Dovecot Authentication to Windows Domain Controller
Hey Guys,
I am trying to convince my co-workers to move from Exchange 2003 to a unix
implementation of sendmai/dovecot. They have a couple of concerns that I am
sure can be resolved. First, is there a way for dovecot running on a linux
server to authenticate a user to a windows 2003 domain controller? If so,
then where can I get information on how to implement and test this feature?
Also, do

Ampersand in Folder names causing folders to disappear?
Hi All,
Dovecot 1.0.rc7
Not sure if this is a problem with Outlook, or with Dovecot, or to do
with encoding in Linux.
Whenever a user enters an ampersand into an IMAP folder name, it
dissapears from outlook. These folders appear on the ext3 filesystem as
&- for example
drwx------ 5 mailusers mailusers 4096 2006-10-10 17:54 .INBOX.Networks.London Networks.NDCs.WH&-P joint working

test53 and signal 11 errors
I installed test53 tonight, and I've begun to see the following error
in my maillog every time I attempt to retrieve mail from an imap
client:
dovecot: child 46128 (imap) killed with signal 11
I built from source on FreeBSD 4.9 with the following:
./configure --with-mysql --with-storages=maildir --with-ssl=openssl
A little bit of Googling seems to indicate that this is a hardware

1.0-test56
http://dovecot.org/test/
- Lots of fixes for mmap_disable = yes. It finally seems to be working
pretty well.
- POP3 idle timeouts changed to 10min
I just wrote a simple stress test tool for IMAP and I've had one for
POP3 for some months. The IMAP stress test was very helpful in finding
out the bugs I fixed today. If anyone wants to try them, they're in:

Bug: ThunderBird and dovecot 1rc1
Hello!
It seems to me that correct deletion of message in thunderbird still
doesn't work with ThanderBird and dovectot 1rc1. As I've said before
messages are not removed phisically from filesystem, just marked for
deletetion. Though I'm not sure that this is dovecot bug and not
ThunderBird. Anyone to clarify this issue ?

1.0.rc28 / v1.0 plans
I'll probably release 1.0.rc28 in a few days. Would be nice to get some
testing for it first. http://dovecot.org/nightly/dovecot-latest.tar.gz
contains pretty much what it's supposed to be.
I've now replied to all the mails I was planning on replying, excluding
the few patches that are v1.1 material. If you think I forgot to reply
to some mail, please resend it.
I think the

dovecot-lda and vpopmail
I'm setting up a new box with Dovecot 1.0 beta1 and vpopmail. Normal
operations works like a charm, i.e. vpopmail virtual can log in
sucessfully using TLS.
However, when trying to test dovecot-lda out of CVS, it is not locating
the user:
> *** Starting dovecot-imapd service...
> dovecot: Info: Dovecot v1.0.beta1 starting up
> dovecot: Info: auth(default): master in: USER 1

Deliverm, vpopmail, and valias
I'm in the final stages of testing my e-mail server to come and I seem
to have hit a roadblock.
One option of current vpopmail is to store all aliases in a valias
table, that looks like this:
+-------------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra |
+-------------+----------+------+-----+---------+-------+
| alias | char(32) |

Case sensitive nightmare
It took me 4 days to figure this out and I sure hope someone can help me
solve it.
My Setup: Postfix + MySQL + dovecot
dovecot.conf:
default_mail_env = maildir:/var/spool/vmail/%d/%n/Maildir
password_query = SELECT password FROM mailbox WHERE username='%u'
user_query = SELECT maildir, 108 AS uid, 108 AS gid FROM mailbox WHERE
username='%u'

Sorry for not answering any questions for past two weeks, I'll try to
get around answering them in next few days.
I've also been thinking about if I should switch from CVS to Darcs. It
seems to be exactly the kind of reversion control tool I had wanted to
use. Anyone have comments for or against it? I'd still have read-only

Migrating from mbox to maildir: Message ordering?
Hi, all.
I have been playing with the notion of migrating some of my folders to
maildir because it's a lot easier to manage that way from a reader
standpoint. The big question I have is how do I maintain message
ordering in each folder?
When I use a mail program to do the migration from mbox to maildir,
selecting "order received ascending", it works nicely, but one very

Lost messages with Mozilla and dovecot 0.99.x
I have just moved our corporate e-mail over to qmail/dovecot and am very
happy with the performance. However, I have had two reports of messages
going missing which may or may not be directly related to Dovecot.
I was able to observe this in action this morning:
1) I got the user out of their e-mail client (Mozilla 1.7.2) and forced
an email to be delivered. It showed up in Maildir/new.

MANAGESIEVE patch v2
Hello Timo,
Dispite the heat out here, I managed to come up with a new version of
the managesieve patch for dovecot-1.0rc2:
- Fixed the bug (missing CRLF) in the authenticate command
- Modified the sieve storage library making the interface much less crude.
- The scripts put on the server using the putscript command are now
checked before they are accepted.
- The reported SIEVE capability is

Speed up large maildirs
Hi,
I'm very fond of maildirs, they are simple, I like that.
But I've never really understood the significance of maildir/new/. The only use I can see is
that (for example in the case of dovecot), you'd move a message from new to cur and then
update the index-file, that's it.
So to make put it more direct, you'd know when and with what to update the index-file, based

mysql
Hello,
Does dovecot require mysql in order to work? Fedora rpms are claiming
mysql dependencies.
I'm sure you're aware of the long-lived arguement of postgresql v. mysql.
If it wasn't your intention to force this, then please snarl at Red Hat.
If it was your intention, then grrrrr!
Thanks for this product. I like it for it's speed and stability.
