dovecot Buch 2014 vs 2016
Moin,

Migration from tpop3d to dovecot - troubles galore!
Hi people,
I am trying to migrate some users from tpop3d (Maildir mailboxes) to
dovecot. The most important aspect of this migration, and which I
cannot seem to get right, is to first be able to make dovecot to
authenticate against the current DB being used by tpop3d so that
I can use imapsync to transfer the user mails. And I do believe
that is what I am unable to get right!!
So here goes what

Ubuntu und R
Hallo Zusammen,
hatte gestern die Schnauze voll von Vista und habe mir daraufhin Ubuntu
installiert. Bin also mit Ubuntu ?berhaupt nicht vertraut.
Nun habe ich ohne Erfolg versucht, R zu installieren.
Soweit ich der Anleitung folgen konnte habe ich es so wie auf
http://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/R gemacht.
Im Terminal kann ich R problemlos starten.

Weird DISKS behaviour on 4.8-STABLE
Hello people,
I have been experiencing a weird problem with 4.8-STABLE for a long time.
I was ignoring it, thinking that it was a problem with the SCSI disks or
perhaps the contoller. I changed the disks from the original Intel box
to a Compaq box and I still noticed the problem was there.
What happened is that all of a sudden, the disk would 'fill' up with
nothing! Yes, that's true.

1.0rc7 - dumb question
I am configuring dovecot 1.0rc7 to authenticate users (system users)
in /etc/passwd.
Is it possible to use a different auth mechanism, other than "plain",
when the encrypted password is in /etc/master.passwd (BSD style)?

Multiple authentication databases and storage locations
Hello Everyone,
I am playing with the $subject matter using 1.0alpha4, and thanks to the
archives, I lifted this one from Alexander Shikoff off and used it in my
setup.

BZIP2 Support in the Base system
The FreeBSD 4.x (4.8-STABLE) has contributed sources for BZIP2 in the base system
under /usr/src/contrib/bzip2.
My problem is that I am not succeeding in building these sources for some strange
reason. Some apps that I run would do well if I could get to install these success-
fully.
If there is anyone has succeeded, I'd highly appreciate the steps they went through
to get bzip2 to build.

Dovecot hung or what?
Here is my first major problem with dovecot. I am running rc15 on
FreeBSD 6.1. I run dovecot supervised by DJB's daemontools.
I run only the pop3 service.
A colleague informed me that pop3 service was simply not responding.
They could not rcv mail. When I checked the server, tail-ing
dovecot.log, here is what was scrolling:

Migrating from courier-imap to dovecot
Hello Gang,
I am new to dovecot and the only reason (so far) I would like to use
dovecot, and in production with 12k+ users, is the fact that it's
supposed to be faster and less of a resource hog.
Now, sometimes I am really good at reading the documentations but it
sometimes happens that one overlooks something. I did read the migration
notes three times!
My users are in /etc/passwd and I

Rsync on Mac OS X
Hello,
I am using rsync at Mac OS X for synchronizing
pictures for our two offices. Unfortunatelly yesterday
the script stops working. Here is little workarround.
The script select every file from folder A and write
it to PENDING-FILES file. Than RSYNC take from
PENDING-FILES every line (file) and transfer to folder
B on different machine. Unfortunately some Mac user

dovecot with Calendar or Contacts?
When I attempted to import my Contacts list into dovecot, my mail
client told me that the IMAP server did not support "Special" folders.
Is there a way to to do the contacts, or sync up Contacts & Calendar from a
database or something else?
I'm using both Thunderbird and Outlook.
Thanks.

(no subject)
I have a rather complex access setup for my users home-directories. This is
because
a) All users have to be able to read other users files (minus some private
folders)
b) Some users additionally have write access to specific (not: all!)
home-directories
So a user Joe also has a group called 'Joe' with members Joe, Tim and Kate.
Hence, Joe, Tim and Kate may write to /home/joe. I do this

full back up is the best way to do backups. I know with my
fileserver i do weekly full backup and daily incremental which would

how do you guys backup Maildir? whats the best way of doing it?

Real and Virtual Users + Domains
I have seen a few suggestions on how to address the issue of a system
employing both real and virtual users and domains. Is there any
definitive solution as to how this should be accomplished? The system I
am construction will have several hundred users, both real and virtual,
and probably seven domains. I plan on using MySQL to handle the user
names and passwords.
