CRAM-MD5 auth broken with postgresql passdb?
I'm currently experiencing a problem which has already been described
by Jonathan in http://www.dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2006-August/015501.html
If I use CRAM-MD5 auth with passwd-file as a backend (Thunderbird
client) everything works fine (MD5-hashes have been shortened for
readability):
dovecot: auth(default): password(bob at foo.bar,10.0.0.123): Credentials:

Using pgsql with 'cram-md5 auth' and 'hmac-md5 scheme'
Hello,
I want to use PostgreSQL to store my Dovecot users. I setup a very
basic configuration, following word for word this page
http://wiki.dovecot.org/DovecotPostgresql and it works ... almost.
In fact, it works if I use PLAIN password scheme in my database.
However, I would like to store them encrypted.
But, if I replace the password field for my user with {HMAC-MD5}-...

Question about the password field in a postgresql database
Hi List,
When I try to set the default_pass_scheme in dovecot-pgsql.conf to CRYPT,
the dovecot does not recognize my crypted passwords. If I prepend my
encrypted passwords with {CRYPT}, dovecot DOES recognize it. (even when I
set default_pass_scheme to PLAIN).
Is this supposed to work, or am I misinterpreting things here?
Thank you!
Maikel Verheijen.

PHP implementation of dovecotpw passwords
I am looking for PHP functions that implement passwords that much the
dovecotpw implementation.
I downloaded one from PEAR, Crypt_HMAC, but the passwords it
generates look nothing like the dovecotpw passwords, which could be my
fault because I know nothing about the field.
Is there a guide or some library that implements them to match dovecotpw?

Password & Authentication schemes to comply with postfixadmin
Hello,
I am using the latest version of Dovecot on a FreeBSD box.
I am trying to figure out which password scheme to use to comply with
my database backend which is administered by "postfix admin".
Here is an example of the password that can be generated in the
database using the various encryption schemes available in postfix

cram-md5 problem
I just updated to dovecot 1.1.10 from 1.1.2 and now anyone using
cram-md5 can't get authenticated. I am using mysql for passwords
(in plain text) and home directories.
Per some googling I tried to set (in /usr/local/etc/dovecot.conf):
# SQL database
userdb sql {
# Path for SQL configuration file, see doc/dovecot-sql.conf for example
args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot-sql.conf

moving from mysql to pgsql
Hello,
I hope that this mailing list is "alive", since I am looking for a
solution for my problem for a long time.
I would like to migrate my existing dovecot installation from mysql to
pgsql. But I have problems with the passwords when using pgsql.
The existing and working mysql-based installation looks like this:

driver = mysql

dovecot NTLM authentication
Hi,
I'm trying to configure DoveCot to allow NTLM authentication. I've
successfully authenticated with Outlook 2003 against Dovecot when the
passdb backend used to store the password is a passwd-file. It doesn't
matter if the passwd-file contains plain or NTLM encrypted passwords.
When I compare the NTLM hash provided by the dovecotpw utility to the
one I have in my SAMBA ldap, it

Two domains - same user names filter
Hi,
I have two LDAP domains, which has some equal users, eg:
abc at domain1.com
abc at domain2.com
I sat up this config:
domain1 users maildirs are stored in /home/vmail/username
domain2 users maildirs are stored in /home/vmail/domain2/username
This works fine except one thing: i cant set up the ldap query to choose
the correct maildir if the user names are equal.
Is it possible to use a

pgsql and default_pass_scheme
Hello list,
I am running Dovecot 1.0-test46 on FreeBSD with PostgreSQL as backend, runs _very_ nice, but i can not set
"default_pass_scheme = CRYPT" (only PLAIN) for PostgreSQL Auth in dovecot-pgsql.conf.
I have a valid entry in pg_hba.conf (and reloaded/restarted):
"local mail mail crypt"
If i replace crypt in pg_hba.conf

Strange behaviour with BLF-CRYPT and SHA*-CRYPT pasword schemas
Greetings,
this is less of a bug report or a help request, but we would like to know if
someone can explain the following:
Environment: Centos 7 with Dovecot 2.3.4-2
default_pass_scheme = BLF-CRYPT
password hash in database : BLF-CRYPT
login = works
default_pass_scheme = SHA512 or SHA256-CRYPT
password hash in database : BLF-CRYPT
login = also works
default_pass_scheme = BLF-CRYPT

setup of dovecot as proxy to dbmail
Can anyone point me in the direction of a detailed how-to for setting up a postfix and dovecot (proxy) node with dbmail?
In particular I'm looking for a how-to which shows dovecot authenticating against the dbmail database directly.
The only example I've found is this one which requires a duplication of the user database.

Fwd: Disconnected (no auth attempts)
Hi,
Firstly, I'd like to apologise if this is really simple or the answers
available easily. I have searched and tried to solve this alone but with
no success.
I'm having an issue with dovecot to which its reporting "Disconnected (no
auth attempts)" in the info log file. From what I understand this is
usually due to SSL not being enabled (however, ssl = required is in the

Password auth scheme question with mysql
Hi, I have a current auth database using mysql with a "password" column
in plain text. The config has "default_pass_scheme = PLAIN" specified
In preparation for a more adaptable system I changed a password entry
from "asdf" to "{PLAIN}asdf", but now auth fails. Works fine if I
change it back to just "asdf". (I don't believe it's a

Using SHA256/512 for SQL based password
I have trying to find how to set the dovecot-sql.conf for using
SHA256/512.? I am going to start clean with the stronger format, not
migrate from the old MD5.? It seems all I need is:
driver = mysql connect = host=/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock dbname=postfix
user=postfix password=$Postfix_Database_Password default_pass_scheme =
SHAxxx-CRYPT # following should all be on one line. password_query =
