raid5 or raid6 level cluster
Hello, ?s there anyway to create raid6 or raid5 level glusterfs installation ? >From docs I undetstood that I can do raid1 base glusterfs installation or radi0 (strapting data too all servers ) and raid10 based solution but raid10 based solution is not cost effective because need too much server. Do you have a plan for keep one or two server as a parity for whole glusterfs system

The state of btrfs RAID6 as of kernel 3.13-rc1
Hi What is the general state of btrfs RAID6 as of kernel 3.13-rc1 and the latest btrfs tools? More specifically: - Is it able to correct errors during scrubs? - Is it able to transparently handle disk failures without downtime? - Is it possible to convert btrfs RAID10 to RAID6 without recreating the fs? - Is it possible to add/remove drives to a RAID6 array? Regards, Hans-Kristian -- To

OT - small hd recommendation
A little OT - but I've seen a few opinions voiced here by various admins and I'd like to benefit. Currently running a single combined server for multiple operations - fileserver, mailserver, webserver, virtual server, and whatever else pops up. Current incarnation of the machine, after the last rebuild, is an AMD Opteron 4180 with a Supermicro MB using ATI SB700 chipset - which

"Shortcut" for creating a software RAID 60?
Hello all, Testing stuff virtually over here before taking it to the physical servers. I found a shortcut for creating a software RAID 10 ("--level=10"), device in CentOS 6. Looking at the below, I don't see anything about a shortcut for RAID 60. https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/htm l/Storage_Administration_Guide/s1-raid-levels.html Is RAID

RAID[56] status
If we''ve abandoned the idea of putting the number of redundant blocks into the top bits of the type bitmask (and I hope we have), then we''re fairly much there. Current code is at: git://, http://git.infradead.org/users/dwmw2/btrfs-raid56.git git://, http://git.infradead.org/users/dwmw2/btrfs-progs-raid56.git We have recovery working, as well as both full-stripe writes

Recommendations for busy static web server replacement
Hi all after being a silent reader for some time and not very successful in getting good performance out of our test set-up, I'm finally getting to the list with questions. Right now, we are operating a web server serving out 4MB files for a distributed computing project. Data is requested from all over the world at a rate of about 650k to 800k downloads a day. Each data file is usually

Gluster infrastructure question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Heyho guys, I'm running since years glusterfs in a small environment without big problems. Now I'm going to use glusterFS for a bigger cluster but I've some questions :) Environment: * 4 Servers * 20 x 2TB HDD, each * Raidcontroller * Raid 10 * 4x bricks => Replicated, Distributed volume * Gluster 3.4 1) I'm asking me, if I can

raid6: rmw writes all the time?
Hi all, we got a new test system here and I just also tested btrfs raid6 on that. Write performance is slightly lower than hw-raid (LSI megasas) and md-raid6, but it probably would be much better than any of these two, if it wouldn''t read all the during the writes. Is this a known issue? This is with linux-3.9.2. Thanks, Bernd -- To unsubscribe from this list: send the line

40TB File System Recommendations
Hello All I have a brand spanking new 40TB Hardware Raid6 array to play around with. I am looking for recommendations for which filesystem to use. I am trying not to break this up into multiple file systems as we are going to use it for backups. Other factors is performance and reliability. CentOS 5.6 array is /dev/sdb So here is what I have tried so far reiserfs is limited to 16TB ext4

Software Raid 6
How slow and how reliable is software raid 6 on CentOS 5. The system I'm going to use is A socket 939 dual core Athlon, 4 gigs of ram and a 3ware 7506-8 controller. Its mostly going to be used for storage (Movies, MP3s etc.). Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

btrfs send & receive produces "Too many open files in system"
I believe what I am going to write is a bug report. When I finaly did # btrfs send -v /mnt/adama-docs/backups/20130101-192722 | btrfs receive /mnt/tmp/backups to migrate btrfs from one partition layout to another. After a while system keeps saying that "Too many open files in system" and denies access to almost every command line tool. When I had access to iostat I confirmed the

Samba Server Specifications
Has anyone posted an up to date hardware review lately? It seems clear that a RAID6 server with 300GB CHEETAH 15K.5 SAS drives will trump a P3 with a 30GB IDE drive, however, not everyone will spend the money required for the high end unit, I'm looking to build a new server & trying to make best use of funds (aren't we all). RAID10
Hi All, I am looking at ZFS and I get that they call it RAIDZ which is similar to RAID 5, but what about RAID 10? Isn''t a RAID 10 setup better for data protection? So if I have 8 x 1.5tb drives, wouldn''t I: - mirror drive 1 and 5 - mirror drive 2 and 6 - mirror drive 3 and 7 - mirror drive 4 and 8 Then stripe 1,2,3,4 Then stripe 5,6,7,8 How does one do this with ZFS?

Raid5 issues
So when I couldn't get the raid10 to work, I decided to do raid5. Everything installed and looked good. I left it overnight to rebuild the array, and when I came in this morning, everything was frozen. Upon reboot, it said that 2 of the 4 devices for the raid5 array failed. Luckily, I didn't have any data on it, but how do I know that the same thing won't happen when I have

Best practices for creating bricks
Hello, I am working with several Dell PE720xd. I have 24 disks per server at my disposal with a high end raid card with 1GB RAM and BBC. I will be building a distributed-replicated volume. Is it better for me to set up one or two large RAID0 arrays and use those as bricks, or should I make each hard drive a brick? This will be back end storage for an image search engine with lots of small file

Dovecot Performance Issues on VMWARE Esxi
Hello, I'm new to dovcot, but have serious issues with dovecot and IMAP. I'm struggling with low IMAP performance but have no glue, where to start my search. It is a small office setup. 10 Mailaccounts. Mine is the biggest with 4GB in size. But searching for mail takes several seconds... Zu switch to specific folder also takes some seconds. To long in my opinion. I use esxi 6.0

snoop scsi commands per device
Maybe someone can share that script with me? Full problem i''m trying to investigate - my S10u7 get I\O error when accessing LUN on EMC cx480, but only if LUN created on raid6 raid group. When I create one on raid5 or raid10 everything goes fine. -- ____________ Voropaev Pavel -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
