AIX starting and stopping samba from command line
All: I am running on an AIX 5.3 platform and I am looking to see if anybody has a script similar to this (see below) that will work under AIX. My goal is, on boot up I want to have samba started automatically. Can somebody let me what I have to do (on AIX) for this to happen. #!/bin/sh # # /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb - starts and stops SMB services. # # The following

running sshd under AIX 4.3.3 ?
Hi, If anyone has managed to get sshd to run as a subsystem in the System Resource Controller under AIX 4.3.3 (a la mkssys), then please let me know how you did it... I can mkssys and startsrc it, but it dies immediately, leaving a child sshd running with another PID than startsrc reported, and lssrc reports sshd inoperative. Is sshd a process that should stay in foreground, not forking? Or does

Scads of defunct processes ins AIX 4.3.3
I hope someone can help. I've installed 2.9p2 on a number of AIX boxes and it works great. The problem is that a HUGE >700 number of defunct processes get generated by sshd. Did I do something wrong ? Any suggestions ? Please email chuck at fiu.edu as I don't subscribe to the list. TIA, Chuck -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... ubuntu doesn't daemonize smbd
OK, not exactly a samba issue but maybe the Ubuntu maintainer reads this list and can provide some input. Problem: Ubuntu doesn't daemonize smbd. System: Ubuntu Lucid where a recent update moved many startup scripts into the "upstart" system. Now smbd is started and runs as "smbd -F". If I edit the upstart script (/etc/init/smbd.conf) so that it runs as "smbd

AIX 5.3 Samba member server to an NT domain
Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm trying to get AIX to authenticate users off another Samba server (with an eye to doing the same off a Windows server at some point, just to be flexible). I have been using the binary distribution of Samba 3.0.22 to do this. While I have been able to get users to log in by using the WINBIND authentication method, they still cannot change their password or use FTP. I

Inotify instance limit for user exceeded, disabling.
Hi. What does the warning "Inotify instance limit for user exceeded, disabling." mean, and how do I get rid of it? I assume that I have to change a limit somewhere? Regards, Anders.

more problems with dovecot-1.1 beta3
Hi, Thank you for pointing me about -xc99 flag, I have compiled and installed dovecot inplace of version 1.0.5 without any special actions on the upgrade. And after starting it immediately got in it's log file messages like: --- dovecot: Oct 16 23:10:18 Error: IMAP(seriv): file_set_size() failed with index cache file /var/spool/imap/seriv/.imap/.git-altlinux-ru/dovecot.index.cache: Invalid

production switchover questions
So far so good...other than a my-bad fubar with the permission on the index directory that kept DC from creating index dirs for the entering-for-the-first-time users, quickly noticed (thanks to the excellent logging) and corrected. Some questions 1) the max_mail_processes parm in dovecot.conf...is that *all* processes owned by dovecot? 2) I thought there was a parm to limit how many processes

1.1rc1: Maximum number of mail processes exceeded
I'm getting "Maximum number of mail processes exceeded" messages when 512 imap Processes are active. Dovecot reports: Warning: fd limit 1024 is lower than what Dovecot can use under full load (more than 1712). Either grow the limit or change login_max_processes_count and max_mail_processes settings But in my /var/service/dovecot/run script I use: #!/bin/sh mkdir /var/core chmod

Max number of mail processes
Dovecot version 1.1.11. Error: Maximum number of mail processes exceeded (see max_mail_processes setting). I can't seem to get rid of these errors. I get batches of these errors about 4 or 5 times a day. I have a cron-job checking for the existence of this error and then I reboot dovecot when I see this error, but what is causing this error ? mbox snarf plugin + idle
I'm having a problem with mbox snarf not looking at /var/spool/mail/ when in idle mode thus never giving me a RECENT line even though there are new messages in /var/spool/mail/ . Here are the imap commands to reproduce the problem: 1 login userid password 2 select inbox 3 idle When I run "select inbox" it does see my messages in /var/spool/mail/ and moves them over fine.

Samba 3.0.24 on AIX 5.3 + winbindd
Hello, I installed Samba 3.0.24 on my AIX 5.3 and configured it to authenticate users via winbind. I followed the previous thread 'Samba on AIX --> nsswitch.conf', copied WINBIND to /usr/lib/security and modified the default: stanza in /etc/security/user to include WINBIND (in the SYSTEM and registry entry, respectively). Additionally, I added an entry in /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg.

AIX openssh use of SRC control
I'm new to using openSSH on AIX and want to know how others are launching and maintaing sshd. I see where sshd has a -i option for use with inetd, but I am thinking about adding the AIX SRC APIs so that I can use the commands: lssrc, startsrc and stopsrc to maintain the daemon. -- Denise M.
