dovecot vs gnu-mailtools?
I'm about to implement dovecot and got to thinking about gnu/mailtools. What are the advantages of dovecot over gnu/mailtools? Does gnu/mailtools support maildir? Mike

dag repo and perl dependencies naming
Hi I'm trying to install amavisd-new from dag repo on centos3. In the spec file perl dependencies use parenthesis: perl(Digest::MD5) it also uses '-': perl-MailTools The problem is that only the second notation is available: perl-MD5 I know this is an old problem. Is this only centos related? Is there a workaround? Do I have to modify the spec file? I'd like to use yum...

1.1 Quota Question
Hi, I'm not sure if this question has been asked before but some googling hasn't turned up anything really relevant. We are currently running Dovecot 1.1.16 & Postfix; maildir++. When a message arrives for a mailbox which is over quota, it is bounced. Obviously, this isn't very desirable; the primary downside to this is that when junk mail hits a full mailbox it's bounced to

Error: file_dotlock_create failed: Permission denied
Hi, I have a Fedora 14 x86_64 computer. I run dovecot 2.0.12 on it, only to keep a local imap copy of all my email, in maildir format. A couple days ago the hard disk broke, so I bought a new one, and reinstalled Fedora 14 x86_64 with all the updates. Then I copied all the maildirs from a backup to the new drive. But I can't access email now. No matter how I change sticky bits or ownership

BackupPC won't fork after CentOS 5.2 upgrade
For some time now i have been running BackupPC 3.1.0 on CentOS 5.1 x86_64 however after upgrading to CentOS 5.2 BackupPC will not start. "sudo /etc/init.d/backuppc start" return OK but there is no BackupPC processes. This fails also. # sudo -u backuppc /usr/bin/BackupPC -d # echo $? 0 This succeeds, but of course does not fork. # sudo -u backuppc /usr/bin/BackupPC So for some

Today's log - yum entries
Hi list, I have the following entries, below, in today's log file (for yesterday, 10th May). I don't run the automated yum-updated and didn't run a yum update yesterday, and no packages were installed. Obviously the entries are old. I was wondering if anyone could offer an explanation? Thanks, Ned --------------------- yum Begin ------------------------ Packages

Public mailboxes configuration to receive mails
Hello, I would like to know how to use Public mailboxes in my Dovecot environment (dovecot 1.2.beta4) Currently my dovecot server is only used for mailbox user. The Postfix master.cf is configured with the following line: "dovecot unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu user=vmail:vmail argv=/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d ${user}" Both dovecot and postfix use

lda fails in parse_angle_addr if sieve is enabled
Hi, Since updating to 2.3.1 on my FreeBSD mailserver mail delivery using lda is broken if I have sieve enabled. High memory usage
Hi I recently (about 2 weeks ago) moved over my users over to a new version of dovecot (2.0.9) and now the memory usage on the new server seems much higher than it was before. The new server is a CentOS 6 VM with 4 GB of RAM and 4 CPUs and according to top, it's used up all of the RAM and all of the Swap. Here's a sample of the output from top (sorted by allocated memory). top -

Hi Stephan, Shared the message to you in person only via separate mail. With to Return-Path, I've not seen any difference in failures, all messages were consistently failing with the same error. trash plugin not doing it's job
I enabled the trash plugin yesterday, adding "trash" to mail_plugins, and configuring the plugin setting "trash = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-trash.conf.ext". But I still see users with lots of files in INBOX.Trash getting bounced because of quota exceeded: postfix/lmtp[26273]:: C89F490061: to=<XXXXXXXXXXXXX at example.no>, relay=loadbalancers.example.net[192.168.42.15]:24,

Slow on SunOS 4.1.4 (Eudora mailer)
I have a problem with __extremely__ slow performance using the Eudora mailtool. Both the executables and the mailbox are on (different) Samba servers. I have played with all the combinations of placements for executables and mailbox, and what it amounts to is that the slowness happens with the mailbox on a SunOS 4.1.4 Samba server. It doesn't happen on a Solaris based Samba server. As an

mailutil?
dbox format needs at least two tools: 1. Expunging only marks the message having refcount=0. The actual disk space is freed only after calling a tool pointing to the user's dbox dir. 2. Ability to force index resync/rebuild in case it doesn't figure out itself that there's something wrong. I'm starting to think about building a more generic mailutil tool, maybe something similar

lda fails in parse_angle_addr if sieve is enabled
Hi all, Reverted back to 2.2.34 and pigeonhole 0.4.22 and (after reverting config changes) it's working again including Sieve. I was notified of commit https://github.com/stephanbosch/dovecot-core/commit/6553f20bb31b5f0eebb73a0db526f00816b47d71 which I'll try. It's in a different option -f (not -d) but will try. Cheers, Bernard. 2018-04-08 20:10 GMT+02:00 Bernard Spil <brnrd at

LMTP Proxy
Trying to figure out Proxying with LMTP to a few back end storage servers for quota checking before accepting email delivery on the front end nodes. If I connect to the back end server directly via telnet, everything works great. If I use a front-end server to proxy to the back end server, I don't get the same result. Running 2.2.4 on both front and back end servers. Any help would be
