system sounds
Hello, I am using 'Centos 7.8.2003 (Core)' and after an update, a week or two ago, all system sounds seemed to have stopped working. Sound in firefox still works, and also rhythmbox seems to play music files, VLC player do too. It seems that? just things like notifications etc are not woring anymore. Also, the "test speakers" in the sound setup doesn't seem to

Samba Over A Wan
Hi All, I have a customer that I need to give access to one of our servers over a WAN. Their box is running some windows server version and they use terminal services to let their employees access their applications. We use Samba in or local office environment where it works quite well. I need to know the following: 1) Will Samba work over the internet? 2) Can Samba connections be encrypted or

Does anyone use tcp wrappers (hosts.allow/hosts.deny) anymore?
Does anyone use tcp wrappers (hosts.allow/hosts.deny) anymore? And, would you care strongly if it went away (or would you just migrate to something else)? I bring this up because we are discussing dropping it from Fedora. This would be far enough in the future that it wouldn't impact RHEL 7, and therefore won't affect anyone here for Quite Some Time*, but here in the new world order of

system sounds
been playing around a bit and noticed: When I login as root, gnome,? all the system sounds seem to be working. When I log in as a regelur user,? the system sounds do't.? So I guess it must be a permissions issue somewhere that happened during/after the last update? any ideas? thanks, Ron On 10/10/20 12:03 PM, R C wrote: > Hello, > > > I am using 'Centos 7.8.2003

Slow performance with Win95 client
Hi I am new to this list, but I have been having problems with samba for some time now. Here is the problem When my Win95 clients access the samba server I get real slow transfers, even if I only have one client accessing the server. It transfers at like 70k/s to 150k/s, and the collision lights on the hub start going crazy. even for 10 megabit networking, this is rather slow. (it takes like 3

why does automounting removable media always have options nodev, noexec, nosuid?
i'm experimenting with some basic removable media mounting exercises for an upcoming class, and i read that, while you can use gconf-editor to change some of the mount options in cases like that, there is no way to override the mount options of nodev, noexec and nosuid. for example, that claim is made here (admittedly for fedora, but it appears to be true for centos as well):

ldap support
hi, it seem to me that dovecot support only v2 ldap protocol but openldap2.1 support only v3 (or you can enable v2 in the conf file, but it seems they wouldn't like to support it in the future). will dovecot support v3 ldap protocal? thanks. -- Levente "Si vis pacem para bellum!"

rsa_public_encrypt() exponent too small or not odd
I am attempting to deploy OpenSSH. The trouble is I keep getting the rsa_public_encrypt() exponent too small or not odd with the SSH 1 or 1.5 protocols. I can't get OpenSSH to communicate with itself with any protocal other than SSH 2. Platform notes: HP-UX 11.00 Dart 51 64bit OpenSSL 0.9.6 Zlib 1.1.3 Cflags: -Ae I have tried with and without optimizations. I noticed that this problem

Removing ALL security from samba. :)
Hi, I've got samba running on multiple machines, blah blah works great... On my new fax server (RH7.2) I want any windows user to be able to connect using any username/password. I got it to work with the nobody/pc guest accounts, but that defeats the purpose (I need to see their windows/default username). Basically you connect to the fake samba shared printer, and the script mails a URL
