kickstart from cd
Howdy,
Was wondering if anyone on the list has successfully created a
kickstart cd. I get the thing burnt, looks good, I can browse all the
files, but when I actually boot from it I can't get it to admit the
ks.cfg exists. I *have* been successful with kickstart over http;
just can't seem to make it happen from the cd. Pointers appreciated,

Problems with SATA DVD+-RW drive
I just got a Dell Dimension e521 (AMD 64 x2, nVidia MCP51 chipset) and
so far it has been fine. Today I tried to burn some CD-R and DVD-R
disks and have been able to do nothing but make coasters. The drive is
a TSST TS-H653a (Samsung OEM) and does have the current firmware.
Playing back data, audio, and video disks work just fine, but recording
is a different matter.
The drive shows up as

Cdrom on Linux domU PV
I tried to use cdrom in domU linux pv (Linux Mint 11 based on Natty).
With ''/mnt/vm/iso/test.iso,raw,xvdb,ro,cdrom'', Mint sees it as internal disk
(not cdrom) and only administrators can mount it.
I tried also ''/dev/scd0,raw,xvdb,ro,cdrom'' does the same thing.
Is possible use cdrom on linux domU pv full working where also normal user
can mount it without

Virtual CDROM for Unix?
Has anyone implemented a "virtual cdrom" facility as offered
on
windows? That is CD images are cached & compressed on hard
disk and shared across a network. See:
http://www.winmag.com/library/1996/1196/11r24a.htm
I have not found any news of a Unix solution. I would
like to offer one on a Linux server to Windows clients.
It should not be hard to implement with Samba...
Thanks

how to set ''extra'' parameter of xen configuration file?
Hi,all
how to set ''extra'' parameter of xen configuration file?
I found several format in this parameter, such as:
extra = "text ks=nfs:192.168.1.254:/disk1/yum/centos5/ks.xen.centos5.txt" or
extra = "headless ip=dhcp method=nfs:129.158.218.44:/mnt lang=en_US keymap=us ksdevice=eth0"
Is there a specification to show how to edit this parameter, and to

HVM disc image switching
I''m using Xen 3.1.0 on Debian etch, kernel 2.6.18-4-xen-amd64.
One of the guests runs Windows XP. I am trying to install an
application (Autodesk Inventor) that spans two DVDs.
The config file for the domain in question contains:
disk = [ ''phy:/dev/volgrp0/halebopp,ioemu:hda,w'', '',hdc:cdrom,r'' ]
I ran "xm block-list halebopp --long" and

MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix
DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it.
Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then
use TAO. Then it gave up.
So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things.
Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a
cdrecord -v dev=dev/scd0 sample.iso

disable virtual terminals during kickstart installation
Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out where the inittab is for a pxeboot/kickstart
installation so that I can disable virtual terminals that allow for
interactive input such as CTRL+ALT+F2. I've looked in the /etc
directories for the pxeboot initrd as well as the stage2 and minstg2
files. Am I missing something grossly obvious here?

How to simulate minimal ISO install using stage2 image file?
Hello,
I'm working on a project which automates creation of EC2 AMI images.
To do this, you must use a running EC2 instance to mount an image file
in a chroot jail.
My problem is that I want to create an AMI that looks exactly like a
minimal (nothing selected) install from the CentOS ISO image, but the
"stage2" image [1] file is much more "minimal" than that. e.g., it

Problem with menu.c32
I'm trying to use menu.c32 to boot different kickstart files.
The problem I have is regardless of what menu item I select, it always uses
the client.cfg (default entry) even if I select one of the others.
Any ideas.
Thanke,

How to kickstart a guest with Centos 6.6 & Xen 4.4
Hello,
I posted a question over at xenproject.org but it was recommended that I
send out a message here for help.
My post there:
http://www.xenproject.org/help/questions-and-answers/vanilla-pv-centos-guest-via-kickstart-centos-6-6,-xen-4-4.html
The TL;DR is: Everything I've found to kickstart a new vanilla rhel/centos
guest points to specifying a kernel & and initrd- for RHEL/Centos 5.

PXE question
I was wondering, where is the format and options of files like
/usr/share/system-config-netboot/pxelinux.cfg/default from
system-config-netboot-cmd described? There are plenty of PXE tutorials
with examples out there, but nothing that looks like actual
documentation.

Newbie problems with isolinux
Hello everybody
I would like to build a bootable CD from my running SuSE 7.3 Kernel 2.4.10.
The goal is to have a prebuilt system on CD which would install everything
from a compressed image on the same CD, some kind of an emergency or
initial setup CD.
So I startet with an directory called root_tree, placed the isolinux
directory and the binaries there. I copied the initrd from the /boot
