Virtual users, local delivery via LDA and LDAP troubles
We're investigating the possibiliy to migrate our mail system from
Sendmail+Cyrus to Sendmail+Dovecot.
The system must use authentication against Windows AD (supposedly using
LDAP) and must use virtual hosting.
So far we managed to work around a bug reported in [1], and IMAP/POP3
authentication on LDAP works OK.
LDAP auth is set up using binds (Cyrus and Ejabberd authenticate against

Virtual Users and permission denied on POP3 Authentication - cur directory
Hi,
I've been working on configuring a new Postfix+Dovecot+Cyrus-SASL
+Postgres server to perform multi-domain virtual hosting with non-unix
accounts. I believe I have everything working correctly and have
tested both the SASL portion and POP authentication through telnet and
all works as expected, with one exception.
When I authenticate using POP3:
# telnet mail.host 110

Hi,
im in the process of setting up a virtual domain next to a real one with dovecot and postfix.
Looks like postfix sends the mail to deliver:

but dovecot doesnt know my user:

dovecot virtual user 'unknown'...
Hi
I have a problem whereby Dovecot 1.0.7 is reporting that a recently setup
virtual user in /etc/dovecot_passdb is 'unknown'. I have been trying to
setup the user 'info' in a plaintext passwd-file /etc/dovecot_passdb as a
virtual user, ie non system user. I suspect I have not properly setup
'info' as a virtual imap user... if so, how should I do this?

Nee assistance with migrating/copying a virtual user's maildir to another virtual user
Hello,
I am trying to move/copy a virtual user's maildir to another virtual user
but am running into problems with dsync and doveadm. I'm trying to move the
maildir of a user who is no longer with the company to a manager's maildir.
For doveadm I am using the command:
doveadm move -u scavenaugh at lamontanita.coop
jhenning at lamontanita.coop/INBOX/scavenaugh INBOX ALL

Active Directory 2003 user database and passwords with special characters
Hello everybody,
As explained in the topic, i have troubles with authentication of my users.
First of all, sorry for my poor english...
I'm running dovecot v1.2.15 on a Debian 6 64bits server up to date.
My users database is an Active Directory 2003 (it's important to know that because Active Directory can't retrieve users passwords, you have to bind LDAP with a domain administrator).

imap+unix users and pop3+virtual users
This should be simple, but I'm missing something. My virtual
users cannot access their mail.
I would like Unix users to get their mail via imap which is
deposited in /var/spool/mail/username. (This works.)
I would like virtual users to get their mail via pop3 which is
deposited in /var/spool/mail/vhosts/example.com/auser/mail/inbox
(postfix does in fact put the mail there). Those users

Howto create maildir in lower case while user login via imap/pop3?
Hi, all.
I searched mail archives, but no result.
I use OutLook Express on Windows XP as MUA, login username is in upper case,
such as 'AAA at BBB.COM', when login via imap, dovecot create directories:
/home/vmail/
|- BBB.COM/ # <- Domain name
|- AAA/ # <- User name
|- cur/
|- xxx
Here, domain name and user name

Dovecot 2 LDAP "unknown user"
I finally managed to get this going but I have noticed in my case that:
1. I need to make sure the user logon name in AD and the samAccountname are
exactly the same, case and all. It seems postfix
uses the samAccountname and Dovecot the User logon name.
2. I also noticed that if the Display name for a user in AD is blank, that
user cannot log in using telnet <server ip> 110.
I am quite

Post-login script with LDAP virtual users
Dear sirs,
I'm working on Post-login script for migrating 40K Courier-imap users to
Dovecot.
After reading related topics about post-login script in your
documentation, mailing list, I cannot remove the problem described
here-below.
Is there any special config to add when users are virtual
(authentication and user info is fed by LDAP server).
I would be grad if anyone could give me advise.

How to use dovecot only as POP3 server / prevent it from creating .imap directories?
Dear all,
on our mail server, I let sendmail deliver incoming messages to a file in mbox format called "inbox" in each user's home directory. Now I would like to use dovecot as POP3 server so that users can let their MUA download their messages via POP3. I do not want to use any IMAP functionality.
The POP3 part works with the configuration shown below, but nevertheless there is a

Thanks for your reply again Steffen.
The command doveadm user -u username successfully returns the username and
any information it can for the user in AD. As a matter of fact, I entered
some home directory information in AD and this command returned the User's
Home Directory as well. Is it a problem though that the telnet test won't
work?

Problem with managesieve (and virtual users?)
Hello,
I use the debian packages from http://xi.rename-it.nl/debian/
version 1.1.7-0~auto+17
If I put a sieve script into /home/vmail/sieve-scripts/test.de/test.sieve
it is used, so cmusieve works.
But if I activate managesieve I get in the log:
dovecot: 2008-12-14 21:24:49 Fatal: managesieve-login: USER environment missing
dovecot: 2008-12-14 21:24:49 Error: managesieve-login: BYE

For Configuration Help: per-user quota for virtual users.
Dear dovecot list:
Could any experts help me on the configuration of per-user for dovecot on
FreeBSD 7.x with postfix-2.5.4,1.
I followed the howto of http://workaround.org/articles/ispmail-etch/, it
is an excellent file, my mailserver worked very well.
When I configured per-user quota plug-in, quota_rule with 20MB limits can
not be overrided by the Mysql query statement, Although I followed

Hi All
I am using Dovecot dovecot2-2.2.25_6 on FreeBSD 11. I am trying to set up
LDAP authentication to Active Director as I had it in version 1 of Dovecot.
My settings are at bottom. When I run doveadm auth test username, I get
back

LDA, postfix and multiple virtual users : postfix is still the MDA
Hi,
I have some trouble to use dovecot as MDA. I followed the instructions
in http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA and http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA/Postfix
I have multiple virtual users, stored in a LDAP server, and it look like
postfix is still delivering the mails directly to the maildirs.
Dovecot version : 1.2.15 (using the 1:1.2.15-4 squeeze packets)
postfix version : 2.7.1 (using the 2.7.1-1
