Hi Just one of those niggles....... I've just been trying to plot a filled circle. lm with an arbitrary number of terms
Hello folks, Any ideas how to do this? data.frame is a data frame with column names "x1",...,"xn" y is a response variable of length dim(data.frame)[1] I want to write a function function(y, data.frame){ lm(y~x1+...+xn) } This would be easy if n was always the same. If n is arbitrary how could I feed the x1+...+xn terms into lm(response~terms)? Thanks Richard -- Dr.

Why are looping variables not local?
Hello, I've had a quick look on the list and can't find an answer to this niggle. Whilst debugging some code, I noticed that looping variables in R are not local to the loop as seams common in procedural languages. For example consider the following piece of code: for(i in 1:3){ cat(i,"") for(i in c("a","b","c")){ cat(i,"")

Defining own variance function / quasi-likelihood in a GLM
Hello, I've been looking in the on-line manuals and searching past posts but can't find an answer to this question. I'd like to define my own variance function in a GLM. The function glm(formula, family=quasi(var="var function")) lets me choose from a selection of built in variances, but I want to define my own function for the variance. Is there an S-plus

Extracting only odd columns from a matrix
Hi, This might seem like a simple question but at the moment I am stuck for ideas. The columns of my matrix in which some data is stored are of this form: X1 Y1 X2 Y2 X3 Y3 ... Xn Yn with n~100. I would like to look at just the X values (i.e. odd column numbers). Is there an easy way to loop round extracting only these columns? Any help would be appreciated.

glm() function not finding the maximum
Hello, I have found a problem with using the glm function with a gamma family. I have a vector of data, assumed to be generated by a gamma distribution. The parameters of this gamma distribution are estimated in two ways (i) using the glm() function, (ii) "by hand", using the optim() function. I find that the -2*likelihood at the maximum found by (i) is substantially larger than that

Problems with UDP frame size??
Well this has had me stumped for days now. For months I've been using tinc in TCPOnly because I always received the unknown host error when using UDP. On Monday, i set the flag IndirectData = yes in my host files, and removed the TCPOnly line. Initially, everything worked great. My throughput increased from 600KB/sec to 2MB/sec between the sites. However, I also did some testing with

save cpu !
Hello everybody ! I have just installed Wine. I have test it with several programs and I find it is wonderfull ! When I am running MSWLogo (a Logo environment) on Wine, it eats all my CPU. The problem is not very important if I start one session, but if I start several sessions, it becomes a real problem. In our school we have a big Linux server and 24 x-terms ...
