auto move of purged mail to trash
I am moving a courier installation over to Dovecot and I am wondering if there is a way to set Dovecot to automatically move purged items to trash (under IMAP). Additionally, is there a way to automatically delete old items from a Trash folder? -David

Marking all emails in "Trash" as opened, and also prohibiting email clients from creating new mails
Someone just told me about imapsieve. Sieve rules for folders. I assume that could solve your issue. https://wiki.dovecot.org/HowTo/AntispamWithSieve -----Original Message----- Sent: 09 May 2020 17:32 To: dovecot at dovecot.org Subject: Marking all emails in "Trash" as opened, and also prohibiting email clients from creating new mails Dovecot version: 2.3.7.2 (3c910f64b) (pkg

exclude a folder for lazy expunge (move to trash)
Hello, I'm configuring lazy expunge plugin to act as a kind of backup of my user's emails. I'm getting a little problem because a lot of my users use "move to trash" behaviour in their email client (most of them are using thunderbird which has no option to hide deleted messages and is a hassle working with mark as deleted with it). The problem combining move to trash

Marking all emails in "Trash" as opened, and also prohibiting email clients from creating new mails
Dovecot version: 2.3.7.2 (3c910f64b) (pkg shipped by: Ubuntu-Desktop 20.04) I want to accomplish 2 things in dovecot: 1: I want to force all mails inside Trash to have an "opened"/"read" flag and "Non-Recent" flag. Basically Status: RO This regardless how the flag appears, either by copying/moving the mail into trash, creating a new mail in trash, flagging email in

Network Trash Folder - how to do it?
Hello,I saw on Apple mashines connected to AppleShare Server that they had something called 'Network Trash Folder'. That is if some is working on a server volume and deletes a file from the volume, the file appears in user's Trash on his Desktop (but?it is really placed on the server in volume's special folder called 'Network Trash Folder'). So he can restore the file if he

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
You can use mdbox_deleted driver to access mails with refcount 0. Disk space usage with mdbox
Why things happen is one of the great mysteries and joys of being a sysadmin... As for cleaning up SIS, I believe the "doveadm purge" command takes care of it. I have a daily cronjob which includes: #!/bin/sh # Permanently expunge old Trash doveadm expunge -A mailbox Trash savedbefore 2w # Optimize mdbox storage doveadm purge -A # Update fts indexes doveadm fts rescan -A -- Daniel

Trash plugin unexpected results
Trash plugin won't delete messages from your folders if the deletion would not give enough space to start with, and in your case removing the attachment would have still left the user over quota, so trash plugin did not take action. Oct 07 17:33:13 lmtp(31543, 123 at testdo.com): Debug: trash plugin: Failed to remove enough messages (needed 17035766 bytes, expunged only 16803594 bytes) Aki

lazy_expuge + mdbox
To a degree I agree .. given mdbox doesnt delete until purge .. but then would be nice if purge took a dovecot search rather than just ditch everything with refcount=0 ... in that way could say purge everything thats been marked as delete according to a specified criteria. rgds Matt completly unrelated moved mailserver back home and listed on cyren so atm getting bounced by dovecot.fi .. have

Establing a GMail like workflow
Hello! I'm about to migrate my mails from GMail back to my self hosted solution, using Dovecot imap server. I really liked gmail workflow: - (Almost) all mail goes to inbox. - Most mail is read and not important anymore, it is archived and moved to "all messages". - Inbox stays more or less clean, with only mails that are still of some interest. - Mail (except Spam) is never

Trash plugin unexpected results
Just wondering if anyone has seen this behavior or if there are some documents that would let me know the limitations of the trash plugin.? I don't think I'll be commonly using accounts with 30 MB quotas, but I feel like the trash plugin should account for the whole quota. Any help is appreciated. Does indeed sound bit strange, will have to try replicate this to see what happens. Deleted mails in dsync backups
Hello we are doing regular backups of the mdbox mail folders using dsync -u username backup mdbox:/somedir/BACKUPS/username (still with version 2.1.10, but 2.2.5 is in testing phase) We do observe that the directory size in the BACKUPS directory is growing with respect to the original mail folders. I believe this is due to deleted mails not being purged in the backup. We are doing regular

More efficient Deleting of a whole folder (or Purging Trash)
Hi, I've straced a few dovecot processes after hitting purge on a large Trash folder (35,000 messages). It looks like it is going through each message, one by one, and removing (unlinking) each one. Is there not a more efficient way to do this? If Dovecot knows the whole folder is being deleted (ie a Trash purge), could it do something clever with the filesystem to just remove the whole

Quota and Trash
Hi, I finally got a grip on our mail guys to try out Dovecot after they started migrating a ~15k user mailsystem to Maildir+NFS (Netapp)+Courier and the performance was not as good as expected. So far the results are impressive, although there are of course a few small issues to be solved. One is the current Quota handling, which they use with Courier IMAP and (still) think it needs to be

Recovering expunged but not purged e-mails from mdbox with zlib compression
Yesterday I had to recover an e-mail which a user had deleted. If I understand this correctly the message was expunged but not purged (doveadm purge had not been run). This e-mail was clearly still in the mdbox stored with zlib compression as I could tell using the doveadm dump command (doveadm dump -t dbox filename). I could however not reveal the e-mail with the normal doveadm fetch -u
