What is eating my memory?
The tail of two systems and one hard drive. I install centos 5 on a HD while it is in a Compaq with 256Mb memory. After install, i am in graphics mode (Gnome) and top reports not quite all 256Mb used. Then I move the HD to a decTOP with 512Mb memory. I am running non-graphics (init 3). I ssh into the unit and top reports not quite all of that used..... So what ate up more than 256Mb

suspicious memory usages
Following is the output of top command at my server and i find the high usage very much alarming. We are basically a team of three developers working on same machine(remotely), so we run mongrel_rails servers from out ~/public/app directories. We also run a cluster of mongrel servers using apache2.2. Is this much memory use normal? PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+

How do you reconcile foreign keys for forms?
Hi all, I''m looking to resolve foreign keys for forms -- similar to the way "streamlined" does it. Although the actual value stored in an object is the foreign key integer, I''d like the actual name of the item displayed. I''m *sure* it''s easy. Thoughts? Reconcile Random Samples
Is there a way to generate identical random samples using R's runif function and SAS's ranuni function? I have assigned the same seed values in both software packages, but the following results show different results. Thanks! How to reconcile Kalman filter result (by package dlm) with linear regression?
Hello All,   I am working with dlm for the purpose of estimating and forecasting with a Kalman filter model. I have succesfully set up the model and started generating results. Of course, I need to somehow be sure that the results make sense. Without any apparent target to compare with, my natural selection is the results by odinary least square. The idea being that if I choose a diffuse prior,

AstDB/Berkely DB - Hash function? Balanced-Tree? b-Tree? Linked List?
Does anyone know enough about the implementation of AstDB to know whether the data structure is a Hash function, a Balanced-Tree, a b-Tree, or a Linked List? I'm trying to estimate the lookup 'cost' of a AstDB with around 160,000 keys? Obviously I already know that it WILL WORK, but the question is whether the data structure is optimal in the Berkeley DB AS IMPLEMENTED in Asterisk.

Hello, I'm running dovecot 2.1.16 in a ubuntu 12.04 server, with lazy_expunge, SiS and mdbox format. The problem I'm having is that the index for one the mailboxes of one of my users is growing too much. This is not the first time of this problem. In previous cases, is because a message is duplicated thousand of times (I haven't found any reason for this). In these cases,

Unusable performance over WAN (part 2)
Hi all, Disregard my previous posts, I've consolidated everything here. I'm having terrible performance issues with samba over a WAN (point-to-point T1 link). Doing a copy of a 2MB file from a samba server to a linux client running smbclient takes over 5 minutes. SCPing the same file takes seconds. The server is running samba version 3.0.25c with kernel 2.6.16.18. I've put up a set

Size of produced binaries when compiling llvm & clang sources
Dear llvm developpers, I followed the tutorial to build llvm and clang provided here: https://clang.llvm.org/get_started.html The sources are in sync with subversion repository, and I ended up with more than 30GB of binaries in llvm/bin as shown at the end of this message. I assume I did something wrong, but I did not find any entry in the doc that helps me understand how to reduce the size of

Lost setting up IAXmodem after drive crash
A few weeks ago, I lost my Trixbox that was all set up with Hylafax and IAXmodem. I am trying to set it up for email > procmail > faxmail > iaxmodem > asterisk >sipext > ATA (with attached fax). I have followed all the instructions on creating the IAX extension and configuring the IAXmodem config file. I can see the connection in Asterisk: iax2 show peers Name/Username

Linux router performance
Hi, I wonder about the performance of a Linux box used as router (I guest I''m not the first :). Althought I know it mainly depends on the hardware, I''m trying to find some references on the topic or comparations with other routing solutions (FreeBSD box used as router, Cisco, etc). For example, http://facweb.cti.depaul.edu/jyu/Publications/Yu-Linux-TSM2004.pdf (althought is

Hi, I'm looking a porting the Opus encoder (encoder only) to a Cypress PSoC 4 (a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0 with very limited resources), and would like to know the feasibility of stripping down the encoder to fit. I've been playing with the encoder configured with "--enable-fixed-point --disable-intrinsics". The end result I'm trying to get to is encoding a single 16kHz 16-bit

Gluster very poor performance when copying small files (1x (2+1) = 3, SSD)
Howdy all, We're experiencing terrible small file performance when copying or moving files on gluster clients. In the example below, Gluster is taking 6mins~ to copy 128MB / 21,000 files sideways on a client, doing the same thing on NFS (which I know is a totally different solution etc. etc.) takes approximately 10-15 seconds(!). Any advice for tuning the volume or XFS settings would be

Questions about OPUS 1.2
I would like to ask them Why do they always say that OPUS is a leader in 64k and 96k, but that it is not 128k or 192k? Does OPUS not achieve transparency in 128k and at 160k is it like a 320k MP3 file? Thanks for reading my question, this is referred to the new version of OPUS 1.2. Since I want to know your recommendation for a transparent file at a lower bitrate. -------------- next part
