Odd issue with 7.7.1908 updated with qemu-kvm-ev
So, I have a client that has an internal use application that needs an ancient version of libc5.? That's not a typo; libc5.? Before the server that ran it died about a year and a half ago (said server was an AMD K6-2/450 with a 6GB Western Digital Caviar drive that had been spinning nearly continuously for almost 20 years!) it was running on Red Hat Linux 5.2.? The last version of CentOS

Need a bit of 'archeocomputing' help on CentOS 7.
I have an application with is binary-only, does its job well, and is only available for either libc5 (!) or early early glibc2.0 (!!). It has been running on a Red Hat Linux 5.2 (NOT RHEL; RHL) server for a really long time, and it honestly does its job and it's not easily replaced by an open-source solution at the moment. So, I need to do one of the following things: 1.) Run Red Hat

Hi, all. I'm trying to compile OpenSSH-3.0.2p1 on a Linux libc5 system, and it fails when compiling packet.c with the following: gcc -g -O2 -Wall -Wpointer-arith -Wno-uninitialized -I. -I. -DETCDIR=\"/etc/ssh\" -D_PATH_SSH_PROGRAM=\"/usr/bin/ssh\" -D_PATH_SSH_ASKPASS_DEFAULT=\"/usr/libexec/ssh-askpass\" -D_PATH_SFTP_SERVER=\"/usr/libexec/sftp-server\"

help for tftp-hpa with libc5
I want to compile tftp-hpa on libc5 because we have many systems still using this library. There were some constants missing that i copied from glibc-2.1 headers, and now I'm left with this and I don't know what to do since all I can do is copy/paste, not touch real code :-) === gcc -O2 -m486 -fno-strength-reduce -D_XPG4_2 -D_XOPEN_SOURCE -D__EXTENSIONS__ -D_BSD_SOURCE -D_ISO9X_SOURCE

static linking of /usr/sbin/tc?
Hello, I am trying to revive an old linux server installation, which still has libc5. Sadly, most current software does not compile anymore on this system, including the tc utility. As with other tools (net-tools, coreutils, procps etc.) I tried to compile and statically link (LDFLAGS=-static) on a more recent linux machine and copy the static binaries over to the old machine. But no luck

Slackware 4.0: wtmp and pty.c problems
Hello all, I use a Slackware 4.0 based system (libc5 based, with glibc2.07 runtime support). I've configured OpenSSH using: ./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/ssh --without-pam --with-default-path=/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbi n:/sbin NOTE: yes, --with-default-path DOES work, since pre24 (pre 22 did not) When I try to compile OpenSSH-1.2.1pre25 (or pre24 or pre22), I

IceCast 1.3.11: Segmentation Violation in Linux
Hello all, When I try to run IceCast 1.3.11, it starts up okay, but crashes with Segmentation Violation as soon as a client tries to connect to it. I am suspecting that there is a race condition, because when I try to strace icecast, it works fine. I am a novice level coder, so I dont know how else I can help you. :-) This is a problem I had with 1.3.10, but I downloaded 1.3.11 to see if you

[fdo] How to update the xorg-server on Red Hat Linux 5
Hi All, When running couple graphics based testing on RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.3 VM, the xwindow crashes. The xorg is killed because of segmentation error. In RH6.0 VM, there is no crash in testing. The rpm version of xorg-server on 5.3 and 6.0 are 1.1.1 and 1.7.7 respectively. Because of the dependency issue, I can't install 1.7.7 on a RH5 VM. Is there a way to update the xorg-server to a

Configuration for binding to "secure" ports?
[Note to R. Wolff -- thanks for the pointers and the program. As I understand its workings, it would run as root and bind a listen port to a particular program -- with a list being supplied in /etc/portadmin or other file. Basically, a listen wrapper. Hopefully this message will address your cleanup concerns in my previous message. Thanks. Also, you may want to provide a moderator''s

IceCast 1.3.11: Segmentation Violation in Linux
*sigh* Yes, you're right... It _has_ been a few years. My drive is filling up and all, I probably have tons of old/vulnerable daemons, so it's probably time for a fresh install.
