mdbox: Cannot create subfolder called "dbox-Mails" (2.0beta5)
I am trying out "mdbox" under Dovecot 2.0beta5. Looking in the "mailboxes" directory under the mdbox storage root ("~/dbox" in my case), I can see that the mail folders are mapped into filesystem directories. But Dovecot seems to put all the message list information ("dovecot.index.cache", "dovecot.index.log") for any given mail folder into a

Using Amazon S3 storage for Maildir ?
I wonder if anyone has tried using an IMAP server with Amazon S3 as a backend. There would be many factors to consider (speed, etc). However, moreso, I don't know that Maildir(++) would support multiple folders that might be linked into the cloud. For example, higher-I/O local incoming mail is on disk, some folders archived on S3. Could be easily done by simply creating another

dsync and altpath on shared storage.
So... I've done some testing. One method which seemed to work - at least for primitive cases - was to: * Mount the ALT storage on the destination. * Run "doveadm force-resync \*" on the destination. (putting all the mails in ALT storage into the dovecot.map.index) * Run dsync from source to destination. Of course... if there was some way to avoid step 2... /Peter

Syntax to specify sdbox: mail_location path?
I'm implementing sdbox. In conf.d/10-mail.conf, with "maildir:" mail_location = maildir:/my_mailbox_path/%d/%n mail gets stored in /my_mailbox_path/%d/%n/new/ With "sdbox:" mail_location = sdbox:/my_mailbox_path/%d/%n mail gets stored in /my_mailbox_path/%d/%n/mailboxes/INBOX/dbox-Mails. How do I get rid of the '/mailboxes/' and '/dbox-Mails/' path

Suggested location for single-dbox
I've updated http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation regarding a typical mail_location entry for dbox. Previously it said: mail_location = dbox:~/dbox but of course "dbox" is now the old name for "sdbox", so the example should be updated to say "sdbox" and there might/ought also to be an example for "mdbox". Can't get Thunderbird 2 to delete a folder under mdbox (Dovecot 2.0beta5)
Can't get Thunderbird 2 to delete a folder under mdbox (Dovecot 2.0beta5) I have built Dovecot 2.0 and installed it under "/opt/dovecot2". I have done the minimum configurations necesary to get it to work with SSL, systems users but with a secondary password database, and set up mail location as "mdbox:~/dbox". I had to create the directory "dbox" in the

NFS mail storage
The parameters listed for nfs installations (mmap_disable, doctlock_use_excl, mail_nfs_storage, mail_nfs_index) - are they necessary for data integrity, and/or do they compensate for NFS latency and improve performance? My understanding is the indexes are a critical part of a dbox storage, but on the other hand having local indexes is a major performance consideration. Is maildir a

2.1.7 altmove not working
Hi list, I've just set up a 2.1.7 server, and have migrated a couple of accounts across from a 2.0.15 server, keeping the old configs. I have a strange problem on the new box in that altmove just doesn't work. I have my main storage under /home/email, indexes under /home/indexes and ALT under /home/email_archive. When I run the altmove command, the following broken symlink is created

Alternate Storage altmove not working bug
Hello everyone! I would like to report a bug here. We are using dovecot's sdbox with alternate storage here. From time to time my SSD partition gets full and I always find users with lots of e-mails stuck there, and altmove just won't move them. It moves most of the e-mails correctly, but a few was getting stuck everyday. So, I think I have found the problem! When a user moves the

mdbox: Is there any more info on the "cleanup" step? (Dovecot 2.0beta5)
The wiki page which mentions mdbox talks about a "cleanup" step for mdbox: : The space is later freed in "cleanup" step. This may be done : automatically within the session or later in a nightly cronjob when : there's less disk I/O. The cleanup first finds all files that have : refcount=0 mails. Then it goes through each file and copies the : refcount>0 mails to other

LAYOUT=maildir++ under mbox?
Whilst documenting LAYOUT=maildir++ under dbox, that got me thinking: Can we specify :LAYOUT=maildir++ with mbox? If I have it right, this should then remove the problem of not being able to have messages and mail subfolders in the same mail folder. So for example if we had mail location specified as: mail_location = mbox:~/mail:LAYOUT=maildir++ we would have files: ~/mail/inbox - file
