Help with blocking internet traffic at certain times
Hello all:
I''ve been using Shorewall for quite a while at my office and it''s been
great! Thanks for the work!
I''ve just set up a firewall at home to keep my teenagers under control
(shorewall, squid and dansguardian). I''ve also set up a cron job that
switches my shorewall rules between a day and a night configuration. The
night configuration blocks

cleanup after a small data loss on incorrect shutdown.
Hello.
I am continuing my tests of BtrFS under a practical workload. Recently
an incorrect poweroff (or maybe a small bug in BtrFS) caused a small
data loss. The actual damage was non-existent.
I used old branch, so maybe the relevant code is already improved.
1. Why btrfsck says "bad block" on that partition? What does it mean?
My fist reaction was to use badblocks. It found no

Crazy "interrupt storm detected" on atapic0
Hi all,
I have had this problem since day 1 on my new server.
It has run since November 15th 2008, and serve approx. 10 GB worth of web
traffic per month for the main site and then some 40 domains with mail and
small web pages. (hence - it's NOT that busy yet)
I started with 7.1-RELEASE-pX since I didn't have problems straight off -
but it didn't last long.
After a few days of

Results of 13 month study on reducing telemarketing calls
Hello--
I've been playing with the privacy options on my home/home-office system
since August last year, and have some results, gleaned from my CDR
records, which over the last 13 months, number a total of 8672, which
includes incoming, as well as outgoing calls.
Before I start spitting out numbers, let me note that with the current
setup, I haven't had to tell a single telemarketer

error loading operating system
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem. When installing from floppy, it appears that everything installs correctly to hda1. I can see all the files that get installed on hda1 when mounting it. However, after I change the boot options to boot from hard disk I get the above error. I have never had this problem before, it usually installs very fast and painless. The only difference this

Browsing across sub-nets with Dial-Up Networking
Forgive me if this is a FAQ, but I just can't seem to get it to work...
I have an internal network with an NT Server running as a PDC and a WINS Server. I have a Linux box serving as a dial-in ISP provider and firewall to the internet. I have Win-95, Win-98, and Win-NT Workstation users dialing in to the Linux box. We want the remote users to be able to browse the in-house network. The

Symlink Issue
I've recently upgraded a server and am having an issue with symlinks that used to work but are now broken. The links are on one of the filesystems shared by Samba, but point to directories on an NFS-mounted volume. The permissions and export on the NFS volume are such that both root and normal users on this Samba server can access the contents correctly. However, when I try to follow the

DNAT not working after changing BIND to use views
Hello all:
I''ve got a confusing issue. I had a working shorewall configuration
(based on the two interface model) using DNAT for redirection to my HTTP
server. The HTTP server is on my inside network (I know - bad juju, but
one thing at a time). I changed my configuration this morning to use
views in my BIND (named) configuration. Everyone outside the firewall
is able to get in

(force) create mode not instantly applied
Hi,
if I connect from a winxp machine to my samba share and create a new
file, it does not get the permissions specified by "create mask" and
"force create mode" at first. Only after I modify the permissions on the
client, the file finally gets the right permissions on the server.
Thereby it does not matter what I change on the client, even if I remove
all access rights.

Problems with Dahdi 2.3.0.1 trying to load OSLEC
Hello list,
I'm facing a little issue with dahdi attempting to load the OSLEC echo
canceller into my current kernel.
After compiling dahdi 2.3.0.1 with OSLEC support, I get the following
error when set 'oslec' as the echocanceller:
DAHDI_ATTACH_ECHOCAN failed on channel 1: Invalid argument (22)
- Similar errors are *NOT* present using other echo canncelers.
- I tried adding the

Kernel Panic on Masq Enable with Shorewall 4.4.8 & 2.6.27.45-0.1-default #1 SMP
All,
I have been using Shorewall successfully for years on many different machines and configurations. However, I just built a new box and wanted to setup shorewall on it. I''m running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 and Shorewall 4.4.8 (latest version as of this e-mail) using the RPM download. I am able to install Shorewall just fine and I''m able to setup everything except

assumes that the return type of those libcalls is i32.
Why not allow Targets to provide the correct return type?

BTRFS warnings on the tons-of-symlinks operations
These warnings occur in the process of creating lots of symlinks before
system hangs (well, this time I was luckier and system didn''t hang..)
I checked: when system hanged, it was always the same offset in the same
function. I failed to get more good traces. I send the best I got.
After lots of attempts I passed the usual hanging step.. With lots of
warnings I already mentioned.
