director and doveadm server
Hi, I've been reading doc at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Director to configure my servers. My question is regarding configuration of doveadm server. I have configured both, director and backend servers, as described in that doc, but I don't know how to run doveadm commands in director servers. doveadm is working, because I can run commands, but they are executed in local (director)

Multiple servers and NFS
Hi all, For some reason, I didn't go to http://wiki2.dovecot.org/NFS until now, and I'm starting to get worried ... The plan was to have multple servers (MXes) receiving mail, and delivering via LMTP to multiple backend dovecot servers (with amavis in front of dovecot; LMTP both sides). Then we'd have multiple servers for clients to use IMAP or POP3. This is more or less how the

Doveadm director flush/remove
I've got a couple more issues with the doveadm director interface: 1) If I use "doveadm director remove" to disable a host with active users, the director seems to lose track of users mapped to that host. I guess I would expect it to tear down any active sessions by killing the login proxies, like I'd done 'doveadm direct add HOSTNAME 0 && doveadm director flush

Getting Director Proxy Working
Hi All, I can't get directory proxying of pop3 and imap working.? The director stuff appears to be OK - see below.?? The ldap authentication is working on the backend mail server.? I just get connection refused when I telnet to the proxy on the pop3 and imap ports.? Nothing appears to be running on the pop3 and imap ports despite the lines in the config below.? I am not sure what to do from

How to know if dovecot director is running OK?
I'm using director on dovecot 2.0 At present, I know that two instances are connected, If I stop of one system, then I can watch how to the connections are closed on port 5000. I defined 5000 as director port. I have one user (user1) connected to kvm1 (192.168.13.100) and kvm2 (192.168.13.101) servers v?a telnet telnet kvm1 143 and then login telnet kvm2 143 and then login If try to

Director+NFS Experiences
As someone who is about to begin the process of moving from maildir to mdbox on NFS (and therefore just about to start the 'director-ization' of everything) for ~6.5m mailboxes, I'm curious if anyone can share any experiences with it. The list is surprisingly quiet about this subject, and articles on google are mainly just about setting director up. I've yet to stumble across an

Host ... is being updated before previous update had finished
We just had a bunch of backend boxes go down due to a DDoS in our director cluster. When the DDoS died down, our director ring was a mess. Each box had thousands (and hundreds per second, which is a bit much) of log lines like the following: Apr 03 19:59:29 director: Warning: director(10.1.20.10:9090/left): Host 10.1.17.15 is being updated before previous update had finished (up -> down) -

doveadm director map : User listing returned failure
Hello we are running Dovecot 2.1.9. We have 2 proxies with director and 4 mail servers. We have the user information in a LDAP. I try to do: # doveadm director map doveadm(root): Error: User listing returned failure doveadm(root): Error: user listing failed user mail server ip expire time <unknown>

Do I need to configure director?
Hi, I'm configuring a farm of dovecot proxies redirecting users to backend servers. The decision of which backend server is used for a user is based in its ldap account information. In my previous configuration I was using an inherited director configuration in these proxy servers, but now I was wondering that because the decision is made according to user information, I don't need

Is Dovecot Director stable for production??
Today I will try Dovecot Director for a setup using a Cluster Backend with GFS2 on rhel5, my question is if is Director stable for use in production for large sites, I know is mainly designed for NFS but I believe it will do the job also for a cluster filesystem like GFS2 and should solve the mail persistence problem with a node and locking issues. I plan to add a layer behind a load balancer to

4sec latency when using director
Hi, I've been running dovecot for many years, but now i've hit a strange problem. when retrieving imap there is sometimes in 1 of 4 imap requests a 4sec latency. * notes: - connected directly to the backends this latency disappears - removing a director from the loadbalancer(lvs) so i'm the only connected to the director this latency disappears too I would appreciate some feedback

Timo/Aki/Docecot guys, any hints here? Is this a bug? Design issue? director ignoring director_mail_servers for lmtp connections
Hello, Following Jan-Frode's advise I am trying this configuration: {postfix} ---lmtp---> {director} ---lmtp---> {dovecot} so I have two dovecot instances for director/proxy and lmtp delivery on ports 1024 and 24 respectively. whilst for imap connections I can specify a pool of imap backend servers via 'director_mail_servers' it seems is not possible with lmtp. doveadm director proxy
I'm trying to configure a doveadm service that will proxy trough our directors, following the recipie at: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Director#Doveadm_server So on the backends I have: service doveadm { inet_listener { port = 24245 address = * } } doveadm_proxy_port = 24245 local 192.168.42.0/24 { doveadm_password = suPerSeecret } I assume the "local"

service doveadm - how to debug proxying with director
Hello everyone, I'm on a small dovecot director -> dovecot mailbox setup and I try to get doveadm command proxying to work. Though I don't get the expected output. My directors do not forward the doveadm commands to the expected backend host. Doveadm is working as expected on the backend hosts, the director hosts just dont log anything about the proxying that should happen or

v2.0.rc4 released
http://dovecot.org/releases/2.0/rc/dovecot-2.0.rc4.tar.gz http://dovecot.org/releases/2.0/rc/dovecot-2.0.rc4.tar.gz.sig I'm planning to release rc5 maybe this Friday or weekend, and if there are no serious bugs just change the version number to v2.0.0 a day or two later. Largest changes since rc3: + director: Added director_doveadm_port for accepting doveadm TCP connections. +

Feature Request - Director Balance
Hi, often I run into the situation where a dovecot server goes down for maintenance, and all users get concentrated in the remaining dovecot server (considering I have 2 dovecot servers only). When that dovecot server comes back online, director server will send new users to it, but the dovecot server that was up all the time will still have tons of clients mapped to it. I suggest the director

Director simplification?
An idea I just had: Director basically works by assigning the backend IP address by: ip = vhosts[ md5(username) mod vhosts_count ].ip The rest of director is about what happens when vhosts[] or vhosts_count changes. What about instead doing this on IP address level? ip = ip_pool[ md5(username) mod ip_pool_size ] When a backend dies, you'll reassign the backend's IPs to other
