Curious warning in R for OS X w/Xwindows
I recently reformatted my TiBook and reinstalled everything from the system up. After installing Apple's version of XWindows and the XWindows version of R 1.7.0, I ran the two and got a strange warning: ----- R : Copyright 2003, The R Development Core Team Version 1.7.0 Patched (2003-05-14) R is free software and comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY. Very valid question but you should direct your question at the EPEL maintainer

Problem with winecfg on Red Hat Linux
A colleague insalled Wine for me on a 32-bit Red Hat Linux server yesterday. I am not trying to install an application called LIMDEP under Wine. The documentation says to start a script called winecfg. When I invoke that script, all I get is a gray box on my screen with a few tabs. No text appears on the screen. If I click on some of the tabs, there are drop-down menus, which also have no text.

determining what depends on a rpm
yum remove lightdm That command tells me that it's also going to remove lightdm-gobject and lightdm-gtk. rpm -q --whatrequires lightdm no package requires lightdm So obviously we can't take the word of the --whatrequires option from the rpm command since yum remove tells me that there are two. That being the case, using yum remove to determine the actual dependency chain is not all

X11 forwarding
I need to enable forward the xWindows through my SSH session, but I'm having trouble. I'm using Putty and I've configured it to allow enable x11 forwarding through the ssh tunnel. I've also edited the /etc/ssh/sshd_config and set X11Forwarding yes. After doing this, it's not working. I'm sure there's quite a bit not doing. Could anybody offer any guidance? This is

Mine strangest asterisk problem ever ....
Hi there, I'm going mad at this: Asterisk with one HFC isdn card, using the zaptel driver "bristuff" All works ok, but voice coming in/out of the isdn card is out of sync, squelky and disrupted, UNTIL I PUT SOME LOAD TO THE PC, let say launching xwindows. I noticed this: Strong HDD activity = voice is good HDD doing nothing = voice is not good I suppose this could be an

PDF and PS output
I'm using R 2.0 on Redhat Linux 9. When I try to produce PDF or PS output, the files are corrupted -- they won't open in Acroread, xpdf, ggv, and on attempting to convert to PNG, I get message "This file has corrupted %%EOF marker." Perhaps I am just doing something wrong. I did: > pdf() > hist(unlist(foo.bar)) I have no trouble viewing the output in Xwindows. Thanks,

Off topic
Hello, I''m going to be helping a friend setup Shorewall in place of his Cisco router on his home network. Shorewall will be acting as the router/firewall gateway for internet access for his home LAN. His connection to the ISP is via PPPOE. Nothing unfamiliar here to me. It will be a standard 2 interface setup. My curiosity was peaked when he said that he is going to be installing

un-install R 1.6 built from source
I have installed R 1.6 for Linux from source, but unfortunately, I didn't check if the Xwindow headers were available, so I have installed it without Xwindows capabilities. Thus, I want to uninstall it and install it again properly with the required features, but I don't know how to uninstall R when built from source. I would appreciate any help on this. Thanks very much in advance!

How to get R to compile with PNG support
Dear R devel list, Good morning; I'm with the Sage (http://www.sagemath.org) project. (Some of you might have seen my talk on this at last summer's useR conference). We have some rudimentary support for using R graphics in various cases, which has proved useful to many of our users who want to go back and forth between R and other capabilities within Sage. Unfortunately, the way we

necessary/unused rpm packages
Is there a way to identify if an rpm package is unused, or how much it is used? I would like to reduce my load time by removing unused packages in my kickstart, but do not want to cause problems for users on active systems by guessing which ones are not necessary (I load everything with kickstart now). If I could find the packages are not used I could start by excluding them from a load and be

sendmail and cups gets installed although not chosen in kickstart file
I setup a kickstart file that contains only @core and several packages explicitely listed. postfix is listed, sendmail is not. And there's no package where I would think it needs cups. Nevertheless, after the install I now have postfix *and* sendmail on the machine and sendmail even being enabled. And cups is installed. How can I find out what forced them (and probably many other unwanted

ocfs2console is slow
Ever since we have installed OCFS2, we have had extremely slow performance in the ocfs2console. It can take us over 30 minutes to do the simplest tasks. We do not have this type of performance with other xwindows applications on our server. Does anyone have any performance improvement suggestions for the ocfs2console? Thanks, Reid

Location of xgraphics routines
Hi I have an application that uses the Xwindows graphics library. Things like XOpenDisplay XDrawLine XCreateSimpleWindow XDrawString and many more Under all the CENTOS 4.X systems these were automatically loaded. I dont have these loaded under my CENTOS 5 system. I get a heap of undefined references when I compile the code. Could someone tell me, point me, where these routines now reside on
