[PATCH] drop root privileges on solaris, request for testing
Hello all, this patch allows master process to drop more root priveleges under Solaris. My limited testing shows that code works, but I'm not sure that defined privilege set is permissive enough for dovecot. Unfortunately I have no root access to our Solaris servers to really test it. So if someone is ready to test this patch please do it :) Best regards. -------------- next part

We couldn't drop root group privileges.
Hello all, This is my first post to this list. I have tried finding this answer online but while it seems that there are some people out there asking, I cant seem to get an answer to it. I have installed Dovecot some many month ago, and just recently I have been getting an error while trying to log into one of my accounts that I used all the time. The error that comes up is pop3: We

perl woes - perl-file-Temp conflict
Hi all, everytime I play with perl I end up falling on my face. Yesterday, new perl modules available from rf (my chosen repo for perl, perl is excluded from my CentOS-Base), however it did not like an already installed perl-File-Temp, so not recalling it was necessary for my mail system I removed it and allowed the updates. Then when I discovered my mail system no longer working (amavisd

FreeBSD - dovecot: We couldn't drop root group privileges
Hi, I installed Dovecot on FreeBSD 4-STABLE machine and have a problem. MTA is postfix delivering to ~/Maildir, runs perfectly. Dovecot is configured to use plaintext auth, config file is at the end of this mail. When trying to get mail via IMAP, I'm getting the following errors: /var/log/dovecot.log > Aug 24 12:00:35 Info: Dovecot starting up > Aug 24 12:00:51 Info: Login: goshik

Can I encrypt already existant unencrypted mail before I start using the mail-crypt plugin?
I would definitely get mail-crypt working on your system before worrying about encrypting existing emails. Iirc dovecot should support both types of files (encrypted, and non-encrypted) concurrently. So BEFORE you try anything, make sure via logs, etc that mail is being written to the fs as an encrypted file and that dovecot is able to decrypt it (i.e. you are able to view that particular

Can I encrypt already existant unencrypted mail before I start using the mail-crypt plugin?
Hi, I am using dovecot 2.3.16, along with postfix and a PostgreSQL database for managing virtual accounts. I'd like to start using the mail-crypt plugin. However, I'm having a bit some difficulty understanding the documentation at https://doc.dovecot.org/configuration_manual/mail_crypt_plugin to reach my goal. I plan to ask questions about those issues by starting new threads in this

how authentication works?
Manao ahoana, Hello, Bonjour, I've read: http://wiki.dovecot.org/Authentication/PasswordSchemes I have a users database with clear plain passwords. Dovecot authenticates users without problems against it. Now, it's time to move to CRYPT scheme. Before that, I would like to know how things happen. He have: - the user, (entering his password in the MUA) - the user's MUA (Thunderbird,

Can't drop root group privileges
Hi all, I need your insight. I've been testing Dovecot on an AIX 5.2 system. Compiled and running fine. We have some users on an AIX 5.1 system, so I'm working on installing it there, so we can do further testing. I'm using Dovecot 1.0 RC15 with OpenSSL 9.0.7e, configured to use port 10143 (imap) and 10993 (imaps). The error I'm seeing in the log is: dovecot: Nov 28

[mail-crypt-plugin] How to decrypt mailbox?
How do I enable the mail-crypt-plugin globally? Do I have to place 'mail_plugins = $mail_plugins mail_crypt' inside ever conf.d file where there is a protocol code block? Like for example the protocol lda codeblock in 15-lda.conf and the protocol imap codeblock in 20-imap.conf I placed 'mail_plugins = $mail_plugins mail_crypt' in 20-lmtp.conf inside the protocol lmtp code block,

Couldn't drop privileges: User is missing UID (see mail_uid setting)
Hi all I hope anyone could help me out with my problem regarding the user_id settings. I am running my mail servers just for fun and I am not a professional mail admin. After I am using postfix and dovecot for my mail servers with a mysql backend for the last 2 years I have tried to set up an installation with a ldap backend. I followed the how-to from the ?Postfix Book? and now I have

Password authentication problems
I'm having a problem getting OpenSSH to correctly authenticate passwords. I'm doing authentication against a shadow file (/etc/shadow) because I don't have PAM installed. I'm using Slackware 7.0, OpenSSH 1.2.3, OpenSSL 0.95a, and glibc with the crypt addon. Here is the funny thing about it though. I edited the file that has the code for authenication (auth-password.c I think,
