Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
Hi Aki,

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1 (fwd)
Hi Aki,
I am not 100% sure. I do not really know what my OS does. "ps -A" says
dovecot is running, but if I say "sudo service dovecot stop", my email
client works fine still (that is, assuming the old version of dovecot is
installed). ie the on-demand instances of dovecot-imapd that Alpine calls
are, I assume, started and stopped by Alpine. (?)
Is my OS using dovecot

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1 (fwd)
Hi Aki,
Bingo! Putting that line in dovecot.conf rather than my custom file, and
then using my old custom file, unchanged, from Alpine works perfectly.
My only remaining question, then, would be ... what was this (change)
about / or is there any documentation that I should/could have read to
know what to do without asking a lead developer?
Thank you very much.
I hope you had a great start

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
Hello Stephan,
I'm interested to see this get fixed (and ideally one day for it to be
really easy for people to set up Alpine so that it competes fairly with
heavier GUIs!), but I do not know that I am qualified to help (beyond
light testing). Is there someone from Alpine on this thread? The second
(askubuntu.com) link you give is my own question (and answer, based on Aki

hide dotfiles not working.
Just started with Samba a few weeks ago so am
still a newbie. Am serving a single W-95 client
reasonably well - it allows users to log on using
their unix id and passwd, and they can all browse
their unix home directories. However ....
I can't seem to get the "hide dotfiles" directive to work.
Nor the "hide files"!
Also, If a user on W-95 saves a file to unix called,

rsync followup - what did I run?
Many people have wondered what my rsync syntax was -
[as root]: rsync -av /path/to/source me at remote-host:/path/to/dest
I'll be adjusting it to adapt to perform incrementals, probably with --update.
So, just need to learn why some of the .dotfiles, and other unknown
files (unless I ran a diff) didn't successfully copy over.
Thanks.

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
Hi Aki,
Yes, the same connect error: imap(meuser,)Error: net_connect_unix(/var/run/dovecot/stats-writer) failed: Permission denied
The mail location in "doveconf -n" (belo) does not reflect my preferences.
In Alpine, if I acknowledge the error I get, which tells me to add
novalidate-cert in my pinerc file, it prompts me for my POSIX username and
password. After that, I get my

mbox bug in 1.0.0
Hi folks. We're moving users from rc24 and 27 to 1.0.0. On four mailboxes
so far we've seen these errors after the move (quick and dirty anonymizing

bad move? - complex form with *many* observe_field's
I have a pretty complex form with many text fields and a number of
selects. We let the user add multiple types of associated objects to
the parent object and to edit the values for those associated objs, so
the form can have something like the following number of fields on the
page:
9 text fields + 3 selects + a*(1 text + 1 select) + b*(1 text + 1
select) + c*(1 text + 1 select) + d*(1 text +

Hierarchical Diagram of Networks in sna or otherwise?
I've been using sna to work with some networks, and am trying to visualize
them easily. My networks are hierarchical (food webs). All of the layout
engines I've tried with gplot don't seem to plot hierarchical networks, as
one would using dot from graphviz. While I could do all of this by
outputting to dotfiles and running it through graphviz, the graphics I get
from R are much

Problems converting to maildir with dsync in 2.0.6
I'm trying to convert from an old Dovecot (1.0.15) and mbox to a new
Dovecot and maildir. I'm running into several problems with dsync which
are causing my mboxes not to convert.
If I use LAYOUT=fs (as I'd prefer) I get an error because I have a
mailbox called "subscriptions", and none of my messages convert. Is
there a way to get dovecot to put its own metadata in

Windows editor suggestions - autosave
I am looking for advice on an editor to use with R (windows) that has an autosave feature. I typically write scripts using the RGui (and tried TinnR yesterday) but I am having continuing problems with BSODs (non R related) and have in the past have had issues with R crashes and would really like a system that does not require me to remember to hit the save button on my script every 10 minutes so

ssh-keyscan non-standard port broken
Hello,
If one passes the -p option for a non-standard port to ssh-keyscan when
using the -f option to pull hosts from a file, it results in a
known_hosts entry that is incorrect:
micah at muck$ cat /tmp/try
199.254.238.47 micah.riseup.net,199.254.238.47
ssh-keyscan -t rsa -p 4422 -f /tmp/try > /tmp/known
micah at muck$ cat /tmp/known

Localhost imap server fails after upgrade from 2.2.33.2-1 to 1:2.3.2.1
I use a localhost dovecot imap server in order to access maildir folders from Alpine (see 2009 instructions for my set up here
https://cpbl.wordpress.com/2009/11/07/alpine-offlineimap-and-gmail-under-ubuntu/ )
My configuration has worked nicely since 2009, but failed after a recent upgrade of dovecot (during basic upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to 18.10).
The version of Alpine did not change.

Shouldn't rxml files be exempt from layout by default?
RJS templates are the only template type that are exempt from layout
by default.
Don''t you think it makes sense to add rxml to the list of exempt
extensions? I''d assume most people would be surprised to see their
XML embedded in the middle of their (most probably) rhtml layout.

Is it possible to conditionally replace a file ?
As far as I can tell, the "replace" parameter is all or nothing.
What I am looking for is something like the exec/onlyif parameter that I can use to conditionally replace a file.
Any thoughts ?

Hi,
I'm using Dovecot v2.2 with unix_listener auth-client {

auth_failure_delay effects all connects going through that socket.
I mean:
connect /var/run/dovecot2.2/auth-client

Hi Aki,
Thanks. I put that in the .conf file I mentioned, and it made no
difference.

mbox inbox default
HI Timo & all.
We're an mbox environment, inboxes in /var/mail/$USER (I'll include dovecot
-n output at the bottom of this mail). mail_location is set accordingly for
deliver.
I'd assumed that if the /var/mail/$USER file doesn't exist, dovecot would
create it, but we've discovered from experience (and I verified it in
mbox-storage.c) that if access(path, R_OK|W_OK)
