preventing apache from being a mail relay
I am trying to recall back at least 2 years, and my notes are poor, and my searching appears to be worst... Seems I recall that last when I set up my apache server, the spammers were posting to it so it would send out the spam on port 25. There was some conf that I did to block this, but I did not document it, and I can't find any reference to this. I don't think my memory is that

Frustrated with RoR environment splintering
Why isnt the RoR community focusing on robust and scalable mod_perl style of Apache environment, rather then splintering all over the place with lighthttp, mongrel, WEBrick, SCGI, fcgi, etc??? Its frustrating as someone who is trying to migrate to RoR. Its very unlikely I would ever get a contract to work on any webserver except Apache, so it would seem logicaly to focus all our efforts to

Apache leaks sensitive info in PHP phpinfo() calls
Hi, I wanted to get some opinions on this subject before I submit a PR about it. I don't know if there are any pitfalls with the 'fix' I suggested and though it best to run it past people here before submitting. If there's a better place to post this please let me know (freebsd-ports?). The send-pr output I was about to send explains everything so I'll just paste it here:

Apache 2.2 EOL - what is Red Hat's story for RHEL6?
Hi folks, I have been googling for a few weeks now and not finding anything. Apache 2.2 is EOL at the end of this year. Has Red Hat announced a plan yet on what they are doing in RHEL6? I am assuming they will up-version from 6.9 to 6.10 and as part of that upgrade from Apache 2.2 to Apache 2.4 ? thanks, -Alan -- "You should sit in nature for 20 minutes a day. Apache/PHP Security Help.
I have a personal apache/mail server that is getting hacked and I'm not sure how the person is getting in. What's happening is that every few days, the below script will show up in /tmp as 'dc.txt', owned by apache and then a TON of mail is queued up to a bunch of addresses in @uol.com.br. I initially thought they got in becuase I had an outdated version of 'gallery'

Memory use: WEBrick vs Apache
Hello, >From purely a memory consumption standpoint, is it generally more efficient to run a simple Rails app using WEBrick alongside a separate apache installation or to run Rails under FCGI and use Apache to bridge to the Web? I have looked through lots of docs and old forum posts. Most seem to center on just getting Apache+Rails running, or on speed. I am really not concerned about my

Apache mod_perl cross site scripting vulnerability
Hello, I've failed latest PCI scan because of CVE-2009-0796. Centos 6.7. The Red Hat Security Response Team has rated this issue as having moderate security impact and bug as wontfix. s/key authentication for Apache on FreeBSD?
I'm constructing a Web server which may require restricted areas of the site to be used from public places where a password might be sniffed. The damage that could be done by taking snapshots of the content from one session with a spy program is minimal. What the owner of the server does NOT want, though, is to allow unauthorized parties to gain unfettered access by stealing the password via

Apache, Rails, FastCGI, Ruby, slow
I''m running Windows XP Pro on a not-so-new machine, Pentium 4 2.4GHz with 512 RAM. I''ve got Apache 2 installed and I''m using FastCGI to run Typo in development mode while I design a theme for it. But it''s slow, very slow. Inconsistently slow. If I reload a page, sometimes it happens pretty quickly. Sometimes it takes more than a minute. Sometimes it

newbie question about mongrel
Hi, I am very new to ruby, rails, and mongrel, so this may not make any sense, but i figured i would ask it anyways. I have been given the task of determining if rails is a good transition for our company. While my preliminary tests have been successful (i.e. installing mongrel, deploying a test app, etc), i have to figure out how to run our existing cgi scripts under our new environment.

Apache slows to a grinding halt... Did I screw up or is something wrong?
Hello, So, I just got through a very stressful couple of hours. I''ve been running a rails application for a few months on a dedicated server. The application isn''t really that intensive and has been serving roughly 50k requests / day. It''s been handling really well, really fast, and all is good. The deployment configuration I am using is apache 2.2.3 with

more recent perl version?

A lot of system software uses perl (and python and gcc) so replacing the installed version without testing the effect it might have on the system is not advisable. i.e. things will break. The whole point
