Error: userdb lookup
Hi list,
I am trying to get rid of the "Error:
file_dotlock_create(~/.dovecot.lda-dupes) failed: No such file or
directory" by adding home directories to my virtual users (ldap).
I want this home dir' to be specified like this:
/var/vmail/$USER/home/
and the sieve scripts to go to:
/var/vmail/$USER/home/sieve/
So as suggested before in this list, I have replaced:

Problem with dovecot + imap idle + qmail-local delivery
Hi,
I've recently switched from courier-imap to dovecot. Everything seemed to work fine, but after I while I noticed that dovecot is occasionaly causing problems with delivery of new incoming mails.
System: Gentoo Linux, kernel 2.6.19, qmail 1.03, vpopmail 5.4.26 , dovecot 1.1.11, maildir, mail store on ext3.
Symptoms: qmail is having trouble with the mail delivery.

public folders grayed out
Hi folks,
I have configured a public folder as described on the
Wiki (more or less; see below), but in TB3 I see the
"Public" folder grayed out. I cannot subscribe. Toggling
the subscriptions flag doesn't help.
What did I miss here? Any helpful comment would be highly
appreciated.
If this is a TB3 problem: Which MUA would you suggest?

fts_solr on debian lenny dovecot 1.2.15
Hello,
I cannot run FTS SOLR engine. OS is debian lenny. I re-compiled debian
package (from backports) with --with-solr option. Dovecot loads fts_solr
plugin. I know that it loads plugin because if I remove lib21_fts_solr_plugin.so, dovecot does not start. But it does not attempt to communicate with SOLR.
Simple check: stop solr tomcat, and open 8080 port in netcat:
$nc -l -p 8080

Problem with managesieve (and virtual users?)
Hello,
I use the debian packages from http://xi.rename-it.nl/debian/
version 1.1.7-0~auto+17
If I put a sieve script into /home/vmail/sieve-scripts/test.de/test.sieve
it is used, so cmusieve works.
But if I activate managesieve I get in the log:
dovecot: 2008-12-14 21:24:49 Fatal: managesieve-login: USER environment missing
dovecot: 2008-12-14 21:24:49 Error: managesieve-login: BYE

expire plugin and sieve
Hi.
I am running dovecot 1.2.9 here, allowing users to filter their mails
with the sieve plugin, and am using sieve to move mail tagged as
probably spam into the spam folder.
I'm now looking to get the expire plugin working as well. It does work
as described in the wiki: Once I manually move messages into other
folders, the mysql database is filled with entries.
However, the

sieve addflag has stopped working
Dovecot 1.2.10 in Debian, using Dovecot sieve.
I have a sieve script, generated by Ingo, that's supposed to mark spam messages
as "Seen" and file them into the Junk folder. In part it reads:
require ["regex", "body", "imapflags", "fileinto"];
if exists "X-Spam-Flag" {
addflag "\\Seen";

expire-tool skipping mailbox
Hello,
I have dovecot set up with expire-tool to nuke Junk messages greater than 30 days old. On a server with many user accounts, it seems to work on most of them.
However, on my user account, expire-tool skips my Junk folder entirely, despite it containing messages from January of this year. Here is the expire-tool --test output:

is it possible to fetch messages for multiple users using a single account?
Dear list,
I am running dovecot with LDAP. Each account has email in form
abc at example.com, and messages are stored at /var/vmail/abc/Maildir.
This is an external mail server, and I would like to use a cron job to
fetch all messages to an internal server which has slow internet
connection.
It seems getmail supports multidrop retriever which might fit the
bill. However I could not figure out how

Upgrade from 1.2.16 with sieve/managesieve to 2.0.8 with pigeonhole
Hi,
I would like to upgrade my server from 1.2.16 with sieve and managesieve
to 2.0.8 with pigeonhole. Will I get all functionality I was having
before? Should this migration be painless or will it require some
additional work?
I've read the Upgrading guide so I know I need to create an additional
user. I've migrated the mails from Maildir to dbox in the past (using

Sharing all mailboxes and userdb LDAP attrs
Hello all,
I'm setting up a Dovecot environment here, version 1.2.15 on Debian 6.0.2
"squeeze". This is actually a complete revamp of the previous setup we have
in-place here, built from the ground up with updated versions of all
involved software.
The operators have told me that they use some scripts hacked up by a
previous sysadmin to give a single "admin" account full

Problem with IMAP on port 993
This is probably a misconfiguration of my MUA; however, I thought I
would ask here first.
I am using IMAP with Dovecot. Claws-mail is my MUA. Now, when fetching
mail via port 143, everything works fine:
Mar 29 10:33:00 imap-login: Info: Login: user=<user at domain.net>, method=CRAM-MD5, rip=127.0.0.1, lip=127.0.0.1, TLS
However, when I attempt to fetch mail via port 993, I get this

userdb didn't return a home directory with v1.1.7
Hi all,
I am running Dovecot v1.1.7 in a relatively quiet and calm environment.
Suddenly overnight cron job has started throwing out errors like:

Error: userdb(user1 at mail.example) didn't return a home directory
Error: userdb(user2 at mail.example) didn't return a home directory

(no subject)
Using Postfix with Virtual Users/Virtual Domains, I have configured
it with a wild card entry; i.e., "*.mydomain.com"
This works fine in Postfix; however, using Dovecot for delivery is
causing the message to bounce since Dovecot does not have an entry in
the "user passwd" or "userdb" file. I want to store the catch-all
addresses in a separate mailbox. Can I use sieve

dovecot 1.2.beta1: Fatal: io_loop_handle_add: epoll_ctl(1, 11): Bad file descriptor
I'm currently trying out 1.2.beta1 and get the following error in 'mail.err' log file as soon as I stop dovecot:
Feb 11 20:28:30 server dovecot: Fatal: io_loop_handle_add: epoll_ctl(1, 11): Bad file descriptor
Is that anything critical?
Thanks,
