Error: userdb lookup: connect(/var/run/dovecot/auth-master) failed: Permission denied
I am making my first attempt to get dovecot working with Postfix virtual users/domains. The following is the error log and the output of "dovecot -n". I am probably doing something really stupid; however, I do not know what. MailDIR and expire plugin
All of the mailboxes on this system are in MailDIR format. None of the users delete mail off of the server after POPing their accounts. This is the present setting: expire = Trash 7 Spam 30 expire_dict = proxy::expire Is that correct for MailDIR style mailboxes? It doesn't appear correct; however, I have not been able to find any specific documentation on expire with MailDIR style

Dovecot as LDA with Postfix
I have been attempting to replace Procmail with Dovecot as the LDA for my Postfix mail server, but without success. Below is a truncated output from the /var/log/maillog. Problem with IMAP on port 993
This is probably a misconfiguration of my MUA; however, I thought I would ask here first. I am using IMAP with Dovecot. Claws-mail is my MUA. Now, when fetching mail via port 143, everything works fine: Mar 29 10:33:00 imap-login: Info: Login: user=<user at domain.net>, method=CRAM-MD5, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, TLS However, when I attempt to fetch mail via port 993, I get this

pcre vs. regexp for Postfix checks
What are your opinions on pcre vs regexp for header_, body_, and mime_checks in Postfix? I looked at the regexp_table and prce_table man pages, and see almost no difference other than the available flags. Miark

SASL + Postfix woes
Okay, I wasn't going to try and fix up the messed up mail server I was given; however, I decided that I might as well try. Situation: The system has a Postfix MTA and uses Dovecot for LDA and Cyrus-SASL for SASL. That works fine. I decided that I wanted to switch over to Dovecot for SASL. dovecot is presently using MySQL for its database. I make the (I thought) necessary changes in Postfix

Postfix question: How to reject email with a certain subject header
Hello everyone, Occasionally I get emails which have a subject header of "Rejected posting to Blah", from a listserv I am on. Without going into a 10 page diatribe of why, I'd like to reject these automatically, sending them to /dev/null. I used to run Sendmail and that was pretty easy to do. How can I do this under Postfix under CentOS 5.3? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Dovecot as LDA
FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-p8 postfix-current-2.4.20060903,3 dovecot-1.0.r7 I am experiencing a problem with dovecot as an LDA. It will not deliver mail unless the mail directory is chmod'd to 1777. Below is an example of the log file output. The dovecot.log file had over a hundred entries similar to this: deliver(gerard): Error: open(/var/mail/.temp.scorpio.seibercom.net.1123.cd38cd4d82e1368f)

Usernames & Passwords
I thought I had posted this previously, but I cannot seem to find any record of it. I am using Samba in a mixed network (WinXP and FreeBSD 5.4). There is no domain involved. Using the following command, I can access a share on one of the WinXP machines: smbclient //SERVER/SHARE -u NAME%PASSWORD I now find that I can also access the share using an incorrect 'NAME' or 'PASSWORD'

Unable to get Dovecot LDA/deliver working
I want to setup Dovecot LDA, but I don't understand what I'm doing anymore. I have to note that I'm a Linux beginner. I've been trying now for several months and I'm about to give up. Till so far I'm having no result. :-( My current setup is done as described at http://www.linuxmail.info. We use Postfix 2.3.3 (with Postgrey, Spamassassin and ClamAV), Dovecot 1.2.11 and

POP does not seem to be working
OK, I am brand new to this so please bear with me. I have an FreeBSD 6.1 STABLE system. Postfix is installed with qpopper. The mailboxes are standard mbox format. I just installed Dovecot. At some point I want to update to a mdir format, etc., but quite frankly I do not know how to go about that. In any case, I shut down qpopper and started Dovecot. I modified the Dovecot.conf file SSL settings

Customizing Sign-Off Message
This is probably a dumb question; however, I have never let a thing like that stop me before. A user can configure Dovecot to give a customized greeting when it is accessed. Is there anyway to customize the message it displays when it terminates the session? -- Gerard Seibert gerard at seibercom.net "Losing my virginity was a career move." Madonna
