What is happening here - rsync can't copy where cp can, Input/Output errors
I am using rsync version 2.6.9 protocol version 29 on a Fedora 7 system to backup files to a network drive. rsync is getting I/O errors when copying maildir files (I'm not sure if the error is happening with other files but these are the only ones I have found so far). I have done some tests on one particular directory, "cp -R" succeeds but "rsync -r" fails:- home#

Problem with filenames with commas in them
This is a continuation of my previous problem where cp could copy files whereas rsync couldn't. It turns out that the problem is with files which have commas in their names, rsync can write the initial version of the file but it can't check/rewrite them. Here is the error I get from rsync when trying to overwrite the files (using --inplace) :- home# rsync -r --inplace .in

UW-IMAP -> Dovecot : patch to remove nasty "internal messages" from UW-IMAP ?
Hello there, We want to move from UW-IMAP to Dovecot (mbox format), works like a charm, but UW-IMAP has that bloody habbit to make a stupid message in all his mailbox files : From MAILER-DAEMON Thu Apr 19 10:30:01 2001 Date: 19 Apr 2001 10:30:01 +0200 From: Mail System Internal Data <MAILER-DAEMON at mailhub2-vil.isdnet.net> Subject: DON'T DELETE THIS MESSAGE -- FOLDER INTERNAL DATA

R process gets killed spontaneously
My R process has been killed for a few times, although the system administrator did not do so. It happened when R attempted to allocate a lot of memory. I'm wondering whether R would spontaneously kill itself if it can not allocate enough memory?

Why was my R process killed spontaneously?
I tried to use gpuCor function in the gputools package of R to calcuate the pairwise correlations of a matrix of 40,000 columns. Becuase there would be memory issues if I use the whole matrix at a time, I splitted the matrix into submatrix of 10,000 columns and then calculate the pairwise correlation of different submatrices. There are altogether 4 submatrices, so I need to calculate the pearson

[PATCH v2 1/1] cat: virt-tail: Fix spontaneously failing test
According to 'guestfs_sync' API method documentation: "You should always call this if you have modified a disk image, before closing the handle." So, 'guestfish --remote sync' is required because changes made on the disk (guestfish --remote rm /tail) should be visible to 'virt-tail' which works in different process and also accessing the same disk. A you can see,

MS Exchange to MBOX
We are planning on moving a large amount of Exchange mailboxes to UNIX mbox format. My question is, does anyone know of any projects out there or of any tools that can assist in this conversion? Thanks Josh

Querying netgroup information
Hi I have been searching for commands to "debug" netgroup membership. I am using netgroups provided by ldap. I can do a ldap query but it seems a bit unwieldy to do. I have found a package on ubuntu called ng-utils https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/+source/ng-utils/0.7-1 which does what I require and compiles very easily. It contains two commands netgroup and innetgr to query netgroup

Problem with Yum on CentOS 5.4
Hi, I recently downloaded and burned the 5.4 DVD ISO. All my machines are now running 5.4, but these are installs I performed with 5.0, 5.1, 5.2 etc. and then progressively upgraded. Now I had to use 5.4 because a friend's laptop, a brandnew Fujitsu Esprimo Mobile, refuses to boot anything under 5.4. After a fresh install of the base system, first thing I do is 'yum update' with

Adduser help
at http://wiki.openpbx.org/tiki-index.php?page=Easy+route+to+building+OpenPBX.org there is the following adduser command: adduser --no-create-home --ingroup openpbx --disabled-password --disabled-login openpbx This does NOT seem to be the right format for Centos. So far, using man, I have come up with; adduser -M -g openpbx What else do I need?

Samba PDC [3.5.3], Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Temporary local profile for a specific user
L.S., I searched the internet and though there were lots of problems with profile, I haven't found a solution to my specific problem. - Samba server running on OpenSuse 11.1 with a ldap backend acting as PDC. - I have a new Windows 7 pro 64 bit client that has been added succesfully to the domain (with the required registry patches) I do not want to use roaming profiles, so logon path

bash variable expansion moment
It's half a nice Saturday later and many attempts have brought no satisfaction. Maybe this can't be done. I'm trying to write a function which, when called from one function execute in another. In itself, that's not the problem. Rather, there's one built-in variable which is evaluated in the function definition and it's value is then set (too early). Here's the one

/var goes read-only
This is an issue that I have been having with one of our production servers for a couple of months, just out of no where /var goes to read only. There aren't any errors that show up in /var/log/messages nor dmesg, I checked to make sure that the drives on error option is set to continue and there isn't anything as far as I can tell wrong with the disks. Also there is plenty of disk space.

Disabling selinux at boot command prompt
I noticed in 4.92 there is no disabling selinux at install. It is now a firstboot option which then requires a reboot. Is there anyway to disable selinux at the boot install prompt so after the firstboot screens it wont reboot again? I presently install with "linux askmethod" so I can select NFS install. Thanks, Jerry

APM and suspend to swap
I have been delving into how to get this HP NC4010 to suspend. I think the practice of just closing the unit for 15+ min inside my backpack as I move to the next meeting is what cooked my drive... So it seems that Debian users have been successful with APM: http://www.proulx.com/~bob/nc4000/ and http://www.gag.com/~bdale/nc4000/ So my Centos related questions are: I need to turn acpi=off

xorg display problems
Hi all, Up until today everything has been fine with CentOS on my Toshiba laptop. I booted into CentOS 4.3 today and Kudzu detected my video card for some reason. I let it configure it (wish I hadn't now). I can still get in. X and Gnome work. But the video resolution is 800x640. The LCD is capable of 1024x768. I cannot change it using Gnome tools or direct editing of

PXELINUX keeppxe mem footprint
Hi, I want to use PXELINUX to load a DOS disk image which I currently use for Win2K/XP unattended installs. I want to move away from reliance on specific NDIS2 drivers and use the 3Com UNDIS3C driver instead. I have used this successfully to start the MSClient, but the problem is that the UNDI and PXE layer take about 90K of base memory, which means that WINNT.EXE has insufficent memory to run

Truncated Directories
Hi, I have running samba PDC/BDC with ldap backend on debian and external home directory server (samba member server) on solaris. I'm using zfs as a file system for home directories. When I access home directory on windows some directories are truncated to old dos name length. main problem is with snapshotting directory where unix name is ex. Check integrity or rootkits on remote server?
Hello, when one has physical access to a computer, he can run something like tripwire, with keys and checksum on a separate, write-only media, to verify the integrity of the system. What if the system is a remote one (in my case Centos 4.3 on a User Mode Linux VPS some hundred of KMs from here)? Does it still make sense to run tripwire remotely? If yes, how, since you cannot plug a floppy or
