Converting user mailboxes from maildir to sdbox
Hello, I've got a Postfix/Dovecot server setup. Currently Dovecot is version 2.3.6, and it's using Maildir storage. The mailbox is: mail_home = /home/vmail/mailboxes/%d/%n mail_location = maildir:~/mail:LAYOUT=fs I'm wanting to convert from Maildir to sdbox. I looked at: https://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat I was initially thinking mdbox but that's multiple messages per

Question about indexes and maildir/sdbox/mdbox
Hello We are now running dovecot 2.0.9 with indexes in a ram disk and maildir storage in a test system. We have the following questions: - If there is a power outage / kernel crash, we will lose the content of ramdisk. We have tested that indexes are regenerated when a user logs in via imap, so e-mail access will be "slower" after a power outage / kernel crash, but

sdbox filesystem backup potential excludes
When doing a filesystem backup of an moderate sdbox mailstore (300GB) - are there any files that can be safely excluded from the backup?? Like *.log or *.backup?? Or are they all "vital" for recovery? I'm already excluding the sdbox/virtual folders as it looks like they get created and updated as needed. -- Daniel

Hi welcome I want to set some virtual users with sdbox mail_location so I return in password_query and user_query extra field mail which contains sdbox:/var/mail/example.com/user:INDEX=/var/mail_indexes/example.com/user:ALT=/var/mail_altstorage/example.com/user and then when i send email to user at example.com I see all sdbox dirs created but when i login with thunderbird IMAP - Maildir

Syntax to specify sdbox: mail_location path?
I'm implementing sdbox. In conf.d/10-mail.conf, with "maildir:" mail_location = maildir:/my_mailbox_path/%d/%n mail gets stored in /my_mailbox_path/%d/%n/new/ With "sdbox:" mail_location = sdbox:/my_mailbox_path/%d/%n mail gets stored in /my_mailbox_path/%d/%n/mailboxes/INBOX/dbox-Mails. How do I get rid of the '/mailboxes/' and '/dbox-Mails/' path

Questions about dbox (sdbox?), mdbox
Hello, So ive spent the last 45 minutes or so searching the list for dbox stuff, but Im not seeing anything real definitive. My question is basically whether the dbox format is ready for production environment, is sdbox or mdbox more stable/ready than the other or does it matter? What are people's experience/review with running this format (and if you reply can you tell me which one

Converting from Maildir - sdbox
OK - I thought this was going to be easy. Maybe it is. I'm just not that good at reading directions. Trying to use dsync. Getting this error: Mail locations must use the same virtual mailbox hierarchy separator (specify separator for the default namespace) Currently using maildir. The setup is as follows: mail_uid = mail mail_gid = mail mail_location =

rsync sdbox, no new mails?
Hello, I had to restore a mailserver from a backup to replace a system with problems that is still live. I did a 1:1 restore as far as possible from a backup, then rsynced the /var/vmail/ directory, where we have all the mailboxes, in sdbox format. So both directories should be the same. After syncing, I started dovecot. I can see the mails until to the point of the backup, but not the newer

Slightly more intelligent way of handling issues in sdbox?
Hi there, I was doing some testing on sdbox yesterday. Basically I did the following procedure: 1) Create new sdbox; deliver 2 messages into it (u.1, u.2) 2) Create a copy of the index file (no cache file created yet) 3) deliver another message to the mailbox (u.3) 4) copy back index file from stage (2) 5) deliver new mail Then the message delivered in stage 3 ie u.3 gets replaced with the

spamassassin - sa-learn
How do I get this set up? spamassassin -D --lint shows me an error... debug: bayes: no dbs present, cannot tie DB R/O: /root/.spamassassin/bayes_toks and with no db present, it doesn't learn. Is there something simple that I'm missing? Craig

Migrated from maildir to sdbox: questions
Hi Ranbir, i think youre just using the wrong quota backend. https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Quota You should switch from "quota = maildir...." to another one, like dict. Converting your Public mailbox you could try this ( no guarantee .. just guessing. make backup ! ): doveadm -o mail_location="maildir:/var/spool/mail/thesandhufamily.ca/public" sync sdbox:/target/folder

maildir to sdbox offline conversion
Hi all. I've just installed dovecot v2.1 in a multihomed, multiinstance setup, It took me two days to convert the old v1.1 configs, now everything works like charm! But. :) I have several maildir mailboxes, I decided to use the sdbox storage type instead. I ran into difficoulties using the dsync util. My virtual users are in an OpenLDAP DB on a differnet machine, and I do not have access

Deleting messages from filesystem with sdbox mail format
Dear list, I recently had to delete some messages from an sdbox mailbox, for which I used the canonical "doveadm expunge" command without issues. However I got curious and, on a test mailbox, I deleted an unimportant message directly from the filesystem (rm u.650). After removing the file, the webmail continued to show it in the mail list - but no text was retrieved when I selected

Panic on alway_bcc mail with attachment while using sdbox
I do always get a panic on service lmtp, while receiving a mail by postfix through always_bcc, containing an attachment. If the bcc recipient would be supplied by a small delay, I would say that the panic wouldn't occur, but I don't know how to verify this. dovecot is configured with 'mail_attachment_dir' and the public namespace location is sdbox dovecot log: Aug 6 14:18:02

[ceph-users] dovecot + cephfs - sdbox vs mdbox
Thanks Jack. That's good to know. It is definitely something to consider. In a distributed storage scenario we might build a dedicated pool for that and tune the pool as more capacity or performance is needed. Mailbox statistics (sdbox / indexes) (+ wiki2 frontpage notes)
Hi, I used to, with a simple script, loop over the filenames in a Maildir, grab the From from the contents of the file and grab the flags (especially "READ" and "REPLIED") from the filename, but after moving to sdbox these flags are hidden in the index file. Is there anyway to get these out of there programmatically without having to resort to using an imap-client or is that

dovecot + cephfs - sdbox vs mdbox
I'm sending this message to both dovecot and ceph-users ML so please don't mind if something seems too obvious for you. Hi, I have a question for both dovecot and ceph lists and below I'll explain what's going on. Regarding dbox format (https://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox), when using sdbox, a new file is stored for each email message. When using mdbox, multiple

Performance of Maildir vs sdbox/mdbox
Hi Guys, I've been desperately trying to find some comparative performance information about the different mailbox formats supported by Dovecot in order to make an assessment on which format is right for our environment. This is a brand new build, with customer mailboxes to be migrated in over the course of 3-4 months. Some details on our new environment: * Approximately 1.6M+
