dbi, rodbc, rmysql, charset problem
Dear List In my short life as a beginning R-user i've encountered a following problem that i'm unable to solve myself: I have a database in MySQL containing table and field names as well as some data containing Polish accentuated characters (like ????), utf8-encoded. It works just fine with just any external query browser i can find, jdbc, odbc, native, whatever. Also mysql is happy

R not responding (must force quit) when saving graphic to PDF (bug?)
Dear Neil Have you tried with completely uninstalling your R, and reinstalling a more recent version (e.g. 3.2.4 right now). And then the same with your operating system - OS X is currently at 10.11.4. There is likely not much interest (or benefit) in chasing such things in obsolete versions. And I think R-help would be the more appropriate place for this kind of question. Wolfgang > On Apr

R not responding (must force quit) when saving graphic to PDF (bug?)
Dear colleagues, I wish to report a problem I encounter when trying to save a graphic to file. When I produce a graphic and try to save it R becomes unresponsive and I must force quit, and then restart R. The problem occurs when I try to overwrite an existing graphic: for example when I made changes to the graphic and want to save the graphic using the original file name. It only happens when I

R not responding (must force quit) when saving graphic to PDF (bug?)
Dear Wolfgang, Thanks for your response. No, I haven't tried doing the complete reinstallation as you suggest. If I recall correctly, this has happened on previous occasions but like I said in my email it's not all that disruptive to my workflow. It's more like a 'first world problem'. I was encouraged to submit the query because I had correspondence with someone involved

Regrouping data
Dear R forum I have just started my venture with R. While I am trying to learn R through the tutorials, I think the current problem I need to address to is beyond my knowledge about R. I have a dataframe as defined below - rat_dat = data.frame(name = c("A", "A", "A", "B", "B", "B", "C", "C", "C",

Slow compilation after moving to modules
We are working on moving our puppet code from old-school method of importing standalone classes in site.pp to modules. I was hoping i could move one class at a time and at the same time review syntax, coding, subclasses and so forth for each class. So, i defined a modulepath in puppet.conf and put a couple of classes there while still keeping the old structure (minus the classes i put in modules

C5 MySQL injection attack ("Union Select")
mysql Ver 14.12 Distrib 5.0.95, for redhat-linux-gnu (x86_64) using readline 5.1 I spotted something strange and immediately installed a routine to automatically impose an iptables block when the key used for database access is excessively long. My URL was something like this ...../...../.....php?key=123456 The injection was something like this

C5 recent openssl update breaks mysql SSL connection
I recently applied updates to a CentOS 5 box running MySQL. I've discovered that the new version of openssl, 0.9.8e-36.0.1.el5_11, breaks MySQL SSL connections. If I rename /lib/libssl.so.0.9.8e and replace it with the old version of that file from openssl-0.9.8e-27.el5_10.1 (not sure if that is the next oldest, but it was handy), then SSL connection to MySQL works again. I then performed

read.table: wrong error message? (PR#10592)
--Apple-Mail-44--797532055 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed; delsp=yes Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I believe read.table may report misleading errors. In this example, where a header line in a file has an incorrect number of row names (28 instead of 29), I get the error message "duplicate row.names are not allowed". However, I cannot not find any
