Authentication feature I need
OK - here's whay I need to make it work for my Linuxconf compatible authentication system. First - a question: Will this work? I can find docs on "virtualfile. auth virtualfile { mechanisms = plain digest-md5 userdb = passwd-file /etc/vmail/passwd.%d passdb = passwd-file /etc/vmail/shadow.%d user = root } Then - since the dmain name selects the passwd file, if there were a

Feature Request - Authentication Scheme - Linuxconf
This would make my life a lot easier in migrating to Dovecot. And it should be really easy to implement. Here's how linuxconf does it: Password files are placed in the /etc/vmail directory as follows: /etc/vmail/passwd.domain1 /etc/vmail/shadow.domain1 /etc/vmail/passwd.domain2 /etc/vmail/shadow.domain2 The password and shadow files are exactly the same format as the /etc/password and

Converting user mailboxes from maildir to sdbox
Hello, I've got a Postfix/Dovecot server setup. Currently Dovecot is version 2.3.6, and it's using Maildir storage. The mailbox is: mail_home = /home/vmail/mailboxes/%d/%n mail_location = maildir:~/mail:LAYOUT=fs I'm wanting to convert from Maildir to sdbox. I looked at: https://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat I was initially thinking mdbox but that's multiple messages per

Feature request - umask for index files
I'd like a separate feature for setting umask for index and cache files differently from email files. The reason is that I'm putting indexes in a separate location and I need group create rights in directories. Otherwise what happens is that the first user creates the directories, but the second user for the domain that has a different UID gets an error. default_mail_env =

maildir to sdbox offline conversion
Hi all. I've just installed dovecot v2.1 in a multihomed, multiinstance setup, It took me two days to convert the old v1.1 configs, now everything works like charm! But. :) I have several maildir mailboxes, I decided to use the sdbox storage type instead. I ran into difficoulties using the dsync util. My virtual users are in an OpenLDAP DB on a differnet machine, and I do not have access

Migrated from maildir to sdbox: questions
Hi Ranbir, i think youre just using the wrong quota backend. https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Quota You should switch from "quota = maildir...." to another one, like dict. Converting your Public mailbox you could try this ( no guarantee .. just guessing. make backup ! ): doveadm -o mail_location="maildir:/var/spool/mail/thesandhufamily.ca/public" sync sdbox:/target/folder

sdbox-format and sa-learn(spamassassin)
Hello, is it somehow possible to use sa-learn on sdbox-mailboxes? Maybe i can use dsync to "mirror" the mailboxes(only the spam-subfolder) to another location and convert it to mbox or maildir and act then on it with sa-learn? I know the antispam-Plugin, but until now no success, to get it running. So I think about an way, to learn via sa-learn on an file which i can process.

Questions about dbox (sdbox?), mdbox
Hello, So ive spent the last 45 minutes or so searching the list for dbox stuff, but Im not seeing anything real definitive. My question is basically whether the dbox format is ready for production environment, is sdbox or mdbox more stable/ready than the other or does it matter? What are people's experience/review with running this format (and if you reply can you tell me which one

Rebuilding message guid in sdbox
Hello, I am running dovecot 2.2.12 Current mail storage is sdbox and I am trying to compress all emails, which works fine, except for a few old mailboxes. If I run the following dsync command "dsync -u flea -o "mail_plugins=zlib" mirror maildir:~/ndbox" It fails with: dsync(flea): Error: Exporting mailbox INBOX failed: Backend doesn't support GUIDs, sync with header

dsync deleting too many emails (sdbox)
I'm using dsync to synchronize emails on a laptop where wifi connectivity sometimes fails in the middle of a sync. I have a shell script that runs dsync, and here is one line of it including the output of dsync: + dsync -f -m realmail mirror /home/paulproteus/projects/ssh-attach/run ssh rose.makesad.us dsync dsync-local(paulproteus): Error: dbox

Multiple Mail Environments?
The default_mail_env is very powerful, but .... If you have multiple databases wouldn't it make sense to have a separate mail environment for each database? For example: userdb passwd { default_mail_env = mbox:~/mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u } # Linuxconf passwd-like file with specified location userdb passwd-file { args = /etc/vmail/passwd.%d default_mail_env =

Question about indexes and maildir/sdbox/mdbox
Hello We are now running dovecot 2.0.9 with indexes in a ram disk and maildir storage in a test system. We have the following questions: - If there is a power outage / kernel crash, we will lose the content of ramdisk. We have tested that indexes are regenerated when a user logs in via imap, so e-mail access will be "slower" after a power outage / kernel crash, but

Using DSync to convert from maildir to m/sdbox during migration of mail to new server
Ok, now to work out the precise method (config for the target server and dsync command) to use to perform the migration from the old server to the new one, converting to dbox (s or m, depending on how the other thread discussing this turns out). I'll update the old server to 2.2.10 tomorrow morning so they're both at the same version. So, assuming both servers are running 2.2.10,

maildir -> sdbox migration command for _all_ accounts, with split maildir/CONTROL/INDEX locations?
in a recent post, sven made a clear/cogent arg for sdbox vs maildir > While Maildir seems to be an obvious choice, it has some hidden > performance impacts, namely it relies heavily on information encoded in > the filename, which results in a big overhead in meta-operations, > because Dovecot needs to stat() every file in a directory to gather > those information. i've

Dovecot login slow
Can't figure out why the login is slow. I telnet to port 143 on localhost. I type: 0 login user password Takes about 10 seconds and it lets me in. I'm using MYSQL and it's a small indexed database on a fast server so it's not the mysql query that's slowing it down. At least I don't think it is. But - kind of stumped. Just wondering if there's something obvious

Performance of Maildir vs sdbox/mdbox
Hi Guys, I've been desperately trying to find some comparative performance information about the different mailbox formats supported by Dovecot in order to make an assessment on which format is right for our environment. This is a brand new build, with customer mailboxes to be migrated in over the course of 3-4 months. Some details on our new environment: * Approximately 1.6M+

Migrating from Maildir to dbox+SIS... sdbox or mdbox?
Ok... Now that I've got the niggling issues resolved, on to bigger and better things. I want to convert everyone from Maildir to dbox and enable SIS (our users use a lot of large attachments), and after some reading/googling, I think it may be better to use dsync instead of rsync for the actual migration after all since it will do this at the same time as the syncing. If I'm not
