outlook 2007 very slow.
Hello I have a user with 2500+ sub folders. Total mailboxes size is around 6G. (mdbox, dovecot 2:2.0.14) Syncing/Receiving appears to be slow, with outlook 2007. He does not want to switch to an alternative, due to various reasons. I did not find any error logs indicate issues. during idle, imap process appears to loop at adding inotify watches to all folders. I found outlook-idle in wiki,

Courier->Dovecot Migration Issue
For testing purposes, on a small set of users, we've run the courier-dovecot-migrate.pl script. We are converting from Courier 0.43 to Dovecot 1.2.9. For the most part, things seem to be ok. However, an iPhone IMAP client user is reporting a problem where some of her messages don't show up. Even stranger is the fact that these same messages do appear when using Outlook 2k7 for

deleted messages not going away in Thunderbird?
Hi folks. This may be a dumb question, but I can't seem to find a clue. I'm running Dovecot v1.2.9 and Thunderbird v3.1.7. If I delete messages using a different IMAP client (I also use an iPhone and occasionally SquirrelMail), I would expect those messages to disappear from Thunderbird the next time I start it or click on "Get Mail". In fact, they do...most of the

windows imap clients
All, This is slightly OT, but I figure a bunch of folks running IMAP servers should have some strong opinions on the topic. While working on a migration to Dovecot, I had the opportunity to move one account to a server running same. This is an in-house billing department box that 3-4 people share. In theory, this should work well - all the billing folks see the same email, save sent mail

Large IMAP operations tend to timeout and cause problems?
Hello all! I have moved from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot some month ago. It is quite stable on everyday use (1.0alpha4) but it has constant problems with large IMAP/SSL operations. We use Maildir format. For example if I select 400 messages, mark them deleted and use "purge command" in Thunderbird (to actually delete them) TB starts to do something and runs and runs and runs....Then I

Datehandling bug?
Hi, I am testing dovecot 1.0.3 alongside my existing courier installation and a number of my emails are heading to the top of the inbox even though they are rather old. Closer inspection shows that my mailclient (Thunderbird on Win32) is showing me some screwey dates for a number of messages. One example is an email which says: Date: 2007-08-21 11:42:43 But in TB I see the date shown as

Special-Use Mailboxes ?
Lots of people must have had this issue before me - users using different devices&software (pc, smartphone, tablet, thunderbird, outlook, webmail) and languages (e.g. English on the PC, German on the iPhone), some folders end of with different names - e.g. "Sent" and "Gesendete Elemente" - meaning the same thing, namely "sent mails". How do you map these to just

Thunderbird IMAP woes
Hi, I'm a new dovecot user. We've actually just migrated our email system from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot (2.0 rc5) cause we were choking on IO and resources, and dovecot's cache and indexing really seems to help, not to mention the awesome amount of options, tweaks, and extra features, so far, I'm lovin' it. However, we're having a few issues with Thunderbird and I

Dovecot/K9/Thunderbird IMAP interaction issues: replicated messages, constant reloading (TB) & missing new messages (K-9)
Version Info: FreeBSD 9.2-RELEASE #0 r266046 AMD64, Dovecot 2.2.13, dovecot-pigeonhole-0.4.3, amavisd-new-2.8.0_2,1, clamav-0.98.4, postfix29-2.9.9_1,1, postfixadmin-2.3.6, spamassassin-3.4.0_12 (zpool data and output of dovecot -n at bottom of post) I suspect these are related problems and further that they are related to some trivial newb error I've made in my configuration, but searching

forward flag metadata
In testing the migration from courier-imap to dovecot I've discovered that the forward flag on messages isn't kept track of in a standard way. courier-imap seems to keep track of forwarded messages in courierimapkeywords/:list dovecot seems to add an 'a' flag to the filename. Unfortunately this 'a' flag information doesn't seem to be given out by dovecot. It's

Timed Out or Disconnect Errors on emails with attachments
Hello all, I've migrated our Maildir system from Courier-IMAP-SSL to Dovecot with SSL and now we're getting "Connection to <server> Timed Out" errors when sending mail with attachments. The mail gets sent, however it doesn't save the mail in the user's "Sent" folder. Our IMAP and SMTP servers are different. So the client sends to the SMTP server

Phantom email message
Got sort of a strange problem on one email account. Everything works fine with Thunderbird/IMAP showing the correct unread message count. But on my DroidX smartphone one of my email accounts always shows one unread message, but I can't bring any unread messages up. It's like there's something there making it think there's a message when there isn't. The email client is K-9

Cannot delete IMAP Mail-Folder in Trash
We have the same problem, with a twist. When Thunderbird deletes a folder, it is still shown by the GUI. Dovecot deleted the folder correctly, and the sunscriptions file is also correct. Some other times, on shared folders, Thunderbird refuses to delete; in this case, apple mail on iphone can delete successfully. This suggests that the problem is in Thunderbird's code. IMAP namespace and Courier migration
Hello, the migration guide from Courier-IMAP to Dovecot says that I should change the folders namespace to "INBOX." if I want a seamless migration. Isn't it that e-mail clients determine that namespace automatically? At least I never needed to enter one in Thunderbird and then it was there. What happens if I copy the database, all the Maildir files, run the migration script to

Thunderbird ignores some folders
Dear readers we are using Dovecot 2.2.7 and all of our users are using Thunderbird as their mail client. Some of them additionally use their iPad/iPhone and a very few an Android Mail-Client. Now one user noticed that two of his mail folders disappeared. He first believed that he accidentally deleted those folders but then he realized that they are still visible from his iPad. I checked this

Problem with Thunderbird and mailbox with SPECIAL-USE flag
Hi ! I have an old Courier IMAP and in front of it, I have put a proxy cache with the great Dovecot. SOGo webmail is connected to the proxy and works great (very very more fast) but I have a problem with Thunderbird : mailbox with ? SPECIAL USE ? aren't automatically detected. To make that works, I must : - in Dovecot : define the namespace inbox : ? prefix = ? and ? separator = . ? - in

Trying to populate dovecot with outlook contacts
Hello, What the subject says. I am trying, that is. OK, here's the story. Users very lazy. Don't want to write down their contact details from scratch. Here's what I thought : migrate (export?) contacts from outlook to mozilla thunderbird. Then find a way to make thunderbird "talk" to dovecot, so that the latter can import the contact details from mozilla tb. Any ideas ?

Users with large (4GB) inboxes crippling dovecot
Hi all, I'm new here and would very much appreciate any help you can give me. We are running a rather outdated mail server that until recently has been running beautifully. Under the pretense of "it is ain't broke, don't fix it" it hasn't been updated so is running Fedora Core 4 and dovecot v0.99.14. What is happening is that as users log in (via thunderbird), they
