skeleton and configs
Hi people, just thought I''d mumble out my thoughts on merb''s apps directory structure and config concepts and see what other people are feeling... the app dir: mvc/application is layed out as expected....maybe without the mailer by default (another discussion) the config dir: I really think that it''s confusing to have such a mixture of ways to configure some

Merb + attachment_fu
Merbists, I saw a note in the attachment_fu source code regarding supporting Merb[1] as well as a post on the Caboose forum[2]. Has anyone gotten Merb working with Rick Olson''s attachment_fu to handle uploads for a Rails app? I''ve hacked together something, but it''s not pretty. Besides fixing the TODO mentioned in the attachment_fu source code to support Merb

wrong startup information in production environment
Hi, I check out the last codes from merb repository. And the startup information for production environment just like that: ====================================================== dev:/var/www/apps/upload_merb/current/log# /etc/init.d/merb_init start Merb started with these options: --- :template_ext: :html: :herb :js: :jerb :xml: :xerb :config: dist/conf/upload.conf :drb_server_port:

Non-Erubis Templates
Trunk Issue: Because of the use of ''autoload'', template handlers other than Erubis are not loaded automatically (Haml, XMLBuilder). Either this should be fixed, or the documentation should be updated to instruct people how to use non-Erb template engines. Apparently the solution is to do something like this in merb_init.rb: ::Merb::AbstractController.register_engine

ActiveRecord Sessions
I am considering using merb to process file uploads. For the most part I''m going to keep it lean and mean. I would however like to access my active_record_session from my Rails app. Is this built into merb yet? Or is it OK to just add require ''action_controller/session/ active_record_store'' to merb_init.rb and then create my own session object

respond_to API
I''ll probably do my respond_to API rewrite, as discussed here: http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/merb-devel/2007-September/000275.html sometime this week, unless someone has come up with a better API. I''ll also work in http://merb.devjavu.com/ticket/227 at the same time. Any serious objections?

Merb Init Problems
Hi All, I''ve come across the following problem with merb 0.5.3 (ruby 1.8.6 / Mac OS X Leopard). Basically, when I type ''merb'' or ''merb -i'' from within the app''s root, It starts, compiles the routes and then exits. Any ideas??? This is a brand spanking new merb app: josh at JDS-MacBook:~/Projects/schmerb$ merb Merb started with these

merb_has_flash 0.0.1 - Rails-style flash
I ripped the flash stuff from merb and stuck it in a plugin, for folks who want a Rails-style flash. It''s on Rubyforge: http://rubyforge.org/projects/merb-plugins/ And will maybe have a little homepage: http://merb-plugins.rubyforge.org/merb_has_flash/ Try it out, please send bug reports to me via email for now.

Trying to use ActiveRecord STI but fails
Hi all, I''m wondering about my sanity here. There''s probably something simple I overlooked. First off, I have close to zero experience with Merb. 1. I configured use_orm :activerecord in config/dependencies.rb; 2. I have a file named app/models/measurement.rb which looks like this: class Measurement < Observation end 3. I have another file named

observers
Just discovered something, thought I''d share in case anyone else was trying to use active record observers. In rails you define your observers in the environment.rb and it instantiates them somewhere during startup. To use that in merb you have to define the observers and then also instantiate them. Add something like this to the end of the merb_init.rb file.

Default 500 Error Page in Production
Currently, Merb just shows a string on error: "500 Internal Server Error" I''ve added this to my merb_init.rb: if MERB_ENV == ''production'' module Merb def self.html_exception(e) File.read(DIST_ROOT + "/public/500.html") end end end http://nubyonrails.com/500.html Potentially a plugin could be written to log this to the database.

what''s the view format in trunk?
dumb question but what''s the view format in trunk? I have a simple router: Merb::Router.prepare do |r| # default route, usually you don''t want to change this r.default_routes # change this for your home page to be avaiable at / r.add ''/'', :controller => ''upload'', :action =>''new'' end I have a simple controller

Specifying load path...
All, How can I specify a load path in merb ? I have some classes in a lib directory that needs to be in the load path. Not sure how to accomplish that with merb.... [PATCH] merb-rakefile-more-dist-byebye.diff
In rev 410, "rake db:migrate" doesn''t run because the Rake tasks are still looking for dist/ This patch removes all the references to dist/ that I could find. Ez, consider this a full copyright transfer from me to you on this and future patches; I''ll sign something official if you need it. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was

Transfer-encoding: gzip
Hello! What is the simplest way to make merb respond to the client sending Accept-Encoding: gzip? Just checking if it exists, otherwise I''ll implement it myself. Regards, Magnus

Merb, Mongrel+Erb
Hey there folks- I''m happy to announce the first useable release of my new pocket- framework Merb. Merb is a mongrel handler with built in controller and view templating with erb. It has a nice routing system similar to rails but much simpler. It uses some of the code from the camping handler and the rails handler and then some of its own secret sauce to form imho a nice fast

ARSession Woes!
I''m having an issue with ARsessions... I have a rails app AND a merb app both under the same domain... I have redirects working for this to be seamless... however, the session started on merb is different than the session started in the rails app... like so.. http://pastie.caboo.se/private/r1ar42qiaekrqjdt6y Any ideas why? The only difference I see, but dunno where to change this, is

returning(...) ?
The following construct is an ActiveSupport-ism: returning(Foo.new) do |foo| ... end I don''t especially like it, since it''s both more verbose and less efficient than the direct alternative: foo = Foo.new ... foo It doesn''t occur many times in Merb, so does anyone agree with me that it should be removed? I tried doing this (patch attached) and I find

Challenge
The original: http://pastie.textmate.org/private/lqvrlyyvkv2kbugoxtiz6w Send your submissions to me by email or on #merb. I''ll blog it, and pick a winner. The winner does not mean it makes it into Merb, just means I personally like it best. But it might make it into Merb. # Scenario: # You have a simple application that lists all the monkeys at the zoo. # Every monkey has a
