Dovecot as LDA with Postfix
I have been attempting to replace Procmail with Dovecot as the LDA for my Postfix mail server, but without success. Below is a truncated output from the /var/log/maillog. XUIDL Migration problems
Hello All, I am new to Dovecot and the Dovecot mailing list. I am trying to migrate an existing Exim + qpopper - mbox (pop3 only) installation over to Exim + Dovecot using mdir (pop3 and imap) And am running into problems with preserving the XUIDL headers. I am running Dovecot 2.0.14 I have used the mb2md.pl script : http://dovecot.org/tools/mb2md.pl from this page

Usernames & Passwords
I thought I had posted this previously, but I cannot seem to find any record of it. I am using Samba in a mixed network (WinXP and FreeBSD 5.4). There is no domain involved. Using the following command, I can access a share on one of the WinXP machines: smbclient //SERVER/SHARE -u NAME%PASSWORD I now find that I can also access the share using an incorrect 'NAME' or 'PASSWORD'

Customizing Sign-Off Message
This is probably a dumb question; however, I have never let a thing like that stop me before. A user can configure Dovecot to give a customized greeting when it is accessed. Is there anyway to customize the message it displays when it terminates the session? -- Gerard Seibert gerard at seibercom.net "Losing my virginity was a career move." Madonna

MySQL Configuration
Dovecot 1.0.rc10 FreeBSD 6.1 This is probably a dumb question; however, I have never let a little thing like that bother me in the past. In the 'dovecot.conf' file there are the follow two sections: # SQL database passdb sql { # Path for SQL configuration file, see doc/dovecot-sql.conf for example args = /usr/local/etc/dovecot-sql.conf } userdb sql { # Path for SQL

Length of share name
I am new at setting up Samba3. I had heard that the name share name is supposed to be limited to 8 characters or less; i.e., [home] or [configs], etc. Is this correct, or can the name be longer? Also, are there any specific characters that are not allowed? I am not planning on using any, but I was just wondering. Ciao! -- Gerard Seibert gerard@seibercom.net A foolish consistency is the

Saving files with wrong permission
I am attempting to save files from MS Word into a directory located on a FreeBSD 5.4 machine running Samba. For some reason, the files are always saved with permission 766 rather than 666, which is what I want them saved as. This is the pertinent part of the smb.conf. file. # Samba config file created using SWAT # Date: 2005/08/21 11:05:15 # Global parameters [global] lanman auth = no log file

Dovecot as LDA
FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE-p8 postfix-current-2.4.20060903,3 dovecot-1.0.r7 I am experiencing a problem with dovecot as an LDA. It will not deliver mail unless the mail directory is chmod'd to 1777. Below is an example of the log file output. The dovecot.log file had over a hundred entries similar to this: deliver(gerard): Error: open(/var/mail/.temp.scorpio.seibercom.net.1123.cd38cd4d82e1368f)

Is qpopper vulnerable?? Re: CERT Advisory CA-97.09 - Vulnerability in IMAP and POP
I''ve got qualcomm''s qpopper2.2, and am not sure if its vulnerable. The advisory mentions pop and imap servers, but only says: version of IMAP (Section B). If your POP server is based on the University of Washington IMAP server code, you should also upgrade to the latest version of IMAP. Until you can take one of these actions, I installed the new imapd about 3

Pop-before-smtp and MySQL?
Hi, I found that dovecot have many nice features. Now I write because I'm tring to setup the dovecot server, I would substitute a qpopper daemon (patched for mysql authentication) The problem I find is to set up the pop-before-smtp using sql (mysq) as written in http://wiki.dovecot.org/moin.cgi/PopBSMTPAndDovecot (Waiting for post_login ;-) I would use the script popbsmtp.sh and not a perl

POP (dot) locks
Hello, just to soothe my paranoia from many years of qpopper usage, which enforces solitary access to a POP mailbox. Only one login per user is possible at the same time and if a session terminates w/o qpopper being properly notified it will remain locked for some time, 30 minutes by default. With dovecot (0.99.10.4) one can login multiple times (using POP, with IMAP of course this comes as

Confused about what MTA, MDA, IMAP/POP server to use
Hello...I'll TRY make this short. This post is not specific to Dovecot...but many subscribers to this list have probably been down this road. (private replies welcome if you want it to go off list) I currently use Sendmail with MailScanner, SpamAssassin, ClamAV, Procmail, and qpopper for POP3 (hash mail dirs for mbox files)on RedHat 9 server. Return (revenge?) of the "pop-lock".
Hello, The users here have been migrated to the new mail system with dovecot 0.99.10.5 (Debian package) on the backends. Storage is maildir, only pop3 access for now. I see very seldom occurrences (compared to the session wide pop lock of qpopper on the old system) like this: --- Jun 16 14:35:52 mb01 pop3(user at gol.com): Timeout while waiting for release of exclusive fcntl() lock for index

Unable to write to Samba Share from WinXP
Samba 3.014a I have three computers networked together. Two are WinXP Pro and one is a FreeBSD 5.4 running Samba. I cam use 'smbclient' to exchange files between the computers. However, when I attempt to use the WinXP machines to send a file to the Samba machine I receive an error message.
