OpenLDAP to FDS 7.1
I am intending to test FDS 7.1 for our LDAP database. We have a custom schema currently set up with OpenLDAP. I am looking for a script ton convert those schema files to the FDS LDIF format. I could have sworn someone posted a link in the previous LDAP thread, but I can't find it now. If anyone has that script, I would appreciate a pointer. Thanks, Bowie

Profile permissions issue? Samba and FDS problem
First some information on the system set up. OS: CentOS 4.3 Samba 3.0.10 FDS 7.1 Samba is acting as a PDC for our network. We have both windows 2000 and windows XP client machines. They are all joined to our domain. Everything "seems" to be fine except that when a user logs into a machine they can not make even simple changes to setting such as folder options (ie. view file extensions).

ldap host attribute is ignored
Dear list members, i have installed a CentOS 7 x86_64 system. I want to let users authenticate over our ldap server. This seems to be working. ldap-username and ldap-passwords are accepted for the users configured in the ldap server. No problem. Now i want to restrict the access to users who have my centos-machine in their ldap host attribute. My problem is, that this host attribute seems to be

Sync passwords unix/smb with FDS backend?
Using simple authentication I have been able to tie FDS to Samba 3.x.24. Knowing that the unix passwd and smb passwd are different, dare I ask how difficult it would be to have them sync? Most of my users are using netatalk w/ posix user info and MD5 password. I would like to swing this over to samba without the worries of two passwords per user. I have seen blips on this but not directly related

Strong security in user's accounts and paswords..
Hi, I have some databases running on CentOS4 with users accessing the shell (bash), so I'd like to strong the security on my server in user's accounts and passwords.. I mean, enforcing strong passwords, min/max age passwords, locking passwords when you fail 3 times, and all this stuff. Is there any package which do this work? Any tutorial? Thanks in advance Regards Israel

Problems with nss_ldap - where to start?
I've been unsuccessfully trying to get nss_ldap to work. I've chased down hundreds of google searches over the last 3 days, and I can't seem to get a centos system to authenticate against ldap. Every daemon on the system is running into the same problem: nss_ldap: could not search LDAP server - Server is unavailable sshd, nscd, httpd, you name it.. slapd is clearly running, telnet

LDAP create home directories
Hey guys, I've setup an LDAP server on our network. I'm using OpenLDAP. It was really easy to use the authconfig-tui to generate the nsswitch.conf and ldap.conf files that would allow user authentication. But when users would log in, the system wasn't creating the home directories. I found one command that would correct that: authconfig --enablemkhomedir --update After that

kickstart and logins.def question
Hello all: Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for all the knowledge this past year. I have a hopefully simple question about kickstart. In the authconfig section I can enable ldap, credential caching, etc.. Using the GUI tool there's an option to create the user home directories on first login. The docs don't show a similar option for authconfig in kickstart. For now I'm

Configuring the system to use LDAP
Hi. I'm trying to setup an OpenLDAP server on MandrakeLinux 8.2 for use with Samba. To accomplish this, I'm using the idealx Samba LDAP howto. It says to use "authconfig" to setup the system to use pam_ldap, nss_ldap and nscd. I don't have Red Hat and thus don't have authconfig. Translated to config files, what does authconfig do? Thanks, Alexander Skwar -- How to

LDAP authentication on a remote server (via ldaps://)
Hello, I have a central repository of users/groups based on OpenLDAP which is working on a remote LAN (servers share users credentials and mount their home directories via NFS). They use non-encrypted ldap restricted to the local network. Now, I have a few servers in our local office and I would like them to authenticate from the remote LDAP server using encryption via ldaps://. (at this stage,
