Dotlock dovecot-uidlist errors / NFS / High Load
As of late our four node dovecot 1.2.13 cluster has been experiencing a massive number of these dotlock errors: Created dotlock file's timestamp is different than current time (1295480202 vs 1295479784): /mail/user/Maildir/dovecot-uidlist These dotlock errors correspond with very high load averages, and eventually we have to turn off all but one server to stop them from occurring. We first

Fwd: Re: Dotlock dovecot-uidlist errors / NFS / High Load
Stan, Thanks for the reply. In our case we have actually already done most of the work you suggested to no avail. We had rebuilt two new ntp servers that sync against two stratum 1 sources, and all our nfs clients, regardless of using dovecot, sync to those two machines. You bring up the difference between bare metal and hypervisor, and we are running these machines on vmware 4.0. All the

My 1.2.13 build is giving me errors based on the same conf file that was working perfectly for 1.2.12 : Aug 18 03:28:27 IMAP(dclarke): Error: Index file too large: /var/mail/dclarke/dovecot.index Aug 18 03:28:27 IMAP(dclarke): Fatal: block_alloc(2147483648): Out of memory Aug 18 03:28:27 dovecot: Error: child 12560 (imap) returned error 83 (Out of memory - see mail_process_size setting) The

LDA vs LMTP index files
In the docs it states that LDA " ...takes mail from anMTAand delivers it to a user's mailbox, while keeping Dovecot index files up to date." I am wondering if LMTP also interacts with the Dovecot index files and keeps them up to date?

Distributed indexes, maildir_copy_preserve_filename, and Microsoft
Hi, I've just completed a migration from Courier to a Dovecot 1.0.7 (patched RHE 5) which is working great, except for this weirdness of an issue that is impacting a handful of users. My question is that will turning off maildir_copy_preserve_filename help or hurt in a situation where there are multiple servers with their own local INDEX files (uidlist is shared)? The problem is that a

constant mailbox rebuilding with dovecot 1.0.10
I've recently upgraded to 1.0.10 in hopes that this problem would go away but no luck. I've got some users at my company with large inboxes on maildir (say 22,000 messages). Their mailboxes are hosted on nfs and dovecot is configured to do dotlocking. Still I see messages like this continually in the logs (sometimes every hour or so): server dovecot: IMAP(user): dotlock

dovecot + virtio (9p2000.L) = errors
Hi! I hope someone knows more about the issues I've encountered in: Setup: I am running dovecot 2.1.7 on Debian Wheezy in a virtual machine (kvm-style qemu-kvm: host: ubuntu 13.04/1.4.0-dfsg-1expubuntu). The mail storage is a directory on the host machine mounted via virtfs (9p2000.L) on the guest. Furthermore ISPConfig is involved in that setup, but that should not make any significant

NFS lock contention for dovecot-uidlist
We are in the process of migrating away from Courier-IMAP/POP3 and Maildrop. I want to use Dovecot (LDA, IMAP, POP3). During my testing, it has worked great except for dotlocking on the dovecot-uidlist file. The problem: When a delivery is being made with deliver and a mail client has the mailbox open (Thunderbird in this case), neither Thunderbird or deliver can get a dotlock on the

NFS, test52, maildir, freebsd 4.x and OS X (Panther) Server
I've been working on setting up a Dovecot server with a maildir mailboxes stored over NFS. Initially, everything was working great, and then I started seeing this error as previously discussed on the list in my maillog: (mail_index_expunge): assertion failed: (!t->view->external) Timo, in another thread, suggested to remove line 247 in mail-index-transaction.c in the test52

dotlock errors without using dotlock
I have a few clients that have more than one user in the same mailbox. I have my setup using fctrl for mailbox and index locking. My mail is stored on a network file system (gluster) and my indexes are stored on the local drive. I have a few issues: - My users mailboxes have issues where messages will be mixed up (you go to open a message and it gets a different message) - messages will

We don't consider it as "very early beta". We consider it production ready. It is bit more work to set up though. Thanks for mySql For Squat vs Solr, Solr does not reach Squat by very far in terms of results : If I setup Solr, and search (via the search in Roundbube or Evolution) for a keyword or part of the keyword, the results are complete non sense. The diference between "search in full body" and "search in fields" does not even work. Solr with Dovecot seems very early beta

dovecot-shared tries to fchown index+control files but fails
I have some public mailboxes setup in 1.0.0, location = maildir:/egr/mail/shared/org:CONTROL=%h/Maildir/dovecot/public/control/org:INDEX=%h/Maildir/dovecot/public/indexes/org I also have a dovecot-shared file in the maildir folders so messages that are added to the inbox get a decent set of default permissions. However, I think dovecot is also trying to fchown the index files (stored in a user

Missing mailboxes after migration from Maildir -> mdbox
I migrated from existing dovecot Maildir to dbox. After adding separator to the namespace it migrated all Inbox mails, but the other mailboxes like user-created ones and "Junk", "Sent" and so on has not been migrated. Any advice would be helpful, here is my dovconf: https://pastebin.com/rDSeBcLe My migration I made using: 1. Edit dovecot.conf with new mdbox and adding
