Rsync to backup dbox with SIS
We will be deploying a replacement Dovecot server soon, and we are planning to use maildir for the primary storage, but with an archive namespace using mdbox (or perhaps sdbox), and SIS. Our backup servers and (luke)warm spare server need to obtain full copies of the mail store. For the maildirs I know I can simply use rsync (we already use it here). I'm a little wary of using rsync with

maildir vs dbox?
I'm facing some issues on mdbox based backups. Backups are failing with dbox corruption messages. SiS is the greatest advantage though. However backups integrity is very important. If SiS/Deduplication is not a requirement stick to Maildir. mbox vs maildir
I've had clients 'request' nested folders, and it would seem that maildir is designed with that ability while with mbox it is difficult and.or impossible to implement (nested can be achieved; but not nested AND populated in each nest level). My question is, is one format 'better' than the other? It would take a fair bit of time to convert my system to maildir and I would want

maildir vs dbox?
Hello, I've got a Dovecot virtual email setup using maildir as the mailbox format. I am wondering from others who have chosen dbox a comparison between maildir and dbox or those who have migrated from one format to another. I am wondering if changing to dbox would be beneficial? Thanks. Dave.

Questions about dbox (sdbox?), mdbox
Hello, So ive spent the last 45 minutes or so searching the list for dbox stuff, but Im not seeing anything real definitive. My question is basically whether the dbox format is ready for production environment, is sdbox or mdbox more stable/ready than the other or does it matter? What are people's experience/review with running this format (and if you reply can you tell me which one

(Single instance) attachment storage with single-dbox
Just a note to myself and whoever else cares, should be added to wiki once it has its own page about this: With single-dbox messages can be copied with hard linking. This means that there can be multiple files that point to the same attachment file. The attachment is now deleted only once the mail file's link count drops to zero, so this works fine.. ..until someone goes and starts manually

users of dbox format
I am interested in finding out your experiences with using the dbox format (especially mdbox) if you use this format. I am contemplating changing my maildir setup to mdbox but I still need to make a case for it against maildir which has become a de-facto standard and provides sort of a secure basis in case of software changes. Your input will be appreciated. -- Andreas Kasenides Senior IT

Questiosn about dbox
Hello I have read carefully about dbox (/http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox/) and I have some questions: - One of the main advantages (speed wise) of dbox over maildir is that index files are the only storage for message flags and keywords. What happens when we want to recover some messages from backup? With maildir we can rebuild message indexes, but I am not sure about

Any suggestions for backing up an imap server and whould maildir or dbox be better than mbox?
Hi, we run a Red Hat EL 5.2 mailserver with dovecot as the imap server. Mails are stored in mbox format and there are about 134GB of mail. At the moment users copy their importent mail to their workstation accounts wich are backed up nightly. What are your suggestions to back up the mails not copied? Thanks for any comments. BTW: Dose changing the mailbox format from mbox to Maildir or dbox

Dbox and Exim
The Dovecot wiki [1] doesn't list either Exim, Postfix or anything else as supporting the dbox. I did some searching in the Exim archives and have found only one message mentioning dbox, sdbox or mdbox. [2] I think an RFC would go a long way towards getting the format supported. Has Timo, or anyone else, considered submitting an RFC to the IETF? My question was how are we going to use it

performance problems with {s,m}dbox
using rc3 and with the latest pigeonhole, I had problems with dovecot (deliver) keeping up with high volumes of E-mail. I tried sdbox, mdbox, and cyrdir all with similar (failed) result. using the default Maildir I had no problems. I did not try mbox. The problems seemed to happen when there were multiple deliver's running to the same folder I had defined in my sieve rules, either it would

Convert Maildir to Dbox?
Hello, I've got a Dovecot 2.3.x setup. Currently it's running Maildir storage. I'd like to convert that to Dbox specifically Sdbox safely. I'm also looking to at the same time or shortly thereafter encrypt the email storage with mail_crypt. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

Performance of Maildir vs sdbox/mdbox
Hi Guys, I've been desperately trying to find some comparative performance information about the different mailbox formats supported by Dovecot in order to make an assessment on which format is right for our environment. This is a brand new build, with customer mailboxes to be migrated in over the course of 3-4 months. Some details on our new environment: * Approximately 1.6M+

NFS mail storage
The parameters listed for nfs installations (mmap_disable, doctlock_use_excl, mail_nfs_storage, mail_nfs_index) - are they necessary for data integrity, and/or do they compensate for NFS latency and improve performance? My understanding is the indexes are a critical part of a dbox storage, but on the other hand having local indexes is a major performance consideration. Is maildir a
