Experience with Promise Tech. arrays/jbod''s?
Greetings, In looking for inexpensive JBOD and/or RAID solutions to use with ZFS, I''ve run across the recent "VTrak" SAS/SATA systems from Promise Technologies, specifically their E-class and J-class series: E310f FC-connected RAID: http://www.promise.com/product/product_detail_eng.asp?product_id=175 E310s SAS-connected RAID:

PCI SATA Controller Recommendations?
Hello fellow listers... I'd like to get some recommendations on a good SATA controller for use with CentOS 5.x. It should be PCI, bootable, have 4 SATA ports, have native support (no crap proprietary or manually compiled drivers), and possibly hot swap support. Any ideas? There are plenty of PCI-X and PCIe controllers that I think would work but the use for this card is in a smaller 1U

Problem with Arima HDAMA rev.G with Integrated SiliconImage Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports and 1TB SATA disks. Recomendation for a cheap SATA controller for linux software raid?
Dear Everybody, I am telling you the whole story, perhaps you can give me a better idea. Almost 3 years ago I purchased Arima HDAMA rev. G motherboard with integrated Silicon Image Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports SATA I adapter. ( http://www.arimacorp.com/ViewProduct.asp?View=86 ) . BIOS version is 2.13. My intention is to make a file server, using linux software raid, so I bought 2 new shiny 1TB

smartd and 3ware on centos5
Hi, I've CentOS5 box with 3ware RAID controller in it. I can't get the tw_cli command line tool to work, and smartd also barks on me. The tw_cli simply doesn't see the controller, no errors logged anywhere. When starting smartd, it is much more verbose. I'm getting a bunch of messages like this: Oct 9 22:15:15 toporko kernel: program smartd is using a deprecated SCSI ioctl,

2.6.9-42.ELsmp kernel and 3ware 9550 tools
I have the latest kernel with the drivers for my 3ware 9550SX built in. Where can I find the tools and monitoring apps for this card? Are there rpms hiding somewhere, or do I need to build it from source? -- Bowie

Installing on Abit BE7-RAID
I have RH 8 running on a Abit BE7-RAID motherboard. My task is installing Centos 4.1 with limited knowledge on installing with hardware RAID. The arrays are still in place for the two pairs of drives. HighPoint only shows drivers up through RH 9. Is there anyone who can take me through the steps? Remove the existing arrays? Will the drivers work with Centos 4.1? Since I used Windows to

Raid driver for Highpoint RocketRAID 454
Anyone who know if there exist drivers for Highpoints RocketRAID 454 for CentOS? I didn't find any on their site for RedHat Enterprise, which I tought would work with centos, so.. anyone? http://www.highpoint-tech.com/USA/bios_rr454.htm /H?vard

CentOS 5 grub boot problem
I am trying to upgrade my system from 500GB drives to 1TB. I was able to partition and sync the raid devices, but I cannot get the new drive to boot. This is an old system with only IDE ports. There is an added Highpoint raid card which is used only for the two extra IDE ports. I have upgraded it with a 1TB SATA drive and an IDE-SATA adapter. I did not have any problems with the system

g_vfs_done with offset greater than disk size
I've been trying to get a problem fixed with a Highpoint 1820a crashing out with errors like: kernel: IAL: COMPLETION ERROR, adapter 0, channel 2, flags=104 kernel: ATA regs: error 10, sector count 20, LBA low ff, LBA mid ff, LBA high ff, device 4f, status 51 which results in the disk being dropped from the array. A sharp eyed engineer at Highpoint has just spotted the fact that the read

RAID / OS Monitoring tools ?
Hi List; I just got a new server (my first **real** server). It's a dell 2900 : quad core XEON (with a spare slot for a 2nd quad core chip) 8G memory (expandable to 64G) 8 hot swap SATA HD slots onboard PERC6i RAID controller etc I initially setup the system / RAID as follows: 1) booted off the dell setup CD 2) walked through the RAID setup and formatted the drives 3) the setup bombed

CentOS 6.0 and 3ware 9650SE series RAID Performance
Hello, Does anyone have experience using a 3ware 9650SE series raid controller on CentOS 6.0? I am getting very sporadic throughput with moderately sized files (0.5-2GB) on ext3. I have tried most of the mount time tuning options: * noatime * trying different journal types * setting commit=120 - helped a little Even after these optimizations it doesn't seem like the raid array is working

HighPoint RocketRaid 454
Hello, I know that this card has support in FreeBSD but I'm curious if anyone has used them under heavy load in a RAID-5 configuration. We're thinking of equipping two of these cards with 8 120GB Hitachi drives and run it in an RAID-5 array for video material. The usual data streams will likely be 2-3 streams at about 5-20MB/s (totally) and I know that a single drive will handle that,

Highpoint Rocketraid 2240
Has anyone on the list used one of these w/Linux? We currently use Linux + Cinelerra for editing uncompressed video (and a few dual G5 macs running Final Cut Pro). Current editing stations are getting a bit long in the tooth so I've been mulling over a mass upgrade. 8-) These cards are interesting to me because they are PCI-X and support 4 SATAII drives per multilane/infiniband

Third-party SATA-RAID cards suggestions
Hi all, Would anybody care to suggest a third party SATA-RAID card that works out of the box with CentOS 6, without having to jump through hoops to make it work? The card should preferably be able to connect ten harddrives, but I guess three four-port cards should work as well. There's no need for anything fancy really, as long as I can create a single big software-raid on it at CentOS

cpu load on centOS 4.4
Hello all, I've installed samba on pretty basic install on centos 4.4. I'm running a P4 2.8Ghz, 1G Ram, Raid 5 SATA-2 disks running on both a 3ware and Highpoint Rocket raid (this is going to get swapped out for a 3ware card soon). When users copy files from a mac os x client I'm seeing the cpu load avg (in top) get up to 7. These copies included 150+Gigs of lots of smaller
