Tyan S2891 and CentOS
I am trying to install CentOS to a server that has a Tyan S2891
motherboard, 2 Opteron 875 Dual Cores and 2GB of RAM.
I have been able trying to install over a network but the tg3 driver will
not load. I then installed from a DVD and on rebooting after the
installation I cannot get the network drivers to load and the RAID
controller in the PCI slot is not available.
It seems that when I do an

Sensors for Supermicro H8QCE
CentOS Guru's,
I am trying to get supermicro's superodoctorII to spit out some numbers
for CPU temps but I am failing.
It appears I need a module i2c-piix4 but it is not available in the kernel.
Trusty old lm_sensors won't seem to work with this darn board. Any hints
would be mucho appreciated.

Looking for a good disk exerciser
I recently added a Seagate 400Gb SATA drive to my system, and it has been
behaving strangely since I put it in. for one thing, the BIOS S.M.A.R.T.
came up with a warning the last time I booted with it enabled, saying that I
should backup my data and replace the disk (!).
I still have not made any irreversible data transfers to this drive, and I
have some time yet to take it back, but I'd

[PATCH] p2v: un-duplicate common dependencies
Move all the dependencies with the same name in all the distributions to
a single list at the end.
There should be no change to the package list used to build the p2v ISO.

When are Logwatch errors really errors
Hi All,
I don't know enough about when errors are *really* errors. So I google a lot to read and learn.
I have a few things in my Logwatch that I want to make sure I understand

Functions within functions - environments
Dear list,
I have a problem with nested functions and I don't manage to get it
solved. I know I should be looking in environments, and I have tried a
lot, but it keeps on erroring.
An easy version of the problem is as follows:
innerfunction<-function()
{
print(paste(a, " from inner function"))
print(paste(b, " from inner function"))
setwd(wd)

The current solution is 8 years old and is reaching its end of life.
The reason we are also looking into gluster is that we like that it uses
standard components

squelch-1.0beta5 ready
I've made squelch-1.0beta5 and uploaded it - you can find
it linked from http://www.geoid.clara.net/rik/squelch.html
This version has a config dialog. It works out which output
drivers libao has available and gives you a choice. You can
also tell it where your 'audio dir' is - though that works
a bit strangely at the moment - when you change it, all the
files you have in your playlist

Ext3 and 3ware RAID5
I run a decent amount of 3ware hardware, all under centos-4. There seems
to be some sort of fundamental disagreement between ext3 and 3ware's
hardware RAID5 mode that trashes write performance. As a representative
example, one current setup is 2 9550SX-12 boards in hardware RAID5 mode
(256KB stripe size) with a software RAID0 stripe on top (also 256KB
chunks). bonnie++ results look

Simple password checker
I'm attempting to get a Linux box to authenticate users from NT.
I think it's possible by writing a PAM module (not hard) and using
part of Samba's source to verify the password on the NT server.
I'm getting pretty bogged down trying to work out how to do this -
it seems like it should be simple - just take the password and username
and ask the NT server if it's correct.
