CentOS 5 for AlphaServers?
Hi,
I use previous 4.4 version on my two Compaq
AlphaServer
systems. Is there a chance that CentOS 5 will also
become available for Alpha?
Thanks,
Rob.

How to re-introduce a Samba server into a Win/NT domain?
Hello.
I'm hoping that you will provide some help with a Samba problem that
I'm
experiencing.
We have an Alphaserver that has been functioning as the Samba-server
in a Windows/NT Domain for about 5 years now. It was set up by an
engineer
here at Raytheon Missile Systems Company and he left the company about 2
years ago. I've inherited the administration of it.

Q: Segmentation fault at all commands ?
Dear List
Sorry if this is trivial, but I can't find it in the manual, FAQ or mail
list (2002).
I just installed R 1.6.0 (2002-10-01) on Linux R.H. 7.2 (2.4.9-32.5) on an
DIGITAL AlphaServer 800 5/500
The program starts up nicely but exits immediately with a "Segmentation
fault" at the first command. It seems that it doesn't matter what command, I
tried q(), help(), version,

a more specific question about qda
Perhaps, I should complement my previous e-mail question:
I am trying to select variables through a quadratic discriminant analysis.
It seems to me that a robust criterion is the value of the discriminatory
power
(i.e. the ratio of the separation of the class means to within-class
variance)
How can I obtain this ratio from V & R's qda() output ?
Thanks
(I hope this question is relevant)

logistic regression or discriminant analysis ?
Hello,
Does logistic regression really provide better results than lda or qda ?
(my purpose is not classification but highlighting of discriminant
variables).
If this is true, where could I get an R script performing stepwise logistic
regression ?
Thanks

Compiling R, cannot open vars.mk
Hi!
I am trying to compile R-1.8.1 on an alphaserver running Tru64 Unix.
I use the compilers cc,cxx and f77. After the compilation
I try: make check
and get the following message:
Make: Cannot open /share/make/vars.mk. Stop.
Does anyone have any suggestions on why?

tru64 patch: openssh-SNAP-20020826.tar.gz does not contain 'configure', so how to build?
Hi-
Since the tru64 patch was designed for -current, I thought I would try
to build it with a recent snapshot before backporting to 3.4p1.
So I downloaded openssh-SNAP-20020826.tar.gz frpm the portable snapshots, but it
does not contain the 'configure' script. I tried copying the 'configure' from
3.4p1, but that does not create a Makefile from the Makefile.in.
Where are the

nfs, 64 / 32 bit, locking problem
Well, next problem.
Because of samba isn't running on alphaserver 1200 with gentoo linux and
kernel 2.6.9-ac12 i've simply exported my smbroot (on alpha, it is my
fileserver) and have samba running on an intel pentium4 box, also gentoo,
kernel 2.6.0-ac12. Seems to work, eccept some locking problems.

Cannot use SWAT from ROOT account
I've been trying to find someone who can solve this problem. Unfortunately without any luck. Maybe someone on this site can help, here goes. I'm running TRU64 UNIX version 5.0a on my Alphaserver with Samba 2.07. When i try to access SWAT i am unable to login with the ROOT account. If i login with my own privileged account I am successful, but i only receive the basis 4 options for

Performance (and other) problems
Over the last summer we took our home dir / applications servers for the
330 Win95 PCs that they service and attempted to replace them with a
single AlphaServer 8200 (Digital Unix (OSF/1), Samba, 4GB RAM, 2x525Mhz cpus).
The results were *not* good.
In fact, it was terrible. We have since gone back to using the original 3
machines. My suspision is that the clients are making way too many

Tru64 sockets bug?
We are using rsync to maintain a warm mirror of our boot disks. I just
updated to rsync 2.6.0 and noticed that the rsync runs are now getting
errors when copying sockets. The system is running Tru64 5.1A pk 4 on
an AlphaServer 4100. Is this a bug? Is there some way to not copy
sockets or should I find all of them and add them to the exclude file?
rsync was built using a straight ./configure

no, I see now, tru64 pty ownership wrong on entry to setup_sia, may need /usr/lbin/chgpt (WAS Re: Tru64 privsep patch testing)
Hi Toni,
I'm sorry, I haven't had much time to work on this today. When I run sshd
(from the patched snapshot) in a debugger, with a breakpoint early in
setup_sia(), this is what I find after connecting with a client:
(1) There are two sshd processes. One is running as root, and the other
as the user I logged with using the client. The root process is the
one in the debugger,

Tru64 privsep patch testing
OK, I got a chance to try out the Tru64 patch for privsep. I applied the patch
to 3.4p1. Partial success, in that it now works for me for logins to "root".
Logins to ordinary accounts fail after authentication, when trying to set tty
characteristics. See the excerpt from the debug messages below. This is for
Tru64 V4.0F (with enhanced_security turned on, obviously.) I guess it's time

Laptop SCSI capability supported by CentOS 7
I'm looking for a well-supported ExpressCard or PCMCIA/CardBus SCSI card
that can do at least FastSCSI (Narrow, Wide not necessary) that is
supported by CentOS 7. I have an Adaptec SlimSCSI 1460D, but it doesn't
seem to be supported (it's previously supported by the aha152x driver).
Any ideas are welcomed, other than 'just use a desktop.' I am not sure

What do we loose by not having post-auth privsep?
What code is executed between authorization and actual setting of the

Question on trying to build R 2.11.1 on Tru64(aka OSF1) system
Hello,
I am trying to build the R-2.11.1 software for university faculty to use in
research projects on a DEC/Compaq/HP AlphaServer model GS160 16CPU/64GB memory
running Tru64Unix aka OSF1 version 5.1B-5.
Is it known whether it is possible to build the R-2.11.1 software on the
platform I am using?
In my attempts to build the R-2.11.1 software, I first used the native C

defunct in 1.24 on FreeBSD Alphaserver
Hello,
I've recently upgraded Dovecot from 1.1.16 to 1.2.4 on FreeSBD 6.3-
RELEASE running on old Alphaserver 1200.
Some time after this upgrade all user's MUAs showed error that user
password was not accepted. I've noticed many zombies of imap and pop3
processes on my server (all in defunct state). Looks like when
"login_max_processes_count" was reached, Dovecot
