with mbox format doveadm ignores subfolders of inbox
Hello.
After we switched the format from mbox to mdbox on our dovecot
(version 2.1.9) servers last week, some of our users were missing the
subfolders of their inboxes. So far we thought that with the mbox
format it is not possible to have mail folders containing both
messages and subfolders. Now we know that there is one exception from
this rule: the inbox. With mbox format dovecot

How Dovecot 2 create folders and subfolders ( MBOX format ) with TB ?
Hello
When creating new IMAP folder with thunderbird and Dovecot
configured with the std MBOX format dovecot create a file in
mbox format and so it is not possible to create a subfolder of
this folder.
If you ask to create a NEW subfolder of the form : TOTO/TATA
Dovecot create a directory TOTO containing a mbox file TATA.
Very useful :-)
I suppose the "/" separator is parsed by

Outlook can't see namespace folders
Hi guys i understand that you can't subscribe to the Prefix names of
namespace folders right now with dovecot.
But for instance if i user outlook express and it can't see the prefix
name then it can't see the subfolders of that "prefix folder" either.
So even though it can detect and see the subfolders it won't display
them cause it can't see the "parent"

IMAP Folders
Hi all,
We're using the mbox format and I tried setting up IMAP on my boss's
computer tonight.
He likes subfolders, and although they work, he can't seem to remove
subfolders once he created them, nor create new folders without using
something other than his mail client (like mkdir from the command line).
Any ideas on this? Does dovecot just not officially support IMAP and

mbox, hierarchical folders/folders and IMAP
Hello,
I'm now dealing with funny problem. I try to use Dovecot (2.1.rc1,
actually) and mbox format to store old mailing, to keep logic of "one
folder = one file".
If I'd choose Maildir, I'd be able to create hierarchical folders (like
"OldMail -> Maillists -> Dovecot"), and in fact on disk such a folders
would be stored as real folders with dots in

problems deleting folders
I've been having this problem for quite some time now of not being able
to remove folders. I'm using:
Fedora Core 2
dovecot-0.99.10.4-4
And dovecot is setup as using imaps (w/ SSL) and mbox files (instead of
maildir).
I've done a small amount of tracing to see what the problem is, and it
looks like what happens is when all messages in a folder is removed,
there's still a

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi,
I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store
INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox.
I've tried something like
default_mail_env =
mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user
but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox).
I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on
nicely-mirrored NetApp

Can't create subfolders of my INBOX or delete folders with IMAP
Hi,
I've been using the dovecot IMAP server for about a year now, and
basically it works. But there's an annoying problem, that I can't make
any subfolders. I can only make folders that are at the same level as
my INBOX folder. Worse, I can't delete folders once I've created them.
I'm using Debian unstable on both the server machine and my client
machine. The

missing empty line in mbox folders with Outlook 2000 client
I recently looked into a problem that has been plaguing me since the
switch to dovecot a couple of years back, documented here:
http://mailman.rwth-aachen.de/pipermail/procmail/2006-May/024363.html
The gist is that when I tell Outlook 2000 to write all outgoing mail
into a Sent-mail folder on the IMAP server (using mbox format), I
find that the mbox's don't have empty lines separating the

mbox folders on-disc layout
I'd like to change the on-disk layout for my mboxes from being
~/mail/foo/bar
to
~/mail/foo.bar
so that I can have folders containing both messages and subfolders,
without having subfolders beginning with . and then having to do all the
other fiddling with locations of index files etc. that goes along with
LAYOUT=maildir++, and also leaving the filesystem layout looking
sensible so

Sync errors trying to sync old mbox inboxes to dovecot
We are currently running dovecot 2.2.rc3.
I am trying to 'dsync mirror' old Qpopper/mbox inboxes to our new Dovecot/mdbox servers. For most of the several thousand accounts, it works without issue. But there are a handful of accounts that are generating the following errors.
dsync(joe): Error: Sync failed for mbox file /var/opt/migrate/users/joe/inbox: seq=981 uid=981 uid_broken=0

configuration problem: maildir folders and messages not found
Hi
Perhaps I've been going too far OT in my previous thread or perhaps I
just didn't explain my problem clear enough so forgive me for trying
again.
I have configured fetchmail to fetch my mail from my ISP's POP3-server.
I have set up procmail to filter messages and deliver all non-filtered
messages to the folder ".IN-catchall/" in "$HOME/Maildir"

rsync over ssh
I have been trying to get rsync with ssh to work and have found that even
though I have a daemon running it spawns another when I connect (running as
the user I sshed as). This was in the enhancements for 2.5.6. I am trying
to figure out how i can use the ssh for security but still connect to the
daemon that I have running as root so i can back up all of my files that
arn't readable by anyone

Testing Ogg Vorbis with modules.
To anyone who wants to compare Ogg Vorbis to various other
codecs, or at all, try converting modules (.mod/.xm/.it/etc) to .wav
and then encoding them with oggenc.
While most modules arn't what most people would use Vorbis for, it
will give you a good idea on what it can (and can't!) do.
www.modarchive.com has loads of modules. Try the techno ones, in
particular.

dsync: assert panic on mbox // no INBOX sync on hybrid mbox/maildir
Hi,
This (hopefully!) might be a case of user error, as I'm new to
dovecot... Alternatively it might be some confusion in an index, since
I've been mucking about trying different things in my configuration
files and had frequent crashes.
I'm trying to sync 2 (LAN) hosts, ideally to have full automatic
replication happening.
They both have hybrid mbox INBOX and maildir++ folders,

Maildir, INDEX, and folders
I'm reading the wiki et el. regarding indexes, but can't come up with a
coherent answer to the setup and what will happen. I want to take the
indexes and move them off of NFS (~/Maildir) and place in
/var/spool/dovecot/indexes, but not have to hand create everything (user
homes, mail folders)
So, I create a parent folder /var/spool/dovecot/indexes that has the
appropriate permissions

Can't remove folder (no thunderbird issue)
Hi,
first of all: yes, I already dug the internet but didn't find a solution - that's why I'm asking you.
My provider uses dovecot, although I can't tell you more about the version - sorry. Mail is stored in mbox format.
My trouble:
I was unable to create subfolders and googled a bit. A proposed solution was to append a slash at the end of the folder name.
I used Thunderbird to
