mdbox: Cannot create subfolder called "dbox-Mails" (2.0beta5)
I am trying out "mdbox" under Dovecot 2.0beta5.
Looking in the "mailboxes" directory under the mdbox storage root
("~/dbox" in my case), I can see that the mail folders are mapped into
filesystem directories.
But Dovecot seems to put all the message list information
("dovecot.index.cache", "dovecot.index.log") for any given mail folder

Shortcomings of Maildir++ layout
Hi,
I am trying to deal with the problem, that under regular mbox format a
path can lead to either a file or a directory, but not both, while under
IMAP, a path is usually both, a message folder containing subfolders.
I found dovecot's approach to this problem, the Maildir++ layout
described under http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MboxChildFolders , and was
astonished to see, what problems come with

mbox folders on-disc layout
I'd like to change the on-disk layout for my mboxes from being
~/mail/foo/bar
to
~/mail/foo.bar
so that I can have folders containing both messages and subfolders,
without having subfolders beginning with . and then having to do all the
other fiddling with locations of index files etc. that goes along with
LAYOUT=maildir++, and also leaving the filesystem layout looking
sensible so

Userdb userdb_mail=, error Mailbox list driver maildir++: maildir_name not supported by this driver
I have this default configuration [0], when use the userdb_mail to point
to the mdbox location, the inbox subfolders show differently in a
firebird client. So I decided to copy the whole default mail_location
into the userdb_mail configuration [2]. But then I get errors [3].
Should I change the namespace configuration here, how? My default
namespaces are inbox and 4archives

Moving from MBOX to Maildir or DBox ?
Hello
Actually we use MBOX format for all our IMAP access but users complain
they cannot create subfolders in imap folders, of course they cannot
because of MBOX format ...
I need gurus advices on changing mailbox format
Maildir of Dbox ?
What would be the safest way to go ?
Note : we extensively use Thunderbird here.
Thanks

With this setting, all folders are empty, I guess understandable,
because the mdbox has its own indexes stored locally with it. Does not
explain though why inbox is empty.

Question about subfolders
Hi,
I've got an old dovecot installation (0.99.10.5) which
is used as the back-end for a squirrelmail web mailer.
Now I need to decide whether to update it to a newer
version of dovecot or to switch to a different software.
One feature that I really need is to be able to place
messages and subfolders in a folder at the same time.
This is with mbox format files (I can't use maildir).

Converting layouts
Hello,
I'm using dovecot 1.2.10 with mbox format (which implies layout=fs)
and I would like to switch to maildir++ layout without changing format
in order to implement subfolders for IMAP users. I understand that I
should move the INDEX location to avoid some namespace conflict (it
would be a good idea anyway: I'll move them on another disc :).
Now I have

Sub-Sub-Subfolders not shown after converting from maildir to mdbox
Hi again,
I just recognized a problem concerning subfolders after converting from
maildir to mdbox. Thunderbird and SeaMonkey don?t show folders that are
subfolders of subfolders.
Have a look at the filesystem:

Best practices to migrate from mbox to Maildir++ and also changing the deliver method
Greetings.
Im about to move from mbox to Maildir++ and change the deliver method
from procmail. I have less than 100 accounts, but there's a lot of mail
(around 16GB)
Apart from the documentation on Dovecot's site, anyone has good
recommendations, and, if you have experience doing this migration any tips?
Thanks for any info, and wishing you all a nice week

Documentation for "altpath" / "altmove" / ?"Alternate storage"
I was thinking about documentation for alternate storage.
We have a few mentions at:
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailboxFormat/dbox
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/Doveadm
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Tools/Doveadm/Altmove
But I was thinking it would be helpful if there could be a page about
alternate storage.
I could write the page, but I currently have so many unknowns that I
think it would be

Dbox lost messages
Hello,
I use dovecot with dbox storage system.
Today I receive 2 mail (I see that in the maillog ) but I don't find in
INBOX using my IMAP client.
I look in the files m.* and I find the message that I receive. But I
cannot find it in any IMAP folder.
I try to run "doveadm force-resync -u user inbox" but nothing change.
I export all email using the command "doveadm

NFS mail storage
The parameters listed for nfs installations (mmap_disable,
doctlock_use_excl, mail_nfs_storage, mail_nfs_index) - are they
necessary for data integrity, and/or do they compensate for NFS latency
and improve performance?
My understanding is the indexes are a critical part of a dbox storage,
but on the other hand having local indexes is a major performance
consideration. Is maildir a

http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.rc3.tar.gz.sig
Does this fix the hangs people have been reporting?
- SSL connections hanged sometimes, especially when saving messages.
- mbox: Mail bodies were saved with CR+LF linefeeds
- Mail forwarding was broken with deliver/Sieve
- dbox fixes. Might actually be usable now.
- Index file handling

Shortcomings of Maildir++ layout

would require yet another workaround.. ;-)
Definitely wrong.
Appending .dir to directories and .folder to folder files keeps files
completely distinct and name collissions are not possible.
