INBOX as mbox, other mailboxes as maildir
All,
I'm trying to teach dovecot to use the mbox format for /var/mail/%u
and maildir for /home/%u/Mail/ but I'm having quite a hard time. This
is Dovecot v1.0.beta3 under OpenBSD 3.9 on sparc64.
I've been fiddling with default_mail_env and also tried separate
namespaces, but all to no avail. Here's some of the things I tried :

Multiple authentication databases and storage locations
Hello Everyone,
I am playing with the $subject matter using 1.0alpha4, and thanks to the
archives, I lifted this one from Alexander Shikoff off and used it in my
setup.

passdb pam {

passdb sql {
args = /usr/local/dovecot/etc/dovecot-mysql.conf

imap - mailbox in an inconsistant state
Can anyone help me with this issue?
The CEO of our company keeps getting IMAP time out errors and "mailbox is in
an inconsistent state" messages. He uses Outlook 2003.
There are errors on the server side. This is what it says:
"Jun 19 08:08:34 burmail imap(ed): Corrupted binary tree file

default_mail_env renaming
I was thinking about renaming default_mail_env to something that is more
understandable. I'll keep it working for backwards compatibility anyway.
How about:
# Location for users' mailboxes. This is the same as the old default_mail_env
# setting. The default is empty, which means that Dovecot tries to find the
# mailboxes automatically. This won't work if the user doesn't have any

"Real" users AND Virtual users
Dear all,
How can I use dovecot for both "real" users and virtual users?
I could configure dovecot for real users, by using these lines
in /etc/dovecot.conf:
default_mail_env = maildir:%h/Maildir
auth default {
passdb pam {
}
userdb passwd {
}
}
To accept virtual users, I used these lines:
default_mail_env = maildir:/usr/local/virtual/%u/
auth default {
passdb sql {

Configuring for virtual users
I haven't tried this yet; however, I would like to know if it would work.
Using Postfix, I am setting up numerous virtual users. These users
obviously do not have an account on the mail server. I have created a
"domain.net" account. Assuming that Postfix is properly set up to
deliver to the specified accounts, which will be held under the
"domain.net" directory, will this

Maildir, procmail, and locks
I'm using procmail as the local delivery agent for Maildir style
mailboxes. I discovered that I was able to send mail to other users but
was unable to send mail to myself. Examples from verbose procmail log:

default_mail_env auto-detect woes for maildir users
Hello--
I am a fairly new dovecot user and have run into a problem.
I am running dovecot 1.0alpha5 (built from source) on a Fedora Core 1 machine.
The system has about 400 users with over 80 IMAP users, and we have
just transitioned from UW-IMAP. Thus all users are currently still mbox
users.
I would like to transition them to maildir users (this was the main point for
me switching servers), and

configuration problem: maildir folders and messages not found
Hi
Perhaps I've been going too far OT in my previous thread or perhaps I
just didn't explain my problem clear enough so forgive me for trying
again.
I have configured fetchmail to fetch my mail from my ISP's POP3-server.
I have set up procmail to filter messages and deliver all non-filtered
messages to the folder ".IN-catchall/" in "$HOME/Maildir"

maildir and /var/spool/mail/$USER
I was told to use dovecot because it was easier than cyrus. I just
upgraded from fc1 to fc3. I am not sure what fc1 used but I think it was
cyrus and it worked perfect out of the box no configurations to do. The
new cyrus-imapd is not so simple so I got dovecot. I see examples saying
to use mbox=~/mail:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u but when I try that I
cannot map mail folders that reside

Maildir
I've spent most of the morning looking through the archives. Great
information, however, I'm still unable to get my issues figured out. I
believe I am missing something quite simple. From what I have read, I
want to use maildir, mainly because it will allow the use of subfolders
for my clients. My clients are running Mail.app (mostly) on 10.3
clients. I'm planning on using imap

mbox and pop3, maildir and imap
Hi,
Been reading a lot of posts about dovecot configuration, but can't really
figure out if what I want is even possible or how to achieve this.
My setup is simple :
One linux machine that collects mail from my provider and sorts them for
me and my wife, where my email is stored in Maildir format in
~myuser/.maildir
and my wife's email is stored in mbox format in

Mixing MBOX and Maildir?
Is it possible to have some folders be mbox and some be maildir format?
Why you might ask? Sometime for diagnostics I have the Exim MTA archive
certain messages in MBOX format and then I want to copy them into an
imao folder to look at them with Thunderbird. When I used MBOX all I had
to do was copy the file into a folder and it worked. So what I'd like to
do is have a folder with a

INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox
Hi,
I was wondering whether anybody has managed to get Dovecot 1.0 to store
INBOX as Maildir and folders as mbox.
I've tried something like
default_mail_env =
mbox:/folders/user/mail:INBOX=maildir:/inboxes/maildir/user:INDEX=/indexes/user
but it doesn't seem to work (treats INBOX as mbox).
I'm hoping to move some INBOXes from mbox on local disk to Maildir on
nicely-mirrored NetApp
