POP3 log in failure after switch to dovecot from Cyrus
I can set up and access a dovecot pop3 account using outlook express fine. I can telnet into it fine. However, GFI FaxMaker is failing to log in. I assisted a client in switching his web site, including email from one server (FreeBSD) which was using Cyrus to a Redhat 4.0 server using dovecot version 0.99.11 Here's the listing of dovecot -n: dovecot -n Usage: dovecot [-F] [-c <config

recent dovecot: assertion failed.
Hi, today I have built dovecot from cvs sources, and upgraded server from beta-7 to this newer version. Then i got problems with opening INBOX using thunderbird 1.5.0.2. The client says "Opening folder...", then, after about half a minute, blinking "connecting to the server" and returning to "Opening folder..." /var/log/maillog gets the messages: --- Jun 22

Minor documentation bug with 0.99.14
The sample dovecot-example.conf contains these lines: > # PEM encoded X.509 SSL/TLS certificate and private key. They're opened before > # dropping root privileges, so keep the key file unreadable by anyone but > # root. Included doc/mkcert.sh can be used to easily generate self-signed > # certificate, just make sure to update the domains in dovecot-openssl.cnf > #ssl_cert_file

REQUEST: Different port(protocol) should be able to use a different certification.
Hello, I want to use a different certificate for a different port(protocol). I searched http://wiki.dovecot.org/ and the mail archives. But such mechanism were not found. Could you implement a such mechanism? Or already implemented it, please teach how to do. I am assuming the following situations. MailAddress: [users]@example.com SMTP Server: smtp.example.com POP3 Server: pop3.example.com

Master User Features I'd like to see
Here's what I'd like. Limited master users, where someone can be a master users for some domains but not others. I think I could do what I want with the right kinds of variable passing that doesn't yet exist. Let me see if I can explain clearly. From the example in the wiki: auth_master_user_separator = * passdb { driver = sql args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql-master.conf.ext

iPhone 1.1.1 problems.
I'm having problems with the iPhone client in the 1.1.1 version of the iPhone software. Things with other clients work fine, and the iPhone worked fine before it was upgraded to 1.1.1. Other phones on 1.1.1 failed. I'm still working on testing against the client with the iPhone 1.0.2 software on it. The problem is that the client simply doesn't connect to dovecot. I can see the

Sometimes Dovecot v1.0.3 does not accept new connections
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, occasionally Dovecot stops to accept new connections. Already existing ones do function properly. Strace'ing dovecot-auth reveals that it is running and is authentificating users, the logfile logs new connections. However, lots of other connects just stall, before the IMAP server responds with the greeting. My user backend is a LDAP

1.1 master auth not expanding static userdb variables
Can dovecot-1.1 deliver work with static userdb? I'm currently running dovecot-1.0.12 and postfix-2.4.6, with virtual users' maildirs all owned by vmail and mail_location = maildir:/var/mail/%Lu. The following definition of the dovecot transport in postfix/master.conf works fine with dovecot-1.0: dovecot unix - n n - 1 pipe flags=DRh

Master user with "user="?
Hello, In our configuration, we are using a "passdb passwd-file", with "user=" directives in each username, and a separate "userdb passwd-file" which contains the target usernames for the "user=" directives. This works fine, for normal logins via POP and IMAP. For customer support testing purposes, we also set up a temporary "master=yes"

Dovecot login slow
Can't figure out why the login is slow. I telnet to port 143 on localhost. I type: 0 login user password Takes about 10 seconds and it lets me in. I'm using MYSQL and it's a small indexed database on a fast server so it's not the mysql query that's slowing it down. At least I don't think it is. But - kind of stumped. Just wondering if there's something obvious

disable_plaintext_auth = no ignored by dovecot in Ubuntu 10.04
Help!! I have been trying to get Dovecot configured to allow plaintext auth with no success. After some testing with the mail system I discovered the >dovecot -a commant to dump the config file values from the program. Gee, changing the value of disable_plaintext_auth had no effect on what the program reported this value to be! To eliminate possible errors caused by other config file

auth failure
well, with some help I've made a fair amount of progress on my box. It's working out much easier than I had anticipated and perhaps my notes will be useful some day. I have two questions... Here is where I am: cling:~# egrep -v "^($|\#)" /etc/dovecot.conf protocols = imap imaps login = imap login_max_processes_count = 16 login = pop3 max_mail_processes = 512
