http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/dovecot-1.1.7.tar.gz.sig
I should have released this earlier since v1.1.6 had that annoying
startup problem, but surprisingly few people complained about it so I
kind of forgot about it then.
BTW. v1.2 progresses nicely. Now that shared mailboxes are finally fully
supported, there aren't any widely used IMAP

FTS index generation
Hi folks. I'm experimenting with the Squat plugin. I can execute
search commands via direct interaction with IMAP, but I never see the
expected dovecot.index.search index file appear in the spool. I'm
concerned that I've misconfigured something that is preventing the
creation of those indices. Is there a facility to have the squat
plugin generate debugging messages so I

Is there any documentation for the plugin API? A cursory glance
through the docs didn't turn up anything.

SASL using different auth database?
Hi folks. Is it possible to configure Dovecot to authenticate
against one mechanism (i.e., /etc/passwd) for POP/IMAP connections,
while providing a SASL authentication socket that satisfies
authentication requests against a different mechanism, say MySQL?
The goal here is to allow users to have different passwords for
SMTP authentication and POP/IMAP connections. I am converting an

deleted messages not going away in Thunderbird?
Hi folks. This may be a dumb question, but I can't seem to find a clue.
I'm running Dovecot v1.2.9 and Thunderbird v3.1.7. If I delete
messages using a different IMAP client (I also use an iPhone and
occasionally SquirrelMail), I would expect those messages to disappear
from Thunderbird the next time I start it or click on "Get Mail". In
fact, they do...most of the

feature request: deny IP address via database
Hey folks. One feature I'd really like to see in dovecot is the
ability to point it at a database (with a configurable query) and
have it allow or deny a connection based on looking up the source IP
address in that database.
I run Postfix, and I've got it configured to use a database server
for its smtpd_client_restrictions checks. Ideally I'd like to point

need convert-tool advice
Hi folks,
I've got a few thousand accounts that I'd like to convert from mbox to
maildir. I'm looking at using convert-tool from the command line to do
this, but I'm uncertain about the command line syntax, so I hope someone
can take a moment to go over this with me.
I'm running dovecot 1.1.6 on this system. Mail accounts are not tied
to UNIX system accounts, I'm

Thunderbird caching problem
Using a fairly simple dovecot config (which obviously needs some max limit tweaking) we have problems with IMAP synchronization between thunderbird clients.
Two TB clients in the same IMAP mailbox will, from time to time, show different views of the same INBOX folders, when TB caching is enabled. The only fix is to right-click on the folder, go to "Properties" and use the "Repair

questions about maildir to mdbox migration
Hi folks! I converted some of the spools on my mail server from
maildir to mdbox. It went smoothly and the performance has been great.
However, I have two questions regarding the process.
First, I failed to notice the fairly low default mdbox_rotate_size,
and I changed it in dovecot.conf after the migration. Is it possible to
somehow make that change retroactive, to coalesce the couple

If you don't expect yor firewall to handle 45K+ IPs, I'm not how you
expect dovecot will handle a comma separated string with 45K+ entries

Upgrade path questions
Hi,
We are currently running Dovecot v1.1.6 on our servers, and are
contemplating an upgrade to 1.2, or 2.0 soon. We are wondering how many
organizations are still running a 1.1 version of Dovecot, and if anyone
has any thoughts on this transition. Have you upgraded from 1.1 to 1.2?
What are your experiences with this? Have you upgraded from 1.1 to 2.0
directly? What are your experiences this

if forced to the wall, you can try below (need to "rewrite" the code a little):
unless i am very much mistaken, you can do "dynamic allocation" for
some of the memory. these memories are only required when you are
running eg speex_encode for the

VoIP over virtualized VPN
Hi List,
Our company has several small distributed offices we would like to
inter-connect with bridged VPN a single subnet (last example in
http://www.shorewall.net/OPENVPN.html). We have SIP phones in every
office (up to 5) so we can use SIP without any NATing and securely.
Max theoretical simultaneous calls possible ~30, but we have ~5-10 @
regular basis.
OpenVPN server would be in the same
