Samba using Virtual Servers (load balancing)
Hello fellow samba users,
Our company uses samba for all fileshares/printing/PDC on
two SUN E3500's. We like to replace these with about 10
Linux 19" XEON (pizza)boxes. The question: Are there
any implementation out there using a loadbalancing cluster
doing samba?
A simple diagram of the setup I have in mind:

[Fwd: Re: Exporting a samba mount]]
Christopher and the list:
Gee... I wish it would!
My probelm currently is the fact that if I add this line to /etc/exports:
/mnt/MountedSambaShare somebox(nohide)
I get:
somebox:/mnt/MountesSambaShare: Invalid argument
This happens whether /etc/exports says "somebox(nohide)" or
"somebox(ro)" or "somebox()".
Note that /mnt/MounteSambaShare is in fact

Exporting a samba mount]
Anyone have experience with exporting to other Linux boxes a Windows
share mounted on one Linux box?
I have successfully mounted the Windows share on the Linux server box,
but when I edit /etc/exports to include the new mount and run exportfs,
I get error messages regarding the new export. For example, if I add
this line to /etc/exports:
/mnt/windows_share somebox(rw)
I will get the

User/Machine RID generation error?
Hello:
I'm using:
- samba-common-3.0.9-1
- kernel 2.6.5-1.358
- FC 2
- openldap-servers-2.1.29-1
We're running an NT4 domain using an LDAP backend, and everything was running fine until recently. The first thing that I noticed that new users were suddenly being assigned SambaSID's that were previously being assigned to machines.

Block public namespace mail when quota exceeded
Dear All,
is it possible to temporarily reject mails, when quota of public namespace
subfolder is exceeded? I'd check folder size with a cronjob.
Dovecot is using a system user, so I guess blocking post and insert in ACL
isn't a solution?
I don't want to set the folder to read-only, that users can still delete
mails.
Thank you in advance.

Thanks! Migration UWimap -> Dovecot report
Best Dovecot devs,
We moved from UW-imap&pop3 to Dovecot this morning (~500 accounts) and
reduced our traffic from the home directory server to the imap server

Extra_fields / first check userdb?
Hi,
I would like to supply a few users with extra_fields. All users are found by
PAM first so the userdb passwd-file doesnt seem to be used. How to alter
the lookup sequence? We can't remove the accounts from the central passwd,
just for Dovecot.
Thanks,

userdb override?
Hi,
I used to change the mailbox root for some users using a custom userdb
file which contains lines like:
doe::20000:200::/u/doe::userdb_mail=mbox:/u/doe/Mail:INBOX=/var/mail/%u
The logfiles shows the mail location stays default ( rc15 worked ):

Lots of "write_data: write failure in writing to client" and "Error writing 4 bytes to client. -1"
Last week we installed Samba 3.0.20b on one of our servers, worked fine and
does it's job well. But today the load was rising due two smbd processes
taking up all cputime. While looking for hints on what was going on the
logfiles show two types of errors (I don't know at this time if it has
anything to do with the load spike):

Public mailboxes configuration to receive mails
Hello,
I would like to know how to use Public mailboxes in my Dovecot
environment (dovecot 1.2.beta4)
Currently my dovecot server is only used for mailbox user. The Postfix
master.cf is configured with the following line:
"dovecot unix - n n - - pipe flags=DRhu
user=vmail:vmail argv=/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver -d ${user}"
Both dovecot and postfix use

trouble with winbind
Hi,
I'm running samba, V3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE, on suse el9. I've successfully
bound one machine to active directory, I can login to the local box
using domain credentials. However, I can't get a second machine to
the domain, using the exact same procedures. The machine claims to be
bound,
wbinfo -t returns "checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded"
But, when I

Performance Increase Suggestions
Hello Everyone,
I have a few users that are complaining about the "slowness" of
copying files to and saving files directly to the Samba server. From my
own recollections, the speed is rather identical to the speed we
experienced on our old Windows NT 4.0 fileserver.
One thing that could be the impetus of this issue is that Samba
is serving up files, for opening and copying from the

This message is about a reproducable problem regarding Samba printing

Expected results: Print shares should match the CUPS defined configuration.
Results : 1st Print shares get mixed up: "the sharename

mail tools preferences?
We don't have enough arguments here.... <g>
I see that thunderbird's deprecated for RHEL 7, and they recommend
evolution. I've certainly had some annoyances in the last couple-three
years with t-bird. So, what are people's preferred mail tools, other than
t-bird (or maybe mutt or pine.... <g>)?

1.0rc26: ssl_verify_client=yes ?
Q1)
I can't get ssl_verify_client_cert=yes working.
The ssl key and cert are signed using our CA.
Also the ssl_ca_file has a CRL appended (no revokes yet).
Expected behavior:
Stop the SSL (the client doesn't have a cert installed)
Current behavior:
Mail clients accepts SSL and login succeeds.
(both Evolution and Thunderbird).
My bad? Please advise.

The next step, if dovecot blocks
