acls not copied when creating subfolder of private INBOX
Using brand new dovecot 2.1.5 I still have a problem with the inheritance of acls.
Setting:
- maildir with private INBOX and public folders.
- users maildir directory (/home/mail/user/ahelmcke) contains dovecot-acl file
- public folders root directory (/home/mail/Fax) contains dovecot-acl file
When creating a subfolder of the public folder the dovecot-acl files gets copied to the subfolders

2.0.12 (fa2e92526716): Deleting mails and folders from public namespaces
Hello,
we basically run a dovecot imap setup where users' mailboxes are in
private namespaces (as usual), but there is a public namespace with
several thousand deeply nested folders also.
The client we use is Thunderbird 3. The public namespace shows up in
each user's account at the top level (i.e. same level as Inbox, Sent and
so on), and users can make new subfolders in the public

I run dovecot (2.1.7) on debian wheezy in conjuniction with postfix,
samba4 (as ldap backend) and sogo. I configured folder sharing but have
an few issues.
With my current config users can share the inbox and other folders. If
the acl allows creatings subfolders this does work for all folders
beside inbox.
What i want to archiev is the following:

question dovecot Inheritance global acl vs userfolder acl
Hi Timo
my tests resulted in
inheritance is given if a userfolder has set some acl to its new created
subfolder , which is nice
if some userfolder has its acl from global acl
there is no inheritance to its new created subfolders,
that subfolders will always created with full owner rights
i am not really sure if its a good idea
to have inheritance from global acl and
if its hackabel what is your

Public namespaces with global ACLs 1.2+
Hi,
I'm having trouble to get ACLs working in a more restrictive way with
namespaces. I would like to grant certain users the ability to create
new mailboxes in a public namespace e.g. "Public/Newsletters" etc.
It works when I add the users to a ".DEFAULT" ACL file like this:
user=username lrwk
Anyway I'd like to limit their permissions on the Namespace

problem with a public folder
Hello,
Thanks, yes the global-acls file is the one I'm refering to and I
created it before all this started.
Yes, the users can both login properly and can access there own inboxes.
Thanks.
Dave.

Public Namespace + ACLs + virtual users
g'day!
I'd just like to share my experience with public namespace and ACLs.
I know this has been discussed a number of times in the past, but there
were no definite answers.
dovecot version i'm using: 1.0.13
Got a public namespace setup in dovecot.conf as follows:
namespace public {
separator = .
prefix = Public_Folders.
location = maildir:/home/vmail/domains/%

IMAP ACLs not working
Hi,
I've some problems to get folder ACLs working with Dovecot. I've
defined some folders (like drafts, spam etc.) for every user and
created a dovecot-acl file in every folder so that users can not
delete or rename these folders but this does not work as expected.

(1.2.11): Confused about shared/public folders
hi,
i red several hours a lot of documentation (wiki, Blogs, lists ...) how
to get public folders. Under cyrus it is very easy. Create a mbox on the
top with cyradm and some acls. Nothing more ...
All i want is:
public/info
public/group/internal
public/foo
public/foo/bla
on info, everybody can read
on group/internal - only group has full access to internal

Public Namespace & ACL & Virtual Users
Background:
I am wanting to create shared folders (public namespace) with access
control lists on the sub directories.
Our implementation of dovecot (v1.0b7) uses many virtual users and
domains and 1 actual user (vmail), all using maildir. So far I have
successfully created the public namespace (Public_Folders) which every
user can access but I'm having difficulty restricting access using

Public Folders for spam/nospam -> don't get it

Dovecot: 2.0.5
I want to use public folders (maildir), for my spam mails to feed
spamassassin, but I don't get it working. My Evolution 2.28.3 (nothing

Hi,
I'd like to subscribe folder with doveadm:
doveadm mailbox subscribe -u rago public.Conferences
This command doesn't work, while it works with an ordinary folder.
However it's possible to subscribe to the folder with an imap connection:

Public (Shared Folders) ACL Questions
I'm trying to set up a public namespace so that a set of IMAP folders
are available to all staff - similar to MS Exchange Public Folders.
I've managed to set up the namespace correctly but I'm having trouble
with the ACLs. The global ACL file is the only method I can get to work.
All I want to do is to allow 1 user admin privileges to create & delete
anything but all other users

Filing to public folders
Hi all,
I'm currently playing with a setup which might replace my current cyrus imapd one
with dovecot. Currently I'm stuck with trying to file messages that got to the user
"lists" to the public namespace' System folder (public/System) with sieve.
Dovecot claims "Permission denied", and I tried several debugging techniques to
get the cause - without a result

ACLs, shared, public, virtual mailboxes not working
Since you have obfuscated your data it is hard to tell what's going on, especially as in your previous log you have 'user=user' and now you have user1 and user2.
You can try
doveadm rights -u victim folder
to see what sort of rights dovecot thinks it's seeing.
