Can't establish Dovecot authorization in Exim.
Hi,
I have some problem in Dovecot authorization in Exim for
outgoing SMTP.
Version of Exim is 4.69 and the Exim was compiled
with "AUTH_DOVECOT=yes" and "AUTH_PLAINTEXT=yes".
Version of Dovecot
is 1.2.12.
I use SSL for IMAP. Is Exim neccesary to use SSL(TLS)
for authorization of outgoing SMTP?
Configuration files is as

Exim4 authentication patch
Hello all,
attached patch makes possible to use dovecot as an authentication
backend for Exim 4. Reasons beyond this patch are simple:
exim's authenticators require use of plaintext passwords and NTLM
code in exim is quite outdated and hairy.
Patch generated against Exim 4.43, but should apply to earlier
versions too.
Patch adds new 'dovecot' authenticator, which can be used as such:

Exim Dovecot Authentication Problem
Having a hard time figuring out something that is supposed to be easy.
Tryiong to configure Dovecot so that it provides authentication to Exim
for outgoing smtp. Tried different things and getting

Samba AD and Dovecot
Hello All,
I haven't seen the answer to this, maybe I am just using the wrong
searches. I have two queries related to this:
1) I have seen how to configure for LDAP and Kerberos. AD uses both
together. All user information is in AD/LDAP and authentication is
AD/Kerberos. How can I configure Dovecot to use both appropriately?
2) I can cause Samba to create certain directories on login, etc.

EXIM + Dovecot - Auth mechanism
Hello all.
Sorry for a lot of question - im making a new mail system now.
Im wondering how to auth different MUA.
For example Thunderbird & The Bat 4.x - CRAM-MD5
MS Outlook 2007 - DIGEST-MD5
Im create a 3 users and store passwords in LDAP using MD5-CRYPT(1),
CRYPT(2) and MD5(3) - for tests.
If im not use "secure connection" in thunderbird - im auth fine(plain
text over SSL)

Hi all,
This is the first time I use the dovecot mail list so I?m sorry if I forget something.
My problem is that for some reason I can get public mailboxes to work. I have setup the directory Public, the folders and the cur,tmp and new folder in them:
Public

Here is my dovecot conf:

dovecot SASL as auth backend to exim?
hi,
i'm running dovecot branch_10 cvs on OSX 10.4.7 w/ exim 4.63.
i'd like to use Dovecot's SASL as an auth backend to exim, instead of
Cyrus-SASL.
@ dovecot's sasl page:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Sasl
i know there's a patch against exim 4.43:
http://www.exim.org/eximwiki/AuthenticatedSmtpUsingDovecot
that, purportedly, enables EXIM to use dovecot's SASL as an

OT - Mime-construct, exim4 and job numbers
Hi,
I'm using mime-construct to send fax files (from an Asterisk server).
mime-construct is using exim4 to have its job done.
Trouble is I'm not pleased with the way I can link mime-construct and exim4
jobs (whenever an exim4 job fails, mime-construct exit code is still 0) :
all I'm doing at the moment is reading exim4 and syslog log files for events
matching.
In syslog, I've

exim4 + dovecot + SquirrelMail virtualhosted on Debian
Hello,
I have a Debian machine that is virtual-hosting 6 domains with exim4. I finally got exim4 working well enough where I can send and receive mail using the mail command on my machine. I would eventually like to have SquirrelMail (which requires IMAP) working on my website. For whatever reason, exim4 doesn't seem to support IMAP. I found out that Dovecot is a prominent IMAP server.

pop before smtp with 'exact' and 'exim4'
Hello,
I just thought I would write this in case its useful to anyone. I've used
dovecot for a while, as its so easy to set up, its fast and it and just
"works". I recently wanted to be able to send via my server after pop3s
authentication. I'm also running debian (testing) which utilises exim4 by
default. I found no information about how to do it with this combination of

pop3 exim4 dovecot
Hi,
I have an exim4 and dovecot system. The system has multiple accounts.
Exim4 is receiving emails in the /var/mail/user files and dovecot is
configured to use /home/user/mail (mbox) folder.
I have one account that dovecot is not processing replies/bounces/etc...
The data is being written in the /var/mail/user file by exim4 but as far
as dovecot is aware there is nothing in the pop3 inbox.

Broken auth-* sockets.
Hello.
I am migrating my servers to Ubuntu and have been having an issue with
Dovecot authenticator service.
Exim is set up to use dovecot-auth, anticipating the question whether
exim binary was compiled with support of Dovecot authenticator, it was:

Exim and Dovecot2 SASL: 435 Unable to authenticate at present
Hi. I had working Exim 4.71 and Dovecot 1.2.9 SASL configuration on
Ubuntu Lucid, but needed some features from dovecot2, so I installed
2.0.13 from
https://launchpad.net/~carsten-uppenbrink-net/+archive/dovecot2 . Now I
get Subj error while trying to authenticate via dovecot auth-client
socket. However IMAP auth works fine with 2.0.13 and smtp auth worked
fine until upgrade, so I think

[PATCH v2 0/4] New getprogname module
Hi,
as discussed in [1], this series adds a new getprogname module.
All it does is providing a getprogname function, much like what is
found on e.g. *BSD systems, and using it in gnulib instead of progname.
Also, using it explicitly by modules avoids gnulib users the need of
either use the progname module (GPL), or to provide program_name (and
call set_program_name manually, which is not always
