Are host names a secret?
Some time ago I added the ability for IMAP clients to fetch messages' GUIDs using FETCH X-GUID command. Because of a bug it wasn't working in 1.2.0 or 1.2.1, but I've fixed it now. But now I'm starting to wonder: With Maildirs the GUIDs are the maildir base filenames, which contain host names. Is it a bad idea to expose them to users? -------------- next part -------------- A

Postfix LDA vs the Dovecot LDA + other quetions
Guys , 1. What is the benefit of using Dovecot' LDA as compared to postfix's LDA? Will there be better performance? And along the same vein, 2. What is the benefit of using Dovecot's SASL as compared to Cyrus SASL? Is there better performance? 3. Quota Management ( Creating, enforcing, notifying ) - is it done thru dovecot or postfix or are both needed? Regards, mgomez

Configuration of dovecot 2.0.19 to authenticate users via LDAP
I am trying to get dovecot 2.0.19 authenticate users via LDAP (OpenLDAP 2.4.28) and using Wireshark to debug the process. It looks like the basic configuration of dovecot is fine, but it doesn't pull it off to send the right request to the LDAP server. First of all, this is how my LDAP-entries look: # ht dn: dc=ht objectClass: top objectClass: dcObject objectClass:

Sieve/ManageSieve integration into pkgsrc
I'm integrating Sieve (the new one) and ManageSieve into wip/dovecot. Currently, this works as dovecot options because dovecot must be built before sieve can be configured and sieve must be built before managesieve can be configured/built. Now, the question arose what the long-term solution (in pkgsrc) should be. To my understanding, with dovecot 2.0, ManageSieve will no longer need to patch

Two passwords: One for Dovecot IMAP and One for Dovecot SASL? Is it possible?
Greetings, Can Dovecot can handle separate authentication for receiving mail (IMAPS) and sending mail (SMTPS)? In the past, we used Dovecot IMAP for the receiving part and Cyrus SASL for the sending part. This allowed us to use two passwords with mail. Cyrus has grown too old and isn't useful anymore. Can Dovecot give us this functionality: two passwords, one for IMAP

retreiving callid of call from the dial application
Hi, I am making calls from the dial plan using the dial application. Due to technical requirements I need to find out the sip call-id used in the dialog initiated by the dial application. I dont see any straight forward way of doing this so I am looking for answers. There is a sip callid session variable but the problems is that dial is a blocking call and the dialog ends when dial returns. I

IMAP folders' codepages problem ?
Hi! I probably have a problem with the imap folders codepages. I use polish email clients such as MS Outlook and Windows Mail. The clients try to create folders like Wiadomo?ci-?mieci but Dovecot creates Wiadomo&AVs-ci-&AVs-mieci This happens on two different dovecot installations 1: Installation A # 1.2.6: /etc/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.30.9-96.fc11.x86_64 x86_64 Fedora release

Dovecot not surviving OpenLDAP restart
Hi! Running Dovecot 2.2.36 and authenticating against an OpenLDAP 2.4.45 server. Now since some update of dovecot it will not be able to authenticate your logins after a restart of the LDAP service is restarted without a reboot of the dovecot server. Anything new here that I should be aware of? Best Regards Dag

UTF-8 mailbox names in filesystem
Currently mailbox names are stored in IMAP's modified-UTF-7 format in filesystem. I was wondering about changing this in v2.0. The default would still be to use mUTF-7 in filesystem, but just adding :UTF8 or something to mail_location could enable UTF-8. Any thoughts? Could this be dangerous somehow? UTF-8 enables a lot of weird characters, perhaps no one really wants to see them on

feature - VM gain adjust?
I'm toying with adding a feature request to provide some sort of gain setting for voicemail when accessed from "certain" interfaces. Maybe something like voicemail=6.0 (db) within a specific channel section of zapata.conf corresponding to a pstn line. Situation: 1. Someone calls into asterisk and leaves a voicemail. The sound is recorded at some volume well below 0 db, and is

http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/beta/dovecot-1.1.beta2.tar.gz http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/beta/dovecot-1.1.beta2.tar.gz.sig Several bug/crashfixes. deliver now supports -a parameter (see http://wiki.dovecot.org/LDA) which allows Sieve plugin v1.1.2 to use envelope :detail "to" checks. I also did one more API change for mailbox_transaction_commit*(). There's probably something

different login_greeting for pop3 & imap?
Hi, I have a tiny feature request for Dovecot: could it optionally have different login_greetings for pop3 and imap connections? e.g. I want it to say "Dovecot on pop.mycompany.com ready" on pop3 connections and "Dovecot on imap.mycompany.com ready" on imap connections. Would that be possible? TIA, Geert

http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/alpha/dovecot-1.1.alpha6.tar.gz http://dovecot.org/releases/1.1/alpha/dovecot-1.1.alpha6.tar.gz.sig Most importantly doesn't crash anymore if both pop3 and imap aren't used. :) I'm hoping people won't find anything too bad from this release anymore, so I'll release v1.1.beta1 in a week or so. I also finally did some larger API changes and code

Dovecot LDAP using custom field to allow users to connect
Hi all, I'd like to know if it's possible to add a custom field when the authentification is made by users. My boolean custom field will be for example "AllowUser" (false/true). I'm trying to do something like that but it's not working : /user_filter = (&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=%u)(objectClass=myclass)(AllowUser=TRUE))/ This is my dovecot/ldap

MANAGESIEVE patch v7 for dovecot 1.0.3
Hello dovecot users, I have updated the MANAGESIEVE patch to fix a recently reported problem. This is a patch against the latest stable release 1.0.3. It currently won't compile with 1.1 due to significant changes in the master code. Change Log V7 ------------- - Robin Breathe indicated that the regex capability was missing in the server's SIEVE listing. It turns out I forgot to

Dovecot LDAP using custom field to allow users to connect
Hi Michael, Just noticed you are using auth_bind_userdn which we don't. I think you may need to use pass_filter rather than user_filter?? Best Regards Martin On 2017-06-07 10:59, Martin Wheldon wrote: > Hi Michael, > > We do exactly that see example below: > > user_filter = >
