Cygwin/rsync/ssh automation problems
Hey all,
I have a problem I can't find a solution for. I am on my third day of testing,
researching, planning, and swearing. :) I need to set up a convenient way to
synchronize a bunch of data over the network for backups. The server is
FreeBSD and the client is Windows. Currently we are using PuTTY, Pageant, and
PSCP to SCP the files over SSH. This has various problems which led me to look

I've recently migrated a server with imapsync with 150Gb of email and 200+ accounts. I found the trick with this was the run imapsync in several runs: Messages older than 1 year; messages older than 6 months; messages

How to skip errors on doveadm backup for migration ?
Hi there,
I have to migrate data out of a very old (debian 4) and buggy cyrus mailserver.
About 40 Users with 200000 Messages each.
Doveadm backup works quite well and gives me most of the mails. About every 100.000 Mail
cannot be exported by cyrus. I do not want to bother about these errors.
Maybe it is filesystem, maybe it is memory leak, or cyrus bug or whatever.
My problem is that doveadm

Keeping data on 2 servers in sync !
I want to build 2 servers (both running samba) to provide file storage to 2
offices (approx 100 miles apart, linked via DSL) but all data writen to 1
server must also be saved to the other server.
Both servers would also allow users to access the data via a VPN thus
allowing 1 office with a failed server to access the other server via the
vpn and still see the data from both offices.
I currently

Complete migration from Cyrus on remote server
Hi All!
I am working on a complete migration from an old solaris machine
running Cyrus IMAP v2.3.14 and wish to migrate all users to a new
ubuntu
vm running Dovecot 2.0.19.
What I have so far is a fully functional dovecot installation with LDAP
/ Dovecot SASL auth using Maildir++.
My plan is to use Perdition IMAP proxy on a third host and migrate
users a few at a time (see attached picture of

Behaviour of two node degraded cluster
Hi all
We are running tests on gluster to see if it is suitable for inclusion
in a live environment.
Software is 3.4.0beta4
Cluster is Proxmax with 2 nodes + quorum disc.
Gluster is set to replicate mode - 2 replicas.
Many tests are very satisfactory but last week we discovered two facts
which make gluster unsuitable for our application.
I assume this is a misunderstanding or misconfiguration

Treat files that were modified locally and remote
Hi - is there a clever way to identify files that have been change on
the local _and_ the remote location? Without such a check it may
happen, that changes are lost without even noticing.
One way to identify such files would be to do a dry-run upsync, then a
dry-run downsync, find files that would have been sync'ed in both dry-
runs, and then prompt the user for some action.

Shared remote repository
Hello,
I have a bit of a problem - I have the feeling the solution is
ridicolously trivial, and yet I can't find it!
I have a remote repository of text files. Until today, I was the only
one changing those files: I would simply change them locally, and
update the remote repository with this command:
cd local_dir
rsync --delete -e ssh -Llavuz . merc@remote_server:remote_directory

Doveadm Backup (other) issues
Hello,
I also have issues using Dovecot Backup.
I am trying to Backup (or possibly Sync - one way) a single user IMAP
account from a remote server, unknown type, to my own server.
For that purpose, I defined the following parameters :
imapc_host = <host name>
imapc_user = <user name>
imapc_password = <password>
imapc_features = rfc822.size
(<user name> has format:

doveadm sync backup from old to new server
So I've done quite a lot of searching on the list and on the web - and perhaps my google-fu is really bad - but I can't find any real recipes on how to sync mail from the old server to the new.
As an FYI - the old server is a CPanel/WHM setup on a VPS.
The new is mailcow - which uses docker.
However, I don't think either of these platforms is what's causing the issue - but

disconnected synchronization (mostly unidirectional)
Hi List,
please consider the following scenario:
(and pleast forgive if I have not googled enough but I was unsuccessful to
find an app what exactly does what I want)
machine A (office) is, where most file changes/downloads etc happen.
and it has limited internet access (only proxy possible)
Machine B (home) has low bandwidth, is NATed etc.
So I would like to use an USB

CENTOS and GlusterFS
Hi list,
I'm planning to setup a two-node "cluster" with file replication and samba.
I've used drbd in the past with success, but now there isn't drbd on
the official repo but only from elrepo. I want follow centos Line and
than switch to GlusterFS.
Said that, I'm new to GlusterFS.
I have two hosts with a 2tb disk space for replica.
I've ridden that glusterfs is

Local is machine A, Rsync client, remote is machine B, Rsync server.
In our application, A and B are load balance and have same import.
file changes may happend in machin A or machine B.

dovecot and unison
I am successfully using dovecot purely as a personal local mail store on
my desktop. (There is only one account, and it's only ever accessed by
local mail clients on the machine. The point is to have a common store I
can use with any client; plus, I prefer dovecot's Mailbox storage to
Thunderbird's mboxes.)
Now I'd like if possible, to replicate this setup on my laptop and
