What's best practice for serving multiple formats from a remote icecast server?
We are running an icecast2 server in conjunction with our LPFM radio
station and need a little advice.
We have been serving a single 128k ogg stream from a remote server and
would like to make additional formats available (e.g. mp3, lower
bandwidth, etc.)
I would think this has been done a few thousand times and there would be
a "best practice" but I can't find it.

Maildir, imap and newness of messages
I'm using the standard Dovecot 0.99.14 on Fedora Core 4, with a
Maildir++ mailbox. I've noticed what I think is an oddity in the way
dovecot handles messages:
According to the Maildir specification, a message in Maildir/new is a
truly new message, which has not yet been touched by any reader. From
an IMAP viewpoint, such a message should have the flag RECENT.
However, if a message exists

IMAP issues?
I've probably done something dumb, but a quick search on Google, etc has
turned up nothing I recognized as useful. I just installed dovecot on an
OpenBSD 3.9 box. It is working fine with secure POP3 (after changing the
config file to "mbox_write_locks = fcntl").
I also selected secure IMAP as a protocol, but it is proving to be more
resistant to working. I am trying to connect

I try to use nslcd with samba 4 for get suers and group for AD.

PATCH: Public key authentication defeats passwd age warning.
All,
I tried to sign up for this list a few weeks ago, but I don't think
it worked. After I confirmed my intention to be on the list, I only
got one single message from someone on the list, and that was it.
So, either this is a particularly quiet list, or my subscription
was dropped somehow just after it was made. So, if you could kindly
CC me directly on any responses to this, I sure would

Some questions about Samba and LDAP
Hello,
I have been using Samba for years (login onto the PC, files and
printers sharing) and since recently I have a LDAP server running and
serving authentication to few Unix systems (mail, web, Zope, ssh,
etc.)
Now that I set-up a new server to use with Samba, I would like to
integrate Samba into the existing LDAP.
All the doc I could find so far is about creating a LDAP service from
scratch

SMTP Client authentication to remote Postfix/Dovecot
Hello!
This is probably another basic question and i'm not even sure if it's
something where Dovecot is involved, but i'll give it a shot.
So i've setup Postfix with Dovecot and system-auth on my remote
server. So far it looks like everything is working fine and dandy via
SASL(PLAIN) and TLS.
I'm just not happy about my local SMTP client settings. I'm going to
try to

Which email clients support SMTP/IMAP via STDIN&STDOUT of proxy command?
I would like to be able to use local and remove dovecot to access
maildir *without* running dovecot daemons.

dovecot with Calendar or Contacts?
When I attempted to import my Contacts list into dovecot, my mail
client told me that the IMAP server did not support "Special" folders.
Is there a way to to do the contacts, or sync up Contacts & Calendar from a
database or something else?
I'm using both Thunderbird and Outlook.
Thanks.

I subscribed to this list for about two months before I began posting, so I've
got a buttload of email to sift through ... I'm doing this BEFORE I flood the

But here goes:
I read a reply from one guy to another about recording. The message included

1.0.rc2 released
Final 1.0 release is looking to get closer. There's nothing left in my
TODO list for it, so please report any old and new bugs you see.
This release also makes upgrades from 0.99 more transparent with
automatic renaming of .subscriptions and .customflags files with

ActionMailer/SMTP: Net::SMTPSyntaxError when message body contains only a 'dot'
FYI:
I don''t think this is a very well know. It seems that, on some
operating systems, ActionMailer/SMTP crashes when it sends an email
with only a ''.'' (aka a ''dot'' or a ''period''). Specifically, you get
Net::SMTPSyntaxError (502 Error: command not implemented):

unofficial Survey about your Dovecot server :) to compare with my own server setup...
Hi Borthers/Sisters
Thanks for all the developer(s) and for all the hard work spent on build
this great piece of software! I loved Dovecot since it is really easy to
set up and really fast but I am really new to it (only 2 weeks and
half). Right now, our server configuration is:
Server: Apple Xserve G5 dual
RAM: 4GB
Number of Users: ~ 150 IMAP only users
Authentication: LDAP

Shared namespaces
Hi all,
I'm trying to replace the "Public Folders" functionality in Exchange server. At first I thought it'd be something easily do-able with an IMAP server so I immediately thought of Dovecot. I setup what I though would work and things started to go a little screwy with subscription settings and the like.
I started off by making a public maildir folder (in

Sub-Folder Query
Hi all,
I have a question in regards to folders/sub-folders with dovecot and
Microsoft Outlook 2000.
When creating folders if you do not append a "/" to the end of the folder
name you cannot create sub-folders. Is there any solution/work around so
that users do not have to append a slash on the end of the folder name?
I would like to use dovecot for about a 50-user IMAP server however

Dovecot LDA - Performance/issues versus postfix delivery? Also, installing on OS X?
Can anyone give me an idea of whether or not dovecot-lda can solve the
following issue: We seem to have constantly-corrupting dovecot* files
for people who fit one (or more) of the following categories:
1) 1000+ message inboxes;
2) multiple clients simultaneously checking mail;
3) people receiving a lot of mail, and/or the server receiving and
trying to deliver a single message to all users at

Thunderbird 0.8 - Inbox grayed out and does not update
Hi all,
I cannot get Thunderbird 0.8 to work with my dovecot IMAP server. It
works fine with my work IMAP account - I'm not sure what they are using.
What happens is that folders that I create in Thunderbird or Evolution
can only contain subfolders or messages, not a combination of both.
Folders which contain subfolders and not messages show up in Thunderbird
grayed out. I can expand them

0.99 mail env
Greetings, all
Last night I migrated our mail between two machines... both running dovecot
0.99.xx.
In the process, I wanted to make some small changes, namely that new mail be
delivered to mboxs in /var/mail/%u and IMAP mail stored in Maildirs at ~/.imap ...
I tried using:
default_mail_env = maildir:~/.imap/:INBOX=mbox:/var/mail/%u
But had no luck. Is it only 1.0 that can work with two

Moving to Dovecot
Hi there,
I'm currently running IMAP with Courier and POP3 with Solid-POP3d. I'd
like to migrate IMAP and POP3 to both use Dovecot.
All this works fine in testing, except for the fact that I have two
types of users for legacy reasons.
One type of user has a Maildir-style inbox at ~/Maildir/
The other type has a mbox-style inbox at ~/Mailbox
Is it possible to make Dovecot look for
