Is Dovecot able to use PostgreSQL to store mailboxes?
Subject says it all. (I'm almost positive this is a FAQ, or that the information is online _somewhere_, but I just spent 20 minutes without finding it ... sorry if I didn't search hard enough) -- Bill Moran Potential Technologies http://www.potentialtech.com

Subscription File
I had a use lose 20 folders on their mail account. I was able to pull them back from a restore and dumped them all back on the server in her Maildir. The problem is she doesn't see them on her Thunderbird or Outlook client. I checked to make sure I put them back into the correct directory and I did as well as verify permissions aren't weird. I then noticed a file called

Additional passdb result status
Dear Dovecot-Team, I am implementing a plugin (for the pop3/imap process) that requires some data to provided from the authentication phase (a derivative of the password). For that, I have now implemented a passdb plugin that generates this data and I would like to "pass" this data down to the mail process (pop3/imap) via extra_fields in the reply of the authentication. The general idea

dbmail benchmarking
I thought I'd try benchmarking with dbmail (v2.2.4) to see how much slower a SQL backend could actually be. Skip to bottom for the conclusions. Originally I ran the tests with the databases being in XFS filesystem. MySQL's performance was horrible. It went 3-7x faster with ext3. MySQL 5.0.30 backend (innodb): ./imaptest clients=1 - append=100 seed=1 secs=30 msgs=1000000 logout=0

First Time Using Rsync
I did a search on the web and there are so many different methods / variations of using this powerful tool. My question for you guys is very simple and I would like to hear from people on the list who use this daily what the best command would be to transfer all data from one server (srv_old) to my newly build server (srv_new)? I have one directory "/home" which contains everyone's

anyone using DBMail?
I am currently using Cyrus IMAPd, and been using it for a long time, the main reason being that I want an IMAP server with nice server-side filtering, which Cyrus provides via Sieve. Given that Sieve is integrated with Squirrelmail, all is good. Or is it? Cyrus IMAPd is powerful, but it's a complete mess to upgrade, either when upgrading the software per se, or when upgrading the whole

Get an extra_field in login process
Hi. I have an auth plugin where an extra_field is filled. Somewhere, in login process I need to log the authentication command and the extra_field, I was trying to do it in login-common/client-common.c, adding a new variable to login_log_format_elements and trying to get the fileld from environment, but, I could not find any way to do it, the getenv returns null everytime. Anyone can suggest

Proxy with MasterUser + Authentication issues
Per Timo's direction, I decided to give the MasterUser a try in connecting my proxy to my destination server. This might allow for the use of 'secure password' for my clients that like to check that box by default. A couple of problems I'm running into running RC15: #1: My Proxy's SQL password_query line: password_query = SELECT a.clearpasswd AS password, v.storeIP AS host,

Hierarchy separator recommendation?
Dear dovecot list, I'm using Maildir as mailbox format. Is there any recommendation for the namespace hierarchy separator? Currently I didn't set any. So it is the default of dot '.' I'm switiching from a rather unknown IMAP Server called DBMail (http://www.dbmail.org/) Planning to synchronize the mailboxes via imapsync (https://github.com/imapsync/imapsync) Is there

setup of dovecot as proxy to dbmail
Can anyone point me in the direction of a detailed how-to for setting up a postfix and dovecot (proxy) node with dbmail? In particular I'm looking for a how-to which shows dovecot authenticating against the dbmail database directly. The only example I've found is this one which requires a duplication of the user database.

TLS Authentication Confusion
I asked a user today to make sure his incoming and outgoing email was using TLS. He told me it wasn't possible because my Dovecot / Postfix daemons were only listening on TCP 25 & 143 according to a port scan he did. He told me the only way I could enable encrypted secure sessions between the client & server is to enable port 993 (IMAPs). I told him that TLS is supported on my mail

Rfc: Limit the size of an email IN the mailbox
Currently we're in the process of migrating Dovecot mailboxes to Exchange. This is all working very well, except for the occasional user, who used his/her Drafts folder as a file storage: They started writing an email containing lots of image attachments (and thus exceeding our maximum_message_size by far). So the mail never gets sent, but stays in the Drafts folder. Once I try moving that

Migration dbmail -> dovecot.
Hi i want to migrate from dbmail to dovecot, the main problem is passwords. dbmail uses "md5-hash" wich crypt "111" to "$1$tZNR7pR4$jMuuKWm7ljRyL8iEMfjep.". Tried all dovecot pass schemes thru `dovecotpw` and no one matches. The main question is how to migrate dbmail -> dovecot.

Help with IMAP IDLE
Well, I've been doing some research, and it seems that msoutlook 2016 and 2019 doesn't quite have imap idle support. The odd part, is that when i had DBMail, it was IDLE'ing (i swear), Would dbmail send something different that make it work? It was an old version of dbmail, 2.3.7 i believe, from about 2012 or so. And no, it wasn't the outlook options "send/receive", i

Bad creation timestamp of migrated mails (maildir format)?
Hello everybody, ive just switched to dovecot imap because dbmail i used before is not developed any further and sql storage is difficult to backup. Ive done that, by setting up dovecot with maildir format and copy mails from old dbmail to new dovecot imap server with my mail client (thunderbird). Unfortunately migrating to dovecot brought me some problems with my Android K9 Mail client: Sync

question on autch cache parameters
Hi list, I have a question on auth caching in 2.2.18. I am using acl_groups for a master user, appended in a static userdb file # snip ############################### master at uma:{SHA}XXXX=::::::userdb_acl_groups=umareadmaster allow_nets=127.0.0.1 # snap ############################### and use this group in a global ACL file. I discovered this only works on first NOT-cached login

What's faster for getting mails into Rails: Dbmail & direct MySQL or net/pop with maildir
Hi, it's my first message in this list, so please excuse any mistakes! I have a quite specific problem and nobody in the Ruby on Rails lists could help me, because it is actually more a question for mail- experts. So I hope you can help me. I'm planning to set up a mailserver using dovecot. Users of my Rails App can forward their emails (john at doe.com) to an personal address
