unknown namespace with Mac OS client
I see in this thread, http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2006-April/012918.html, that others had simmilar problems with Mac OS client. Anyone got a working Dovecot + Mac OS setup? In particular with RC15. Our setup default_mail_env = maildir:Maildir namespace private { separator = . prefix = INBOX. inbox = yes } Would it help to use hidden = yes ?? Reading the description doesn't say

Status of commercial support?
Was going over the archives looking for any info on commercial support. Only found some emails back from 2005. Is there commercial support available? If not, any consultants that could help with an installation. In particular Courier 4 POP migration to dovecot.

*****SPAM***** The folder 'Inbox' cannot contain items. Namespace problems
Several attempts to support both Mac and PCs keep failing. In my latest attempt I used the following settings: #courier-imap compatibility/Thunderbird namespace private { separator = . prefix = INBOX. inbox = yes } For MAC OS Mail.app namespace private { separator = / prefix = INBOX/ inbox = no hidden= yes } This last attempt was based on the suggestion of Timo Sirainen,

Data loss from removing dovecot.index* files?
Hi there, I've been rewriting the courier-dovecot-migrate script to handle dovecot->courier conversions in addition to courier->dovecot. One issue I've found is that when the courier->dovecot conversion is performed a second time (using --overwrite) and the dovecot-uidlist file is written again, Dovecot starts generating errors when accessing the maildir. The simple

Importing into rc.firewal rules

LDA + sieve +Maildir?
I have a working Dovecot + LDA + Maildir setup and am looking to implement sieve with it. The examples that I have seen seem to be for mbox. Does sieve work with maildir? Looking to move mails marked as spam to a spam folder. Also we have a feature we offer to send spam to a different account in the domain. Could this also be done with sieve?

quota reporting and mail.app
Hi everyone. I can't get mail.app to report back correct quota information using mail.app and dovecot (though it works with courier-imap). I am looking at migrating away from courier-imap to dovecot but this issue is something I need to have resolved <somehow>. Thunderbird is fine and reports back good info on either connection. I am off to read RFCs (can't I just read the

Courier migrating issues: indexes, maildirsize, update query
Hi, (my first post to the list) I'm in the process of testing Dovecot to see whether it meets our needs to replace our current Courier setup which serves well over 100.000 mailboxes (pop3 and imap: mysql with NFS) So far dovecot seems pretty straight forward; however I ran into a couple of things that I'm curious about. 1. What's the deal with

Checking realpath file up to date

Deliver bounces messages if can't write to logs
I am new to using Dovecot's LDA deliver. One particular item which I think may be improved.. If one uses logs instead of syslog and if Dovecot/Deliver can't write to the logs, mail is bounced. In contrast if it can't connect to the authentication socket auth-master, it defers. Shouldn't mail be deferred if access to the log files fails due to rights? Doesn defer makes more

Freebsd: fs quota / big maildir
I'm testing dovecot as courier-imap replacement. My setup: FreeBSD 6.1 nfs homedirs on FreeBSD server ~/Maildir 's LDAP auth - bind_auth=yes Seems to work well in most cases, but: - No way to read a maildir with 35000+ messages (a freebsd mailing-list for some years) => Nov 21 12:11:42 host dovecot: child 7217 (imap) killed with signal 11 - No way to have quota plugin reporting

Don't let deliver create index files
For various reasons I want to use deliver with Postfix and Courier-IMAP, and it seems to work fine except for one thing: deliver creates some dovecot.* index files that Courier never uses (and I assume deliver doesn't need them) Is there a way to prevent that? Thanks, Martin

Why does dovecot confuse mutt?
Heylas, I just switched my primary mail server from courier imap to dovecot (I've been waiting to do this; dovecot showed up in debian testing for alpha, at last). So, using the same set of maildirs, there are slightly different behaviors. First, of course, dovecot displays the hierarchy as I thought it ought to be, such that INBOX is a sibling of all other top-level boxes, not the parent

Automatically deleting Trash a la Courier
Timo Sirainen writes: > #expire = Trash 7 Spam 30 Does the above mean one will be able to indicate multiple folders to expire? That is great! Any thoughts on having a per mailbox setting? For ISPs , one may want to give users the option to enable/disable the feature and perhaps give them a choice of dates.. ie Trash 7 days or 30 days. Spam 1 day or 7 days.

transferring imap folders
I have some old mail on courier-imap that I'd like to bring over some of the readme says I need to make Dovecot's inbox as "INBOX" not "Inbox" for courier-imap compatibility.. that seems to be already default, no ? also, my INBOX is mainly like 'sent/year/month' and some other 'work/this' subfolders is there a tool I need to use, or should just copy

Migration from Courier to dovecot
hi list, I've just registered to the list, so please be tolerant ;) I'm currently in the process of planning the migration from courier to dovecot as POP/IMAP-Server. I'm migration from Courier 0.58 (Debian-Etch-packages) to Dovecot 1.1.13 (Debian Lenny Backport). The conversion of the Mailbox from Courier to Dovecot will be done with "courier-dovecot-migrate.pl"-script[1],

Dovecot performance under high load (vs. Courier)
Hi, We are building a new system that will support a large number of users (high volume, high concurrent usage, etc).? We have played with Dovecot, but in most serious applications we have traditionally used Courier IMAP.? It's my (lay) understanding that with indexing and perhaps other things in Dovecot, it might perform better than Courier in larger environments like this.? Am I correct or

Dovecot / FreeBSD / Nfs mailstore / Index=memory
Hello, I have recently changed imap from Courier-imap to dovecot because of serial problems with courier-imap, I have being forced to do it very quickly... and without extensives tests. I have 3 mails servers (freebsd based) behind a load balancer and a nfs mailstore on a netapp. On my first tests I have setup the index into some nfs shared mount, but it seems that some imap clients are

Track when user last checked mail
First off I've just got to say thanks. We just upgraded from UW to Dovecot migrating from mbox to maildir. Wow, what a difference! Load average used to hang around 5.0 during business hours and could get up to 20+ on a bad day. Now we rarely break 1.0! I'm wondering if there's a way to keep track of the last time a user checked their email and whether they checked it using POP or
