help for static user
Hi everybody,
I have been long (for 2 days) trying, but I really need some help.
I would like to use virtual static users.
I configured my file as indicated in the documentation and then I
created the following directory, with the needed rights (mail account)
and leave them empty :
/var/mail/virtual/<mon_domaine>.fr/toto/
I am not sure that it is the good method, but I understand it

IMAP folders missing after migrating to Dovecot
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hello all,
I'm migrating to Dovecot from Courier-IMAP. I use Postfix with Maildir
for delivery.
When I use Dovecot as the IMAP server all of my folders are missing, the
only thing that remains is the Inbox folder.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? I have enclosed my configuration.
Thanks,
Chris

new mails don't always show
Hi,
I am having some trouble with dovecot (0.99.14) and maildir. Some users
are reporting that sometimes, they don't get (pop3, various clients) new
mails for a while even though they should.
I checked and confirmed this: mails were delivered by MTA (sendmail,
procmail). But when the problem existed, the new mails were in cur/, not
new/ and dovecot would not report any new messaged to the

beta8: core, signal 11
Timo,
The gdb analysis is attached. It looks like memory got seriously
stomped in this core dump. There was no assert or other useful
information in the syslog. My setup: Solaris 9, imap and imaps,
mbox format, INBOXes NFS mounted, index files on local ufs
filesystem, beta8 configured like so:
VERSION=1.0.beta8
CC=gcc CFLAGS="-g -O" CPPFLAGS=-I/opt/openssl/include

SSL errors
I have a Dovecot server set up as a proxy and getting a ton of these errors, but I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting it. I'm hearing frequently that Outlook users who use IMAP with SSL are getting disconnected often as a result. Any suggestions?...

Mails don't get deleted after POP3
Hi, there!
Well, I am new to dovecot, so please be patient with me:
I have a virtual server and want to setup simple mail delivery.
postfix, saslauthd and dovecot basically work fine.
The only open issue is, that (I guess) dovecot doesn't remove the
mail when it's retrieved via pop3 from the server.
It keeps sending me the same emails again and again.
(The mail client (Thunderbird) is

login_* options for 1.0.15
Hello all,
Although i'm aware that version 1.0.15 is rather old, that's what is
used in Lenny, so...
Either way, the setup is rather simple, regular dovecot install, with
maildirs residing on a "local" ext3 filesystem accessed through FC to a
SAN (2Gbps link). The server has 2 cores (with HT), so "almost" 4 cores
and 3GB of ram.
A couple weeks ago we had a major

Config questionsabout various login parms
I'm currently runing UW-IMAP (compiled vanilla) with procmail and mbox
and am making my usual careful crawl (at turtle speed) through figuring
out DC config. Some questions:
a) I have something like 3-4 root imapd sessions so I presume that the
default *login_processes_count* = 3 will be OK. I'm less clear about
login_max_processes_count and login_max_connections = 256. A common

problem in rc15 (proxy mode)
Hi,
I have test dovecot on one of my pop3/imap proxies (from rc10 to rc15).
I immediately get a lot of error messages like this one :
Nov 27 15:10:45 mproxy1 dovecot: pop3-login: file client.c: line 423 (client_unref): assertion failed: (client->destroyed)
Nov 27 15:10:45 mproxy1 dovecot: child 21677 (login) killed with signal 6
A lot means one every 2 or 3 seconds.
Any suggestion ?

Sizing login_process_size and login_processes_count?
Any suggestions on sizing login_process_size and login_processes_count for a
server expected to be doing 100 to 200 simultaneous connections?
Is there a way to separate login_processes_count between imap and pop? I
would like to have at least 50 imap processes ready, but we rarely have any
more than 5 to 10 pop connections. Would be a shame to have 40+ pop
login processes doing nothing most

1.1.beta8 crashes with segfault when SIGHUP
Hello,
dovecot crashes when it receives -HUP signal. It happens always if there was
some activity - for example, if I start dovecot, check any account through
POP3 and then send -HUP to dovecot process, it crashes with the following log
entry:
segfault at 00000008 eip 0804d3fb esp bfdd3860 error 4
If there were no activity at all since starting, it does not crash.

imaptest10 and stalled messages
Greetings -
I've now got as far as playing with the imaptest10 test utility to
see if I can stress-test our development server. imaptest10 is built
against dovecot-1.0rc28
It may just be that I'm excessively heavy handed, but when I let
imaptest10 rip with the command...
./imaptest10 user=test%03d host=testserver.imap.york.ac.uk clients=50
mbox=./dovecot.mbox msgs=1000 secs=30

Dovecot broken with newer OpenSSL
After updating my system from OpenSSL 0.9.8j to 0.9.8k Dovecot has
stopped functioning properly with TLS sessions. The version of Dovecot
does not seem to matter as I tried 1.1.11 - 1.1.14. Other programs using
SSL/TLS such as Postfix and lightty still work fine when built with the newer
release of OpenSSL. The IMAP client doesn't matter. For the time being I
have gone back to .13 linked

New installation - error 89 on connect
I've recently installed dovecot (0.99.8.1) from the Debian/woody
backport at 'deb http://src.braincells.com/debian woody/'
Previously, all mail have been delivered to mbox'es in ~/Mail by
exim/procmail -- ~/Mail/inbox being my main mailbox.
Whenever I attempt to connect with an IMAP client, the connection is
closed and the following error is reported in /var/log/syslog:

what exactly does outlook-idle workaround?
Hi,
Can anyone tell me what the 'client_workarounds = outlook-idle' directive
exactly does? I have enabled it in my /etc/dovecot.conf, but the problem
that I think it should solve still exsits. That is that after being IDLE
for more than half an hour Dovecot will disconnect Outlook but Outlook
never connects back. Therefore users receive new mail, but they don't get
notified unless
