enourmous amount of disc writes
Hi List,
on my mailserver (exim4, dovecot 1.0.0, postgresql, ubuntu dapper, about
500 users) I record an enourmous amount of disc writes (up to 18000
blocks written each second) in the time where most of users are active.
This IO activity causes wait-states on the disc interface (RAID5) and
finally slows down my mailmachine. Is there a explanation for these disc
writes respectively is there a

dovecot transaction log permissions
So after some problems with NFS and transaction logs getting corrupted.
Im tyring out storing them localy. via..
mail_location: maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=/var/dovecot/indexes/%u
the problem is with a large amount of users.. the indexes dir becomes
huge with this setup. So a change to make this better is...
mail_location: maildir:~/Maildir:INDEX=/var/dovecot/indexes/%d/%n

RC7: its issues or mine?
Background: I'm new to dovecot (although with many years Washington IMAP
behind me). We're considering migrating from Washington IMAP to dovecot
on the main service here, and have just started trying dovecot, using RC7.
Washington, IMAP has the usual(-ish) "/var/spool/mail" shared area for the
INBOX (trad. UNIX "From " format); a user's folders default to being

samba4 kerberized nfs4 with sssd ad client
Depending on the OS.
Below is tested/in production since samba 4.9.x and debian stretch
Currently running buster with samba 4.12.5 with samba and AD-Backends.
All users have UID assigned, and "Domain Users".
This is really easy on any setup with systemd systems with samba and winbind.
I'll show how easy this is for any debian/ubuntu related system but using systemd, maybe you

samba4 kerberized nfs4 with sssd ad client
Hi everyone,
I have a samba DC, let's call it dc1.ad.example.com.
I have two members of the domain - server1.ad.example.com and
server2.ad.example.com.?? They are not running smbd and winbind.
Instead, they are running SSSD with AD backend.
I want to create an NFSv4 export on server1.ad.example.com and mount it
on server2.ad.example.com (say, sec=krb5).
I found some instructions online

I'm experiencing a problem I need some pointers to debug.

dovecot corrupted transaction log
Hi I came across this error which happend immedately after a mail
delivery to the inbox. Should I look for the problem externally to
dovecot (ie. file system, operating system) or within dovecot? I never
saw this error before installing 2.2.1, with 2.2.2 I seemed to get even
more of them so currently back on 2.2.1
Thanks

Opening "Printers" causes incoming packets from different ports
When I open the "Printers and Faxes" folder in Windows to view print
queues my firewall gets a bunch of incoming packets from the server each
from an ever increasing port number. (It is now up to 32840.) These
are going to local ports 139 and 445. (The netbios ports.)
Is this normal behavior? Should I be allowing these access to the system?
Thanks in advance

FFA - Asterisk 1.6.2.6
Hi,
I have a 1.6.2.6 fax installation with a FFA license which seems to be
installed correctly (in fax show stats, I see that I have 1 Digium
G.711 licensed channel, and 1 Digium T.38 licensed channel).
When trying to call my business line with a fax machine, it looks like
it's ringing to my asterisk box, then transfer the call to my extension.
In the logs, I see (after the line where

I have an Asterisk 1.8.2.3 installed (public IP) with a peer (Polycom
IP601) installed behind NAT.
When the peer makes a call, it's working without any problem. But when a
call is coming back, it ends up with a Got SIP response 400 "Bad
Request" back from xx.xx.xx.xx where the xx.xx.xx.xx is the public IP of
the peer. And the call drops to the voicemail (congestion at peer
